Wow! Just took my first long distance flight in a 737 using Active Sky tonight. Cool weather!! Went from Quebec City to Halifax, Canada. Unfortunately I didn't get a single weather change all the way to Saint John's (about 3/4 the way). It would have helped though, had I closed the Wx Briefing screen :-lol!!! THEN I got updates!!Anyway, have a look at the cirrus underneath from FL330! Really, really nice. Then the stratus undercast below as I was descending through 8000 feet. Finally, a pic of Halifax Airport addon with the clouds overhead. I used FS Skyworld with the latest update and the Smooth Cumulus and High Level Set 1 installed. I'm really impressed!http…

Only used wxRE twice, but I really like this program. 1)Don't really understand the downloads for offline flying. If I hit auto download, does that load the current wx for the ICAO's I loaded? Do I remane the file, ie KORD-KJFK ? Then, can I fly that route later with the wx that was downloaded? Will that file work with the same wx if I file ie MKC-DEN? 2) When finished, I click the "QUIT" button and nothing happens. So I click it again, and nothing, so I click the "x" and nothing happens. A minute or so later, it closes. Is that normal?Looking forward to the next addtions. louross.

Have been using FSMeteo for several years now.Recently purchased ActiveSky wxRE. While it's a good product, it not substantially better than FSMeteo. One feature that I really miss is an interpretation of the downloaded weather in "layman's" terms....not having to be some certified meteologist.....I'm amused that so many claim that this program makes clouds look "better"! I haven't seen it here.Happy, but not elated (maybe with the enhancements coming?)Just my opiniongwillmot

DamianHave just tried wxRE and it's superb. Perhaps too good - my UK VFR flying has been grounded by the weather - not only in RW, but now in FS2002!!A few thoughts which might already be on your radar, or might be useful for updates:1. Could there be an option to automatically run wxRE when FS2002 is started? (ie it edits FSUIPC.INI to add a "run" statement - eg Runif1=READY,CLOSE,C:program filesactiveskywrxwxre.exe)2. When either a TAF or METAR that's downloaded is out of date, might it be useful to "grey" the data on the main interface so it's obvious that it's out of date?3. Can the "tooltips" text (ie field prompts) be extended and provided for every field? A lot o…

I spent a lot of time with it today and I am just amazed! Flight simming almost can't get anymore real. For a neat trip-fly from San Diego to Catalina island today. I am revved up because I may be making that trip next week for real-and the weather out there today (12/21) is more than interesting.Coming into the island in a low overcast and fog and seeing the runway on the top of the island suddenly appear in rain was just a great experience-and the subtleness of the weather changes for the whole trip were terrific.http://members.telocity.com/~geof43/Geofdog2.jpg

Hi Damian and others,As I stated in my previous thread regarding this matter, I intended to get to the bottom of this problem. It took a while, but what follows is a copy of the thread I just posted on the WidevieW support forum. Damian - I'll continue testing for a couple more days, and if indeed the problem is solved I'll let you know so that you can include a line in your wonderful documentation.Happy Holidays everyone!Approximately one week ago I switched my weather generation system to ActiveSky wxRE. No sooner did I do this than I started encountering the dreaded "out of memory" problem. I spent several days reading through old threads here so that I could figure ou…

The new version of FSUIPC, version 2.95, has an additional option on the Visibility tab for "Rainy" conditions. Currently this is set by default at 1,000 ft.What is the proper setting to ensure that ActiveSky wxRE functions optimally?

Hi DamianYour weather program has vastly exceeded what I thought I would get.Epecially concerning offline use, it really is download and go.The cloud transitions, wake turbulance.. realistic weather.. makes the default weather look pretty sad.My questions is today I downloaded 13Z offline file then loaded FS at 18.00 system time, I took a small flight from Glasgow(EGPF) to Edinburgh(egph). The weather onroute was great nice clouds layers, very sublte cloud transitions nice cross wind for landing.I repeated this flight 3 hours later, obvously the weather had changed. Can I repeat the weather of the first flight regardless of system time, Is it a case of resetting my sy…

Damian, first off great program, am really glad I made the invesment.Only thing iv'e found thats bugged me is I took off from Schiphol earlier in a thick overcast, almost zero vis. This was with me all the way up to about 27000ft, and then it totally disappeared. I could see everything around and below me. Is that normal. ?http://freespace.virgin.net/philip.jeff/BAVBanner.gif

