Hi all, my first post here.OK, I downloaded ActiveSky 1.5 to give it try so I can make a decision to buy it or not. Almost everything is working great so far but there is a problem when I start a flight in SVMC (Maracaibo, Venezuela). Each time I try to get the SVMC's METAR this error message appears in the ActiveSky's Metar screen:PARSEERROR 000000Z 00000KT SCT020 BKN050 5SM 15/10 A2992and when I come back to FS2002 there is a big ugly scary sound and then no engine sound, I have to change views and come back to cockpit view to hear the engine's sound again. So far only happened in SVMC, I don't know why. SVMC is the second largest airport in Venezuela and is a METAR stat…

I have a few questions about winds aloft reporting stations.1) Is there a logical order to the list of stations printed in the weather briefing or are they simply in the order they were received?2) How do I determine the closest winds-aloft reporting station for my flight, particularly enroute? I'm hoping to avoid going through 4 pages of listings one at a time. Is there a map showing coverage or some other more efficient way to do this? Thanks. This is a great program and it has forced me to pay more attention to the weather than I did before, especially to watch out for icing conditions.Bill Huntsman

I read thru the manual about there being potential problems when runing ActiveSkywxRE and FsSkyWorld Random sky selection, however, I have successfully use these options together ever since ActiveSkywxRE was released and have never seen any problems at all....The weather outside was just as it was in real life..Living here in Boise Idaho, one may expect to see constant weather changes in a giving day..All I can say is that ActiveskywxRE has made the simulation even better when choosing the random selection from FsSkyWorld...The rain, clouds, wind, and snow are much more realistic and I am very pleasedNow, if there was to be some potential problem that I should have experi…

I really want to get hold of a good random weather generator for FS2002. At home I don't have an internet connection so I can't use real weather. I was thinking about buying Wetter2002, which appears quite good, but then saw ActiveSkywxRE which also promises a lot.The weather transitions of ActiveSkywxRE really appeal but can I create random weather for the whole world? I really don't want to have to set the conditions for my flight plan.Which is the best offline weather generator and if it's Wetter2002 will ActiveSkywxRE work with it to create seamless transitions between my randomly generated weather layers. Thanks for the help,Rob

Is there some way to customize the colors that wxre uses for messages within FS2002? I find that the red type on green background makes my eyes vibrate (this is actually a well-known phenomenon). If there is no way to customize this, I would suggest either adding customization in the next update, or using the default FS white on green for messages.Thanks,-tim

Just bought this earlier today and just now got around to trying it - we've been having some real unusual rainy weather here in Tucson over the past few days - the rains has stopped but there's still a real strange low broken cloud layer outside right now - sure enough, I loaded up 767PIC to take a quick flight up to Phoenix and the clouds look just like they do outside right now. This is awesome!Ryan

Damian - it seems the fps drops are due to winds aloft (at least on my system here). I disbaled FD updates for new stations AND winds aloft simulation check boxes and i no longer get the fps drops during an update. The Idle priority and firewall issues made no difference at all.Hope this helpsDave

Hi AllI would like to use FSUIPC vs 2.82 with this program if possible, that particular release made a "fix" to the rudder & yaw damper on PIC 767 that I really like, it gives it much smoother control for things like V1 cuts and crosswinds. What features will be affected if I use this version vs the newer one recommended? Merry Christmas to all

Hi DamianTwo thoughts... 1. I notice in quite a few threads, there is a need to check whether FSUIPC settings are correctly set. Might it be a good idea for a future release of wxRE to ask at install (or upgrade) if the user wants wxRE to automatically edit FSUIPC.INI to the appropriate settings? (Maybe saving the old settings, so they can be reinstated if wxRE is uninstalled?). This might save some user induced "errors"!!2. I saw in a thread recently that a user had got the "update METAR on new station" checked, and I think the conclusion was that it would override smooth transitions. If correct, and as smooth transitions are pretty important to many users, could …

Hi,do you recommend selecting "random turbulence" and "random icing" in FSUIPC or deslecting it?in the recommended FSUIPC setting, they are both selected, but I heard many say they got much more realistic results when deselected

