Horizon Air PNW Milk Run Horizon Air was formed in response to the Airline Deregulation Act of 1978. One of the results of this act was that many larger airlines abandoned routes within the Northwest. To fill this gap in the market, entrepreneur Milt Kuolt and a group of venture capitalists founded Horizon in Seattle in September 1981. Horizon brought together 36 enthusiastic employees and a fleet consisting of two leased Fairchild F-27 turboprop aircraft to begin service between Yakima, Pasco, and Seattle. In the early 1980s, Horizon grew rapidly and in 1982, Horizon acquired Air Oregon, which had served the state of Oregon for a number of years. In 1983, Horizon ac…

  2. Le Massif Central: Today we will visit the Massif Central in the southwest of France. It covers an area of about 85.000 square kilometers (33.000 square miles), which corresponds to about 15% of France! The Massif central has an average elevation of about 700 meters (2300 feet), and its highest mountains are within the Monts Drore (Puy des Sancy with about 1885 meters (6200 feet)). We depart from Thalamy (LFCU) and head straight to the highest Peak of the Massif Central, the Puy des Sancy. From here we turn south and fly over the "Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Natural Park", to land at Aurillac (LFLW). Next, we fly around the southern part of th…

The Western Isles (Scheduled for July 11, 2020) Starting with the Isle of Skye, we take a sightseeing flight over the Western Isles, passing over the Outer and Inner Hebrides, to land at Islay where we shall celebrate with a world-famous local beverage. We begin at Plockton [UK10], just on the Scottish mainland. A quick hop over the hills takes us down to Eilean Donan Castle [DONAN] one of the most photographed of Scotland's castles and former home of the Mackenzie and Macrae clans. (As with many other parts of the region, the castle's history is chock full of intrigue, treachery, and bloody battles between the Highland clans as well as with the Norse and the Englis…

This eco-friendly Saturday Flight is 99% recycled from the one done in December 2017. Samoa – South Seas Sojourn We fly to all of the airports in Western Samoa and American Samoa. Starting from Asau (NSAU) in the west we will land at six airports finishing at Fitiuata (FAQ) on the eastern most island of Ta’u. Flightplan & Pilots Guide: Available here. Aircraft: The route is 212 miles, so we should take a plane that cruises with about 140 KIAS. The most common aircraft used in Samoa are the de Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter, the Dornier DO228, and the Brittan Norman BN-2 Islander. These are all good choices but as always you are fre…

The tour takes in the western Alps from Annecy (LFLP) in France to Saanen (LSGK) in Switzerland. We start at the GA field at Annecy, but before heading into the mountains proper there is a little detour into the neigbouring valley past the spa town of Aix-Les-Bains and Chambery. We won't stop at the main airport at Chambery but instead at Challes-Les-Eaux (LFLE), a smaller field used by light GA aircraft and gliders. Now we make our way round the valleys to Albertville, site of the 1992 Winter Olympics. Start a steady climb at Albertville to put you in position for the approach to Courchevel (LFLJ), the altiport of sloped runway fame. On leaving LFLJ our next waypoi…

Along the Great Divide (Part 3) Departing from Eagle County (KEGE) and staying low in the canyon, follow the Colorado River down to Glenwood Springs turning sharply at the Roaring Fork River to our first landing at Glenwood Springs Municipal (KGWS). The route continues up the Roaring Fork River past Carbondale and up to Aspen (KASE). The next stop is a short 26nm hop up to Leadville (KLXV). Finding the right canyon will help getting over the high 14,000 peaks that bar the way to Leadville. Departing to the southwest we fly back over the high peaks to land at Gunnison (KGUC). Setting up a combination of Orbx Australia v2 and OZx in P3Dv4 The basic idea is to use Orbx Australia v2 (AUv2) with its enhanced scenery landscapes and mesh as well as "Neil Hill" renditions of airports. We want to combine this package with the existing OZx airports. The main problem here is that the new more accurate mesh doesn't exactly match the old Holgermesh on which OZx was based. And we need to eliminate some conflicts between AUv2 and OZx. (A few ignorable problems will persist.) Installing Orbx Australia v2 (AUv2). After the installation, be sure to update any payware and freeware Orbx airports (through Orbx Central). Then go to each airport's confi…

Along the Great Divide (Part 1) The Continental Divide of the Americas (also known as the Great Divide is the principal, and largely mountainous, hydrological divide of the Americas. The Continental Divide separates the watersheds that drain into the Pacific Ocean from those river systems that drain into the Atlantic Ocean. Although there are many other hydrological divides in the Americas, the Continental Divide is by far the most prominent of these because it tends to follow a line of high peaks along the main ranges of the Rocky Mountains at a generally much higher elevation than the other hydrological divisions. Part One starts near the Canadian border…

Greetings and salutations from a past participant for Avsim in the FS RTW Race. I've gotten back into flight sim with P3D V4.5 and have been enjoying flying the A2A Bonanza tremendously. I was attempting to fly it around the world, but then ORBX had a sale on TrueEarth UK and after two weeks I am just getting down into the Midlands. Curious what people have been flying and where? I am looking at flying Jeff's Australia root soon.