Hi,I'm still experiencing sudden weather transitionsI was wondering if it wouldn't be better then to set a time update interval (like FSMeteo,5 minutes e.g.) instead of updating the weather the whole time everytime I come near a new stationmy weather will be just a little bit more outdated, but won't I have smoother transitions,or is it supposed to have smooth transitions even with the "updating for every new station"-option checked?I have all my FSUIPC settings as suggested in the manual

I got this error message, with text "subscript out of range", in ActiveSky WXre. I had just installed the latest AIRAC cycle in FSNavigator. Good thing I had copied my FSNav bin file, just in case something went awry. When a reverted back to the old FSNav bin file, ActiveSky ran just fine with no runtime error. I'd like to upgrade my AIRAC cycles, so any advice on this problem and why it would affect ActiveSky is appreciated.

First of all, I LOVE this program! However, let me explain what happened to me last night while on approach to TNCM. I was in heavy rain/fog/low clouds and about 5 miles from the threshold when suddenly, the rain ended, the clouds parted, and I was in the clear!! After landing and taxiing to the gate, the nasty weather misteriously re-appeared. Should I attribute this to passing rain squalls and be done with it or is there a way to stop the wx from changing so abruptly, especially on short final? I have the Force Destination set but it doesn't seem to work that well with the Dynamic Wx active. I like the TAF feature to much to disable it so I'm hoping there's another way.…

Just getting to grips with wxRE - a suggestion for the update. Although wxRE puts wx updates on the screen users cannot get wxRE's weather on the default ATIS either at start of flight or after updates. Similarly air temperatures as set by wxRE are shown unamended on the cockpit's instruments. It would be good to have these small features running hand-in-hand with wxRE. Damian - is it possible?gaftp

Something weird just happened... Looked up some zero visiblity weather found it at CYSB went there and it was indeed zero vis. However the weather refreshed as I was still really getting in and it became partly cloudy with unlimited visibility even though the metar clearly said 0SMAny ideas?thanks.

Hi Damian (and others),Although I read the very nicely written manual for wxRE, I'm left puzzled on one point. I normally fly the bush in Alaska using VFR. This usually requires daytime flights for me (not enough carrots I guess), so I DO NOT use system time for my downloads. But when entering the UTC time for my downloads, do I stick with my pacific time zone, which is -8 hours, or do I use the Alaska time zone, which is -9 hours. I know this shows my ignorance about how the weather downloads work, but such is life :-hmmm

I know that the ActiveSky guys are improving on this great program. Here's a suggestion, possibly already hinted at. With RC taking up Advdisplay, I've read that possibly Flightwatch will be voice. I'm also suggesting that there be the "commercials" as I call them, notifying pilots of convective sigmets for certain areas of the country, telling them they're available on HIWAS-Flightservice. I call these commercials, because it always seems like when there's a lull in comms over center freqs., the controllers will fill up this time giving the little convective sigmet notices. This would add immeasurably in the "realism" department, especially if they were tied in with…

Hi all,I wanted to ask a favor since some of you are very talented screenshot takers! I was hoping to get some screenshots by the users of ActiveSky wxRE that highlight the strong points of the software. The screenshots can be of the ASwxRE screens or in-flight screenshots from the sim. In-flight screenshots should be using DEFAULT clouds only with default aircraft and scenery to prevent violation of copyright for commercial purposes. The best screenshots will be selected for incorporation in our website and marketing media, and you will be credited with your name (or alias if you prefer) printed right in the image. You can submit your screenshots by mailing them (in…

Hello again Damian,Now that I've had the opportunity to take a few flights, I am now convinced that there are a couple of bugs with wxRE, at least one of which appears to be specific to the use of WidevieW. First of all, I will readily admit that as a WidevieW user, I'm clearly in the minority, and I understand that you will have to devote most of your time and energy to clearing up problems that effect the masses. But if you can figure out how to resolve these two issues, well that would be great.1) About 30 minutes into a flight, FS2002 on my two client computers locks up. This is not a hard lock up as I can terminate the program with the task manager. When I do so, I r…

First of all, let me say that overall I love this product, especially the weather planning feature.I was trying to use a custom METAR to simulate fog with 1/2 mi visibility. On the ground everything looked great, but then I used the slew mode to raise the aircraft above the fog layer. As soon as I got above the layer, I could see all the way to the ground as if the fog was only a slight haze. (My FSUIPC settings are as described in the manual, but it doesn't seem as if the reduced visibility option is working.) Do you have any idea why I can see the ground throught the fog and how to correct it? Thanks.Bill Huntsman