The following metar was in effect for the screen shots that follow:KABQ 231956Z 10021G29KT 10SM FEW050 SCT085 OVC140 02/M07 A2983I slewed the plane up over Albequerque (KABQ)to get the shots. The first shot is at exactly 6000 feet MSL . The ActiveSky visibility reduction for the overcast layer has everything looking good. The second shot is at 6100 feet MSL, only 100 feet higher. Notice the sudden change to a blue cast in the sky. When climbing out it is a sudden change. What causes the blue cast? Visibility reduction still looks about right. The third and final shot is at 16000 feet MSL between the scattered and overcast layers. Notice the pronounced blue band. Its as thoug…

Here in the Great Plains of the upper midwest of the US, we are without snow and winter-like weather. I got bored with the current climate and put a METAR report together that changed everything! If you want to try flying in simulated winter weather, try this:After launching wxRE, disable TAF processing then copy and paste the line below into the top custom field (the single line, the one for the METAR entry) and then press Custom Write. KFUN 232350Z 31014G30KT 3/4SM +BLSN OVC015 M04/M05 A3000Don't forget to turn on your pitot heat and deicing equipment and have a go at an ILS approach under these near-minimum conditions.

I have used ActiveSky now for a week and generally like the program but you have to be patient! It takes time to load. I compared it to WeatherCenter and FS_Meteo. All programs are good, which is best is hard to define as it depends on what you want. ActiveSky models wind and turbulence by far the best. The clouds depend upon your setup but WeatherCenter seems to give better clouds at startup but ActiveSky maintains the weather away from the source and climbing to altitude especially as the TAF problem seems to have been fixed. Play with the settings of FSUIPC but make sure the changes in the directory are set and follow the threads on this forum for good suggestions as t…

When I start my FS in Canada (winter) with ActiveSky wxRE it loads just fine. However, if I change airports to Hawaii or Florida, the winter textures follow my change. This is a bit disconcerning to see snow in Florida and Hawaii. I do press refresh wxRE and I get the appropriate weather, but still there is all that snow on the ground. Changing airports without ActiveSky wxRE works fine. I have tried loading ActiveSky before and after I start my FS and the results are the same. Is this a bug?

For anyone having serious problems with FS2002 stuttering during live METAR updates, I may have the solution, especially if you're running WinXP Pro. I use a seperate firewall program (BlackIce) and discovered that I also had the WinXP built-in Firewall protection enabled. After I disabled the WinXP firewall, the stuttering went away completely! Nothing but smooth transitions now! Hope this helps someone, especially if you're running a seperate Firewall and WinXP.Take care and don't forget the landing gear!

I bought ActiveSky wxRE yesterday. I downloaded and installed FSUIPC 2.95 yesterday. I copied the FSUPIC.INI into my modules folder from the installation directory after installing ActiveSky.I just finished a little joy flight around PHLI (Lihue, HI). I had ActiveSky running in the background in "Online" mode. When I took off from PHLI, all was clear and beautiful. I headed south. When I got close to PHBK, the weather suddenly changed! Suddenly, it was partly cloudy, Then 10 seconds later, it got mostly cloudy. By the time I flew over PHBK, it was completely overcast.PHLI and PHBK are 30 miles apart and each has a weather station. Each one is on an opposite side …

Just want to wish Damian, all his beta testers and everyone here a very happy and safe holiday for those who celebrate Christmas. All the best for the coming week and the new year, and many thanks to Damian and his "gang" for all the hard work they've put into and are continuing to put into wxRE. Great job guys!!Glenn

I just started using Activesky and have found it to be excellent in all types of weather conditions. Especially great are the white fixes for overcast skies, and the ability to print out winds-aloft data. The one thing that would make Activesky my ONLY weather program would be winds aloft data abroad. When flying outside the US, I use ActiveSky to begin with, than switch to FSMETEO for winds enroute, than back to ActiveSky on approach. I know there are various reasons why you could not include international winds-aloft data. If there's anyway to, I would pay even more for it.Sincerely,Phil Geddes
