Hi and Merry Christmas,By using the flight plan feature I am getting consistent accurate and complete depiction now. I need to test this more but right now I am on a flight from CYQB to KHOU and am over the area north of the great lakes and I have never seen it look so good. Yes I am above a warm front with very accurate and complete depiction and overcast leaving CYQB, heavy snows, accurate tops and multiple layers. I always usually use the flight plan feature but what is unusual is that on the flight from KLGA to CYQB I had massive disappearance problems and I used the flight plan. For some reason in the last few days when I test with no FP I have depiction and disappear…

I have come back to Active sky after an extended absence and i now remember why I stopped using AS. In Australia visibility is in METARs is very often reported as 9999 which AS interprets as 10 SM when in fact the true interpretation should be "at least 10SM - in most cases it will be a lot more than this. There is a similar problem with CAVOK. So what this means is that in Australia AS will never report visibility greater that 10SM when the actual visibility will most likely be very different. You can see this when in map mode as you move the mouse pointer from station to station over inland Australia with range set to 300 - every station is reported by AS as having a …

I am over central Texas today using real world weather where it should be totally overcast over the entire state. These "squares" in the cloud deck opened up while I slewed towards them. Once I got over them they totally disappeared in a square fashion revealing the ground below. I notice many times AS uses square cloud sections stitched together as a quilt. Sometimes this looks very bad but most of the time it is not noticeable. I do think we may be on to something here with this quilt technique because the dissapearing textures happened in the quilt square sections. I thought I fixed this but it is not fixed.

Afaik Force to sim time lets ASE use the weather from the day I selected in FSX. (Right...?) Now suppose I've started a flight and decide to fly on another day because I don't like the weather. How can I make ASE also change the weather to that day....? When I have ASE and FSX opened side by side in a window there is NO WAY I can make the weather in FSX change... It's stuck completely to what I started with...(I have to say that after all these years I still don't understand how ASE works... It's overly complicated imho. I wonder if AS2012 is easier to use...?)

Just installed AS2012 last night. First flight went great, weather was downloading graphics improvements where obvious and a real step up. This morning i fired up the pc, launched AS2012 all looked good, I launched FSX, and despite a clear weather shown in AS2012, it was raining in FSX.I attempted to load some custom weather and that's when I noticed, the download confirmation message in AS2012 was popping up almost instantly. Maybe it's faster in 2012, but in ASE it took several seconds. After making a few more attempts I also noticed that I was not getting any banner messages in FSX from AS2012.I've gone through the docs page by page, checked all my settings in AS20…

Hi, I have AS2012 and it worked fine some days. However, a few days ago it started to show the following problem: when I am making a simulation having São Paulo (SBSP) as destination, for example, executing the STAR at FL 240, when I tune the ATIS's frequency, it shows wind direction and temperature completely different from what is showed at Xgauge and at METAR. ATIS says that the wind of 13kts on 290º and temperature -20ºC, while XGauge indicates the correct such as 180º at 9kts and 30ºCAs I descend the flight, temperature and wind goes to the real values showed at Xgauge. Also, when I'm stopped at parking ATIS still shows different wind and 20 degrees more than the ind…

Sorry, if this has been cleared up already but I couldn't find any such information and since I am about to reinstall my computer, I'd appciate some clarification.I am using FS9 with ASE and REX for FS9 as well as FSX with ASE and REX for FSX. Since there is no AS2012 for FS9 at this point, I need to have ASE (with REX) installed AND AS2012 if I decide to buy it. Can that cause any problems considering that ASE can be used for FSX as well? I doubt it but have to check! Also, if I upgrade from ASE to AS2012 will my ASE key still be valid so I can install it to FS9. I have no problem paying the full 39,99 € for a full new license but If I don't have to...

I have AS6.5 installed on my FS9 machine and like it a lot. I also purchased ASA some time ago and am thinking about putting it on the same computer as AS6.5. Is there a problem with having both AS6.5 and Advanced/Evolution on the same machine? Does ASA/ASE install totally separately from the AS6.5? If I don't care for the newer versions, can I uninstall them without interfering with the AS6.5 that is now set up? Thank you.

Hi,I may still be an old-fashioned user of FS9 & ASv6.5, but I wish to request something about ASv6.5 servers. As most of the time the METARs I get are 2-3 hours old, can anything be done to improve it ?Thanks,Sotiris.

Hi can anyone tell me before purchasing how much disk space AS2012 actually uses?I'm a bit confused to the 25GB required versus the 100GB recommended. what would necessitate 100GB of space for this program? i just purchased an SSD and then realized how big the hard drive requirements were for this. why is the program so big? even rex with it's numerous texture sets doesn't come in nearly as large?

