Hi all,Sorry if this question has been asked/answered before, but having read through lots of previous posts , I have been unable to find an answer to my question....I have Active sky 6.5, and use FS9I have had excellent results with active sky regarding real life weather, and as I live in Glasgow, currently have EGPF (Glasgow) set up as my default weather station.I am currently close to completing my PPL course, and am delighted to say that the weather in my sim frequently mirrors very closely what I see out of my window! My question however refers to the active sky graphics part of the progamme. Is this a 'stand alone' part of Active sky, or can it only be used when activ…

  3. I use AS2012 in a network configuration with FSX / Win7.FSX always has about 36 FPS, so also in DWC mode. Yesterday I tried the Standard Mode and there was something strange: the FSX showed stable 36 FPS to me, but the whole animation system of the FSX stuttered in 1s-intervalls. I've seen this never before, it was no performance issue. Switching back to DWC mode, it was gone.I was able to reproduce it again and again on different airports - switching over to Standard mode and it was there, switching back to DWC, it was gone. The FSX showed 30-36 FPS over the time in all modes, it seems, the stuttering had nothing to do with FPS.So what could it be? With this behavior the…

Hi everyone,Most of you are aware of our recent adoption of the HiFi Support Center ticketing system as our primary and official support mechanism, but we realize a few were a bit confused. Thanks go out to AVSIM for adjusting our forum name and description to help with things. To reiterate, the Active Sky forum here at AVSIM is now a community resource for discussion of all things Active Sky, with continued participation from HiFi developers and staff, but on an unofficial basis. This change allows us to better support our customers using official channels and ticket system features (i.e. attachments, log collection, product registration, scheduling, follow-up, organizati…

Every time that a thinner cloud layer is reported to be lower than a more thick layer, it seems like the thicker higher layer is surpressed. I have ASE B655 for FS9.For example, now I made a short flight around ESSA and metar reported FEW006 and BKN020 and I don't think I experienced any broken thicker layer at 2000ft. Also in FS if you select 'Weather' from the 'World' drop down menu, while flying, it only says 'Light coluds'.Is this correct? It seems like FS is forgetting the higher broken layer.

I have run ASE since it was released on a two computer set up and I now want to upgrade to 2012 but simconnect has failed with my internet supplier replacing my router with a higher speed combination modem and router. The Traffic AI will not connect. Before upgrading I would like to know if there is something simple required to get me going like opening a port or ports or changing an IP address. Any help will be much appreciated.

  10. Hi there,This has happened multiple times where the software hasn't recognised FSX.First clue is that when AS2012 is already running "fair weather" and even when refreshing the active sky, sometimes, hit and miss

HiI had a problem with ASE not starting up properly and started a new support ticket. During the process I purchased a full version of ASE rather than the upgrade from ASV6.5 via the ASA routingI just want to say thank you to both Joshua and Damian for their very fast response and another full install copy of ASE.The situation was resolved by removing the temporary files in the application folder.I also appreciate the refund on my purchase of the second copy of ASE but as I said in my response to Joshua I would have not had problem with paying again after 5/6 years of real pleasure from Active Sky.Well done chapsJohn

  12. Hello All,Firstly, Wow, this software is amazing. Was a Rex addict, but had to many dramas with weather system. I am a new user and would like to ask a simple question please. Ok, first I purchased ASE full install, a few days later, I then purchased ASky 2012 upgrade. My question is this : Do I still require ASE installed on my system, as I now have Active Sky 2012?I have 2 desktop icons, and one is for ASE, and the other for Active Sky 2012. Are the both required?Your help and support is much appreciated.RegardsSam Craig

Hi all,I'm mainly flying airline ops with AS2012, currently using DWC. I love the accuracy of the experience, but the dramatic and popping changes in weather visuals is distracting. I'd really like to see the weather "coming" if you know what I mean.Is it worth the time to experiment with the other weather modes? Is there a magic bullet setup that I should jump to?Thanks for the help in advance!!!-George

