Some questions related to coverage and setup of AS2012: 1. If I enter a VFR flightplan from A to B, how far off course can I go and still have weather created around me by AS2012? 2. What settings in AS2012 would be appropriate in remote parts of the world with few Metar stations? Additional stations? Enhanced coverage? Anything else? 3. A nice feature in AS2012 would be for the user to save and load settings for various kinds of flight situations.

Hi everyone, I've been experiencing difficulty in having the active runway(s) for takeoffs and landings used by FSX concord with the runways selected by my ATC program. For example, this morning I attempted to fly from CYOW (Ottawa) to CYYZ (Toronto). Despite the fact that FSX's AI were using RWY 7 for taking off at CYOW, my ATC programs (I have two and tested both) selected different runways. One ATC program selected RWY 25, the opposite end of RWY 7, and the other selected RWY 14. I don't experience this issue all the time but often enough to now seek guidance. Your thoughts would be appreciated. I run AS2012 with FSX Acceleration in a networked environment. …

hi simmers and hifi pros, i am confused using widefs. ase and ge pro. following situation of my configurated pc´s. server : win 7 64 bit and fs 9 client: ASE Ge pro also fs9, cause the client is my old machine ! now my problem: ase is working well on the clinet. when i now start "install ge pro textures", ge tells me, no texture sets are active and instead is installing partly cloudy textures. ( overnight i created a lot of textures ! ). when i start my old fs on the clinet, the partly cloudy textures are set. BUT, how can i tell ge pro, that the depending fs9 is on the server ??? thanx klaus

Hello, since the S-Turn-problems with PMDG-Planes are well known, some questions come to my mind on how FSUIPC works with weather engines such as Active Sky series. For example: to solve the s-turn-issue we are advised to suppress wind turbulence, gusts and variance in FSUIPC. Active Sky also provides a slider where wind turbulence maximum strengh can be set. I have read that AS uses Simconnect and not FSUIPC, so I am a bit confused about how they work together: for example: does deactivating wind turbulence effects in FSUIPC suppress ALL wind turbulence effects in FSX weather or only the ones simulated by FSUIPC? I know that turbulence effects are still there whe…

I own and love AS2012. Exactly what geographical area is covered? I was looking at Orbx New Zealand South Island, and assume it may not be covered by AS2012?

There is a hurricane in Miami and Thrunderstorm over Baltimore but AS 2012 displays benign weather. When I load AS 6.5 and download the weather it is correctly depicted. When I load AS 2012 and click the refresh weather button on in the column of buttons on the left of AS 2012 nothing appears to happens despite that the fact that is says it the weather awas last updated few minutes ago. Is there some simple thing I am missing? I am using SP1 Thanks Greg

I need to register for support so I can get a little assistance setting up ASE on a network. I cannot create an account because I do not know my ASE key and order number. My ASE installation was upgraded from ASA and I believe Jim provided me with the files back in 2010. Or, maybe he game me a download link. Either way, I don't have the purchase information for ASE, only ASA. I sent this info to HiFi and this was the response. "Your ticket has not been accepted into the system. You are required to create an account before you can create any tickets via email. Please register at the following URL: http://support.hifitechinc.com Once registered, you will be able to…

I have been using ASE now for a few months with about a 50/50 success rate. What I mean by 50/50 is that half the time when I get to my destination I am greeted with AI landing head on to me. The strange part that I dont get at all is that Radar Contact is assigning me the proper runway based on wind and such and I can hear other AI also being directed to the same runway as me but half the time the destination airport has traffic going in both directions. This is my start up sequence that I use: 1- Launch ASE and let it fully load. I enter my flight plan in ASE. 2- Start FSX - Setup aircraft - and after a few min. I refresh AI thru ASE. 3- Launch Radar Contact - af…

I updated to AS2012 a couple of weeks ago, and have had an ongoing problem since. When flying in inclement weather (thunderstorms, low ceilings, rain, etc...) I can look at the AS radar and see full overcast but when looking out the windscreen of the A/C, no clouds nor overcast. Everything is clear except an occasional cumulus popping up once in a while. I have set FSX weather per the suggestions in the AS manual and have tried several different settings in AS2012 without solving this. Can anyone offer any advice on what to set? I didn't have this problem with ASE. Thanks.