Hi,I'll join in on the whining. I too am having a lack of cloud cover and I think this is problem. First off today I flew from KLGA to CYQB and for those who looked at the satellite photo it was stormin norman. All the metars along my route of flight were reporting multiple layers and overcast. Anyway, so my flight was mostly clear, especially right below me and w/n 40nm of my route. There was some cirrus and a small area of some believable and accurate depiction below but that was it. I have noticed this every time now and especially since upgrading to 2012. Often times in testing I will go to an airport with overcast and slew upward and as I get higher a large hole alwa…

Anyone else using AS2012 in a network config and having a problem with using FSUIPC 4.754 (i.e. AS2012 will not connect with FSX)? The moment I switch back to 4.751 and start FSX, AS2012 will "immediately" connect...Thanks,Rob O.Edit: btw it appears the fsuipc logs "identical"

Hi, I just bought ASE to go along with REX for FSX. I am a long time user of AS6.5 for fs9. I have just installed FSX on my new computer. I am having a long time issue that I used to have with fs9 but that which as6.5 fixed for me, but it exists now in FSX. This is a 2fold problem. The first issue is that when I reduce visibility in ASE, the visibility reduces as far as ground textures go but I can see all the way to the horizon, or see the ugly sharp horizon. It does not matter how low I turn it, I can still see the horizon, very ugly. I was able to get the most incredible realistic haze layer depicted in fs9 no matter what the time of day. I was also able to blend the l…

Hello folks out there , i just want to say that i have reloaded and updated , reloaded the sim , two times in fact.i made sure all files are in the right place , on both machines .i guess the bottom line is this i deal with this update everytime, i have done everything and im tired of messing around with your product, it is not user freindly.i have owned your product for several years and i mostly use the default weather engine , i have only had your software working twice since i have owned it.all i want to do is get that ridiculous SP1 crap out of the way.i went to your site and it was no help , other than what is obvious and that is to reload everything.which i did twi…

I'm suffering from single digit frame rate when in overcast conditions. There's a stratus layer above me, and when it's in view, my FPS are dropping to <8FPS. Any tips on what it is I have screwed up are welcome.I have a max of 5 layers active. 4096 textures installed.

It says in the users guide (pg 16) that there are three activity indicators, synthesis, depiction, and download. It also says that depiction is the one that actually sends the info to FSX and that it should be almost always on. I have done four flights with AS2012 so far, two of which were over five hours long, and I have never seen depiction illuminated, iv seen the other two but not depiction. How do I fix this?

hello hifi team, great job on AS 2012! i am enjoying it much better then ASE :) flying with DWC is a pleasure now with all weather settings in FSUIPC off. if there is only 1 aspect of the software that i hope will see some improvement, it is regarding the depiction of an overcast cloud layer. with the cloud coverage density in my fsx settings set to full right, i can still see some "holes" in an overcast cloud layer when i fly above it, as seen in the image below. also, when i fly above fog, i can see the ground clearly.. is this a fsx limitation?

With Snapshots (and particularly AS2012 AutoGenerated snapshots), Are the current Graphics Resolution settings used during the creation of the snapshots but then not when you select/install a snapshot? Basically, if I change my graphics settings (say to lower or higher resolution and/or DXT5/32 bit quality) do I need to regenerate previously AS created snapshots? Also, with AutoGenerated sets, is there any relationship to the defined set of themes, or does it randomly generate across all of the texture types and variations? Thanks,Jason

I think AS2012 is graphically excellent and I hate to moan about such a good product but it has given me, today, a disappointing depiction of the weather in my area.I am about 10 miles from Coventry airport UK, EGBE where all day today we have had total cloud cover, which I would say is technically "broken" but most people would refer to as "overcast". The wind direction & speed (265 @ 7kts) are probably correct but the cloud coverage, reported as "scattered", is definitely not.I have FSX set for maximum cloud coverage. It tends to spoil the effect of realism when I look out the window and see the real sky, all grey and then look at the virtual depiction and see clumps…

I have changed the cloud quality from 32bit to DXT so I could compare the performance of each. However with the 32bit textures installed the filesize is around 5mb for the cirrus clouds but after installing the DXT it is still the same filesize. Viewing the properties of the supposed DXT texture file informs that it is 32bit.Is this correct or is there a problem with selecting DXT textures?ThanksEDITJust checked via DXTBmp and it informs me the files are 32bit !?!EDITThe cumulous01.bmp is displaying as DXT5 16 bit. Am I correct then that this is the only cloud texture file that is changed to DXT? The cirrus textures remain as 32bit?I looked in the manual and it mentions th…
