Cape Town and Environs This is a sightseeing flight in light aircraft. We aim to enjoy one of the world's most beautiful urban settings. Departing from Cape Town International, the route takes us through the Cape Winelands to the east, then back over Table Mountain to circle over the City. It heads south down the Cape Peninsula to the Cape of Good Hope before returning to Cape Town International. At Cape Town International [FACT], we begin our morning at the FBO for ExecuJet Cape Town (parking Gates 49-51 at the southern end of the main runway) and fly to Fisantekraal [FAFK], a former Air Force Base and now the favorite flight school training airfield in the Cape T…

Starting in Isafjordur (BIIS) we make our way down the west fjords with stops at Thingeyri (BITE), Bildudalur (BIBD) and Patreksfjordur (BIPA). We then have to make our way across the water to the Snæfellsnes peninsula, landing at Rif (BIRF). Next is an excursion up the nearby Snæfellsjökull volcano, made famous by Jules Verne in his Journey to the Centre of the Earth where it is used as the entrance to the passage into the Earth. Following this we go to Stykkisholmur (BIST) before continuing south to the capital Reykjavik (BIRK) where we land at the city centre airport. We'll now go to the much larger international airport at Keflavik (BIKF). Keflavik is well-known f…

I realised that trying to get round the all airports I wanted to cover in one flight would be a bit ambitious, so I've split it into two rather more leisurely plans. The second flight will take us to the Reykjavik/Keflavik area, but this week we start in the small northern coastal town of Siglufjordur (BISI). First we take a trip out to the island of Grimsey (BIGR), which is the only part of Iceland that actually lies inside the Arctic Circle. Then we go back to the mainland with stops at Husavik (BIHU), famous for its whale-watching, and Reykjahlid (BIRL) in the volcanic highlands. Next we go to Iceland's second city, Akureyri (BIAR). I have set up a waypoint at the st…

In 'these difficult times' I thought it would be nice to visit our neighbours/neighbors in PNW to offer our support. We would be taking with us supplies of food, drink and of course toilet rolls. I'm hoping they would reciprocate by letting us have a jar or two of Mountain Dew. Here's the plan: We will split up into two groups and fly a circular route in opposite directions. Why? Why not? Two flight plans are provided, plan A and B. There is also a flight plan for those that can't fly a broomstick without a GTN750! 🙂 At the crossover point which may ot may not coincide with an airstrip (hope so, it'll be interesting) we will collect recyclable stuff. Plast…

The other day Ron had requested a photo of a cockpit of which I thought I had - didn't. Looking thru the 8000+ photos/images again would be a chore.. Then I remembered "Irfanview", the Swiss Army knife of dealing with images. Going through those 8000 images took just 20 minutes. ))) While experimenting a bit with the "slideshow" subset of Irfanview was able to isolate just the flight sim folders and use those. Then it dawned on me, by using certain settings within slideshow I could show all of them in just a short amount of time. So here you have it - 4796 images in a little movie going back to my first year of RTWR ( think FSHost ) and include events from ot…

Hi, this is just a heads up for an upcoming flight in Nepal, mainly around Lukla. The new Aerosoft Lukla - Mount Everest Extreme (available for FSX and P3DV4) includes a number of smaller airfields around the famous airport of Lukla! In a couple of weeks we could have a flight around this interesting area with a number of challenging landings and take-offs. If you don't have this addon installed it's a good time now to do so. A little practise for some of these airfields might be a good idea... Details to follow....

Lukla Warmup in Papua New Guinea We are flying into and around Lukla in the Himalayas this Saturday. Josh suggested that we might "warm up" our Twin Otter skills by revisiting some of our familiar haunts in Papua New Guinea. Nice chance to practice control and handling short vertical airstrips – not to mention practice our aircraft repair skills. Accordingly, here is an event for this coming Wednesday, March 18, 2020. We shall fly from Kokoda [AYKO] to Woitape [WIP]. The route includes the challenging airstrips included in the Orbx Tapini package: Kokoda [AYKO], Asimba [ASB], Yongai [KGH], Kosipe [KSP], Tapini [TAP], Fane [FNE], Ononge [ONB], and Woitape [WIP]. The…
