First off, ActiveSky wxRE is a great program. But I have one problem that perhaps is my fault or for which there is an easy solution.Let's say I load a flight on Fs2002. I then load wxRE. The current weather ( which just happens to be "clear skies") is downloaded and indicates a visibility of 10 SM at the departing airport. However, when playing ATIS on FS2002, it indicates a visibility of 55 miles. Visually, it does look like there is 55 mile visibility also.My question is why the 10 mile visibility, which is correct, is not being loaded into flight simulator as the correct clear skies, tenmp, barometric pressure, wind direction and speed, etc., are.Any ideas? Any set…

Hi allFirst of all I'm very happy with WxRE....Thanks! Worth every penny. Two questions. Since installing WxRE I've noticed the following 2 problems occasionally:1. ATC often seems unable to detect that I'm descending or ascending and cancels my IFR flight plan.2. Sometimes after being told which runway to taxi to, being cleared for takeoff, and starting my takeoff roll I'll find a default aircraft heading staight towards me comming into land...after having been cleared by ATC to do so.I'm not saying that these probs are caused by WxRe, just wondering if anyone has experienced something similar.Gavin

hi,I had my destination locked for LSGG(60 nm) and the locked METAR and ATIS were reporting winds wich would have runway 23 as the active one (and not runway 5) ,yet I was vectored for ILS runway 05 ,which is very strange because sides have ILS,so no side is favoured and like I said winds were coming from ca.250of course I was told to do a circling appraoch to runway 23 by the tower.I found this to be very strange because all indications were pointing that I should have been vectored to runway 23 and destination was locked.Could this have something to do with winds aloft, because it was only center and approach that assigned me runway 05,tower was sending departures to 23,…

Is there anyone having any luck getting consistance weather uptakes with these 2 programs or any?? If so could you post your ini files for both flt max and ASwx. I tried every confirgaration I could think of and no results. One post from AS says to setup one way and manual from flt max says to do it another way. Is there a right way. I've spent a least 10 hrs trying for some result and my only results is frustration. Any help is welcomed.Bill M

I have been bothered by the sudden engine sound changes that I often get during the inital climb out after takeoff ever since I started using ActiveSky. Today, I realized what is causing it: I departed KCLT where the surface temp was -2C. During the climb out, at less that 5000 AGL, I hit a Temperature Inversion, and the OAT jumped to +36C, and the Engine sound changed noticably as a result. I watched as the temperature decreased from +36C to -20 or 30C in big jumps at first (10 deg changes at a time) and then a slow decrease down to about -20 or 30C as I reached 31,000.There is not "Temperature Smoothing" feature in FSUIPC, so this is something that the WX program mu…

Damien,I'm not sure if you have any control over this, but the top of screen adds still shows ActiveSky as "Coming Soon!".With such a great program, I'd hate to see potential buyers waiting for ActiveSky to get here and be mislead by this ad.Just thought I'd let you know,Chris

I ordered ActiveSky through Emetrix on January 10 in the evening and here it is now 12 hours later with still no link to the download nor any responses to my three or four emails to them. I have a confirmed order from them but not a thing in return. PLEASE DO NOT ORDER THROUGH THESE PEOPLE. I will continue to pursue this matter. I note that I saw another complaint about Emetrix on this forum.

Having at last got things to work I have downloaded all the last 24 wx cycle files and thought I would put them in a folder named with yesterdays date. So I MOVED them all into it.Then when I tried to start ActiveSky again up comes that jolly ole error - Error reading wxre.ini file - there may be an offline file/folder incorrectly set. Check your INI file.So I COPIED all those files I had moved into the dated folder and Lo and Behold!! the program started up OK.So it seems, to be able to make a new set of 24z cycle files to-day or and any other day I have to copy over the old ones making it very important to remember which new ones you have downloaded. It just that seeing …