Hi, Been a while since I dropped in here and I apologise for that. Some questions you might be able to help with. I'm currently using ActiveSky 6.5, build 552 which as far as I am aware, is the last build of this version of AS before the newer versions for FSX came out. I have heard a whisper that version 6.5 of AS now has issues when getting the weather downloads from HiFiSim's servers. To be honest, I don't seem to have that much trouble downloading and subsequently displaying weather, but in certain areas of the world where I fly, the high level temps do appear "warmer" than perhaps they should be. The other issue I have is getting weather for places…

Hi there, I thought with the release of SP1 this bug (?) which comes from ol' ASX days will be fixed somehow. However, it's still there and annoying, tbh. I'm really sorry if I'm mistaken considering it to be a bug (I already feel smbd shouting at me: "RTFM!!!") But... Whenever I import any customized (eg: user waypoints) FSX flighplan into AS2012 and hit "Process", the only data I can view under "Flightplan" page are the names / IDs of departure and arrival airports - no en-route way-points actually contained in .PLN file are visible making it impossible to get the winds-aloft data for these "missing" waypoints. Here is the contents of my recent FP for NZRC (Ryan…

My problem with ASE is that the real weather never is like I want it to be. So I tried to figure out historic days that have the weather I like but I am having a hard time finding weather that I like... Also loading new historic weather takes quite some time and often I don't see any difference in FSX. I know I can edit weather or (probably) create my own (?) but would that be any better then simply editing weather in FSX itself...? I would have loved it if ASE had come with a set of presets, just like FSX weather themes but then better. How do you setup specific weather if you want it? Or do you simply accept the weather real life is giving you? (I can never us…

Hello there, It's my first time with AS2012 although I have an experience with previous HIFI releases, quite recently - ASE. I fly mainly VFR and would like to request "AS2012 vets" to post here their recommended settings for AS2012 to use for VFR. Is it possible?

I am about to purchase Active Sky 2012 and I will setup in a network environment. Both the Client and Server PC's are Win 7 64-bit OS's. The 3 folders called out in the Manual on page 88 have been setup to be shared on the server. On the server, I have FSX installed on the F: partition, and the OS installed on the C: partition. My questions is, do I need to map to those two partitions (Server C: and F:) on the Client PC so AS2012 can "communicate" weather information to the server? Bill Clark

My issue is the altimeter keeps changing every few seconds. I cannot maintain level flight because of this. How do I stop this. I'm using the latest build 659. I have FEX installed. I can't find anything in the forums relating to this. I have a registered copy of FSUIPC I fly mainly in NZ with FTX NZSI and NZNI installed. I've had to disable all NZ weather stations below 50 deg latitude to stop the stupid program from reporting snow in the summer. At least I fixed that issue myself. But this ever changing altimiter is making my experience of purchasing ASE regrettable. To clarify, when I mean I cannot maintain level flight I mean under manual contro…

Has the issue of transatlantic winds in AS2012 been raised? I did a search but couldn't find anything. In brief, last night I was doing flight planning for KBOS-EGLL. The route included LAT/LON values for the NAT (52/50 53/40 54/30, etc.). So the route I imported to AS2012 was: LBSTA ALLEX N107B DOTTY CRONO 52/50 53/40 54/30 53/20 MALOT GISTI SLANY UL9 STU UP2 OKESI Y3 BEDEK When I checked winds at cruise-level (350-370) on the NAT(Y), AS2012 was reporting values only from the high single digits to the low teens. Meanwhile, the same route imported to REX-Essential reported winds at cruise-level on the NAT from the high 40's to mid 80's, which seems a lot more …

I did a followup video, the AS clouds look so real! And the weather, very good. My n00b question - what's the best way to select a weather station profile in say, the US , a nice big thunderstorm, to another location like, Melbourne? I tried copying the METAR to the edit weather screen, it only seemed to work intermittently. I tried selecting the global Option in the weather radius section, same thing. A fat red button like 'apply this weather globally and fly' would be nice.

Hi: I've being using ActiveSkyX several years now and quite pleased with its performance. However, I did notice something quite strange last night with an upcoming Hurricane entering the East Cost of Yucatan' peninsula in Mexico (Ernesto Hurricane). The decoded wx presented by ActiveSkyX, was terribly wrong. I am just wondering if I have missed a patch or something several months back. The other noticeable thing is I have set up ASX to collect data every 5 min. The METAR presented seems to be quite late. A 45 minutes delay. So I am wondering if something else I am missing somewhere. On the attached JPG you can see the problem: In addition to that, it…
