AVSIM's Round the World Race Forum

Every spring AVSIM team members compete in one of the most exciting events in flight simulation; the Around the World Race. This forum is for those who are interested in the annual event, would like to participate, for the team members to stary in touch with each other throughout the year.

    The Flying Cowboys of Central Utah. 38U-KPUC. For Wednesday January 6, 2021 Today we shall fly over the rugged country of Central Utah. This route is inspired by videos of Utah's Flying Cowboys enjoying the area's scenery. (Again, we somehow have obtained permission to fly below 2,000 feet in the National Parks.) We begin with a quick exploration of the Capitol Reef National Park, a north-south parkland that is 60 miles long and 6 miles wide.     We will fly over the southern part of the Chilean Andes - with some visits in Argentina! This a very green flight, I recycled a Sunday flight from last year. A landing was added and the destination changed from Balmaceda to Cochrane! We depart from El Tepual International (SCTE) and head east, passing two volcanoes, the Osorno and the Calbuco before we land at De Bariloche (SASZ), Argentina. From now on we head south and follow valleys as best as we can. Landings are planned at El Bolson (SAVB), Esquel (SAVE), both in Argentina.     Honshu Part III – Tokyo and more! We depart from Gotemba (RJGO), a small airfield at the foot of Mt. Fuji. We navigate through the mountains and land at Atsugi (RJTA). The Air Force Base of Atsugi is the place where US Troops set foot on Japan's main island during WWII. From here we start our sightseeing tour around the Tokyo Metropolitan Area.     Honshu Part II This weeks flight departs from Osaka's Kansai International Airport (RJBB). We head north and overfly the city of Osaka and the Osaka Castle. We see Kyoto and turn east at Lake Biwa to land at Gifu Aero (RJNG), one of the two airports of Nagoya. We depart, stay low and slow and head south to fly over Nagoya Airport and a couple of the points of interest included in MSFS (or the freeware addon).     Appalachian Autumn Starting from Blacksburg Virginia we head west into West Virginia. Staying low we will attempt to follow the New River as it twists and winds into the Allegheny Front.     Honshu Part I We continue our Japan flights with the first flight at Honshu. The departure airport is Ozuk (RJOZ). We make a touch and go at Hofu (RJOF) and head towards Hiroshima. On the way, we pass the famous Itsukushima Shrine and the city of Hiroshima. We land at Hiroshima Intl. Airport (RJOA). We inspect the Tatara Bridge and land at Kasaoka (RJKS).     Nepal - West Our tour of western Nepal begins at Simikot (9751 ft) high above the Karnali river and ends at Bharatpur (679 ft) on the Gandaki river. In between we will follow the deep river valleys, cross numerous high ridges, and land at six remote airstrips (some perched precariously on high ridges). The route proceeds east with stops at Bajura (VNBR), Jumla (VNJL), and Dolpa (VNDP). Then the route crosses the very high ridge (between Marpha and Tukuche) that extends from Dhaulagiri.     Kyushu - Continued Our tour of Kyushu continues on from where we left off at Chisun-Inn-Omura (RFJU). We fly over Nagasaki, past Mt Unzen and Shimabara to Kumamoto. Departing Kumamoto to the northeast we fly over the large caldera of Aso-Kuju National Park to waypoint KAZMA where the route turns to the southeast for a long 68 mile leg over mountainous terrain to Miyazaki on the pacific coast.
