From the mountains to the mountains: Switzerland and FranceWe depart from Sion (LSGS), Switzerland. Sion is one of the most important prehistoric sites in Europe. The Medieval chroniclers report the occurrence of severe flood events, and during the Little Ice Age (1350–1850 AD) the Upper Rhône had certainly a torrential regime as other rivers in the Western Alps. During the second half of the nineteenth century, anthropogenic activities had a crucial impact on the Rhône basin. The river was channelized twice in the periods of 1863–1894 and 1930–1960 during the so-called ‘Corrections of the Rhone’. These activities reduced the length of the river and gave the river the pre…

Kyushu - West Kyushu (literally "Nine Provinces") is the most southern and third largest island of Japan's five main islands. The island is mountainous, and Japan's most active volcano, Mt Aso (5,220 ft), is on Kyushu. FlightPlan (& Pilots Guide) Here The route is 329 miles in length with eight landings. We will want an aircraft capable of cruising at 200Knts or better to compete the flight in time. Because this route has several longish over water legs a faster aircraft might be better. I will fly the TBM930 (FedEx) which is capable of 250+knts cruise. Our tour of eastern Kyushu will include the following: · RJFG - Taneg…

Rogue River Roundabout This week we visit the Rogue River valley in southern Oregon for a low'n'slow tour of the many small private airstrips in the area. We will start and finish at KMFR Rogue Valley International-Medford (the last international flight left in 2003!). The route goes as follows: 0OR5 East Oregon Cattle Co.: an easy warm-up, land either way. 4OR0 Springbrook: sloped, land uphill on 29. OR73 Calvert Peak: hint: it's on top. Land either way, ignore the yellow crosses. Depart by diving down the valley to the southwest to the Rogue River. Hey all, hope things are well with the team... I wanted to see how the teamspeak is holding up, I haven't heard anything so I assume all is well, I haven't even checked on it in months. Sorry I've been quiet lately, just life getting in the way, this pandemic sucks.. I do have FS2020 so maybe one of these weekends if you guys are in FS2020 I'll join you all. I did upgrade my PC earlier this year so I can run FS2020 and all the Flightsims at adequate frame rates, considering I can run COD at 120fps. 😄 Now off to download FSUIPC version 7 and see what to do about Duenna. 😄 To be honest, I didn't think it was still being used. Cheers!!!

Top-Siders (KTEB-KACK. Saturday September 19, 2020) In the last days of summer, we are taking a few well-resourced individuals out to visit to their summer places and yacht clubs around Long Island and Cape Cod. Starting at Teterboro [KTEB], we shall pick up our patrons who will be coming from Manhattan, from the suburbs, and arriving in corporate jets from around the country. After departure, we shall first enjoy Manhattan's skyline while flying down the Hudson toward the Statue of Liberty, and then head east over Brooklyn and suburban Nassau County. After passing over the racetrack at Belmont Park, we come upon the revered Bethpage Black, the truly great publi…

I've just had a look at Hifi's message about the possiblity of AS being available for MFS and it seems like a long wait. In the past, real weather seemed a bit haphazard between us. "I've got 5kt from ~ and I've got 15kt from somewhere else. Not to mention 'use weather from April 23rd 1973' So far MFS looks like a sensible practical alternative. Real weather, as far as I can tell appears to be the same across the whole group, also, it it's too word not allowed we can ver simply swap to something we are all in agreement with. i.e. clear, few clouds...you get the picture. Me and my mate Johnny Walker just thought that up. What do you reckon?

The Outer Banks_KILM-KFFA For Wednesday, September 16, 2020 We shall spend a relaxing afternoon to take a look at the Outer Banks in MSFS. These low-lying barrier islands are a spectacular sight. And nowadays, many of the islands are packed with vacation homes that serve the visitors who flock to the legendary white sand beaches. First, the southern beaches that attract the biggest crowds. We start at Wilmington International [WILM], bend toward the Atlantic to take a look at the more commercial beaches of Wrightsville and Topsail, and then land at the Marine Corps Outlying Field Camp Davis [14NC]. Then back to the shore to see North Topsail Beach and the less devel…

Balkans – Mountains & Seas The Balkans are a geographic area in southeastern Europe which takes its name from the Balkan Mountains that stretch throughout the whole of Bulgaria from the Serbian–Bulgarian border to the Black Sea coast. The Balkan Peninsula is bordered by the Adriatic Sea in the northwest, the Ionian Sea in the southwest, the Aegean Sea in the south. Our flight will follow a zig zag route starting from Dubrovnik (LDDU) on the Adriatic Sea, proceeding southeast to Skopje (LWSK) in North Macedonia, and then turning southwest to the Island of Corfu (LGKR) on the Ionian Sea. Back across the mountains we land at Skithios (LGSK). The last leg takes us …

I make no apologies for this hastily thrown together flight plan. Jeff made me do it. 😪 It starts out from somewhere quite habitable, wanders off to somewhere fairly picturesque thence to a place no-one has heard of (In fact several places that no-one has heard of) finally, God willing, arriving at our destination. Whereupon we ask ourselves, why? Observance of a strict veto of MFS2020 conversation will be adhered to. We can't afford to keep losing pilots! Flight plan will be posted later. I haven't flown it so I don't see why you lot should. 😠 EDIT: The route is under 300 miles and not to many faff centres (AKA Airports) so something like that lovely…

The Northern Isles – On the Edge of the Air. (Scheduled for August 29, 2020) We shall spend a late summer's afternoon enjoying the Orkney and Shetland Islands. These low-lying archipelagos are windswept and largely devoid of trees. Rather than marveling at grand scenery, our emphasis will be flying "on the edge of the air," hopping into and out of the small airports that are scattered around the islands. The combination of modestly-sized runways (many are less than 2,000 feet) and breezy conditions will make for an engaging experience. We begin on Orkney's largest island Mainland at Orkney's main city (10,000) Kirkwall [EGPA]. We depart to the northwest toward the …