  15. I have searched and read the forums regarding this topic. I am not sure where the actual problem lies. So far I have installed the SDK on the Sever (FSX machine) and Client. I have updated all the way to SP2 as this is what SP I have in FSX.I am sharing these files.Users/xxx/AppData/roaming/microsoft/fsxUsers/xxx/Documents/Microsoft Flight Simulator X Files andThe main FSX folder from the default install location. The files can be viewed, written to and saved from the client. However, ASE gives me a database update error and states that the sharing component is not setup properly. Not sure how that is. Been running ASE with FS9 for 2 years! 16. When I open ASE a message appears informing me to select the User\Appdata\Microsoft\FSX folder as it can not be found. Upon selection of this folder the message "FSX Application Data Location Not Found! You did not select the proper User\Appdata\Microsoft\FSX folder. Please close and restart ASE, selecting the proper path." I run in non-networked mode with V655. Just started doing this within the past week. Reinstalled ASE with no sucess. Please advise.

I have spent a lot of time with this product and I simply can't end up with useful results. At the outset I had big hole in the overcast that followed me across the sky. So I downloaded the SP1 beta and it did correct that particular problem. However I then discovered that with DWC, Voxatc would not know what direction the wind was blowing at my destination and so I consistently ended up landing with significant tailwinds. As far as I can tell, DWC is not workable with ATC. So I have been trying standard mode and smooth cloud transitions mode. With either of those modes I always end up with a stuck wind direction at all altitudes that has no relation to winds reporte…

Hey folks, I am running ASE build 655. Quite often flying around the NZ area I get strange altimeter settings...below 27.99 which is lower than most altimeters read. The altimeter settings bounce around a bit flying around the area. Is this normal?CheersTJ

  19. Hi there!I've got a question regarding winds aloft: During preflight I look at the weather maps to determine the average wind component. I don't like to use ASE to do this, as you would have to enter the whole flightplan, but this would have to be a FSX plan, which I would have to generate first as I only use PMDG plans. I can take the IVAO weather maps as well as the USAF charts for europe, usually they tell me the same story. For the situation right now they predict around 50kts from 270° where I am, but ASE gives me 47° with 16kts. So fuel planning is a bit like gambling..Is there a way to improve this situation except for entering the whole flightplan into ASE?Regards…

Is it still recommended to leave this off with the new Beta SP?Before, having it checked was preventing accurate updates to the clouds in the sim, but I would like to use it for some smooth transitions to different conditions. Without it checked, the different conditions just pop in instantaneously.Anyone been using it since beta SP with good results?

  22. Hi, as a fan of Xplane, I don't fly fsx as much as I'd like, but I'm hearing good stories about Active sky and IF, how they can add an element of turbulence/movement to the feel of flying in FSX.Can anyone tell me which is the better of the 2 for introducing this feel? I'm not interested in any of the other enhancement features, since I already have REX. Honest opinions please! Also, would a dynamic plane like the A2A cub or Spitfire be adversely affected or even better?Tx

  23. I have a new computer with WIN 7 64 Bit. When I try to do a fresh install of Active Sky 6.5 for FS X and FS 9 and it starts to install- .NET Framework v1.1 I get a message that this version is not compatible with something on this computer and to check microsoft for a fix. I have the version 4 of .NET installed. I cancelled the installation.I do not want to create problems with my new computer. Does this mean then that I cannot use ASV 6.5 then on my new rig? That would be a disappointment of course. Thanks

OK, so I've seen a number of people post they have no true overcast (more like 90% broken instead) with AS2012, but I'm trying to figure out what I'm doing wrong here...Leaving KBOS, 3/3/2012, 10A local time, reported 400BKN 700OVC. Seemed alright (the usual 90% broken instead), but on the climbout, around 10K,I get the attached weather depiction. The METAR is reporting 200 overcast, I'm only (30?NM max) from Boston, and the weather system that is generating the low ceilings and rain spreads for miles and miles around. Certainly there should be no ground showing at all with the real world weather in place, and definitely not this much...Any thougts?8GB RAM, i7 975, 1GB Ge…