I am using ActiveSky 2002 and I am reasonably happy, with the exception that the sky landscape is only the one provided by FS2002 (am I right?) with its limitations.I understand that the new ActiveSky wxRE software provides a much more varied and complete meteorological environment, and this is all very well, but does it also improve the visual quality of the clouds and other sky elements, or rather it keeps fishing in the same FS2002 weather files?I am being told that in general I should add software such as FSkyAl23 and various associated cloud files to improve the visual quality(if you think I am a bit unknowlegeable on these points, you are right:please explain in clear …

Hi there,I have just bought ActiveSky and I am trying to use it on my computer which does not have an internet connection.I am getting wx files from my friend who also has this program but when I put them in the ActiveSky dir it tells me:Metar Get Request - Problem reading offline wx files. Please check your files or re-download a new set. Also the same sort message with FD Get Request. When I loaded the program it worked OK with the default wx files. It looks to me that I have wasted my money here.Is there any hope please????Richard

A useability request: Please implement a "start" button. Whenever the program starts, it tries to keep going where it left off and I'm locked out of the "options" menu until it does all its initializing thing. Sometimes all I want to do is switch between online and (trying to use) offline modes and it takes forever to get there. I'd like to be able to specify options (e.g. mode) before it starts trying to do stuff.

Hi all,I recently returned from family vacation after the Holidays and apparently there are some users who are upset that I did not give them a response right away during this period. I left on vacation on Christmas Day and returned yesterday, so there was a period of about 7 days where I was not available to answer everyone's questions, comments, or assist with problems. Of course thanks to many helpful users and beta team members, most problems or questions were answered very quickly via the forums. Thanks guys (and gals!).Anyways, to hopefully avoid the kind of dissapointment that was apparent from several users, I wanted to outline the official support policy of Hi…

Hi Damian and a happy new year to you and your family !After several trials, following the method you suggested me, I have'nt been able to create one valid wxd file : the program keeps telling me to try and download valid metar, taf, and wind files. The only wxd file I can use is the default one. What I do is :- go to the NOAA site, then to standard brief, then to METARS click on the cycle file link (I generally select it one or two hours before the actual one) save the document (text file) as something like custmetar03Z.met- go to TAFS find the active cycle and download it, save it as custtaf00Z.taf - use the defwinds02Z.fd as I fly outside the US- save the 3 files in th…

Hello DamianFirst of all I like the program especially the dynamic portion of it.I would like to save specific weather situations, if possible by date in order to use them offline lateron. The problem I have if I keep the present structure of the files, a specific cycle12z will be overwritten next time if I download the next cycle at the same time. However if I rename the files, the program will not accept them.Do you have a solution to this problem ?Thanks and best regardsKurt

Hi Damien,I downloaded ActiveSky a couple of days ago and am very impressed with it. Good work! I have one suggestion/request. I always wanted to see vapour trails in the MS flight sim, so I was really pleased to hear that they would be included in FS2002. However, I've only ever seen them from other traffic when I was over 30000 feet or so, and even then only when the traffic was very near. I'd like to see vapour trails from long distance and regardless of what altitiude I'm at - after all, I can see them from ground level in real life...Would it be possible to enhance vapour trails in a future version/update?Jon

I put this in another post, but I think that, at least the first, is important for the program.1.) I would like the offline files to be prefixed with the date. I like to collect weather situations, such as a big snow storm, or thunderstorm outbreak, etc. It is currently too much work (IMLO)[in my lazy opinion] to edit the .wxd file, and rename the three cycles, when the program could do this easily.2.) I would like a user editable text field to be included in the .wxd file to describe the situation, eg big snow storm or thunderstorm outbreak.3.) If it is possible to set FS time with FSUIPC, i'd like an option to read time and date from the METAR and automatically set…

Hi,will it may be possible to edit the winds aloft by hand in the near future. I just saw this feature on another weather program and found it very interesting. Also a "decode local" windows would be fine like in FSMeteo! There you can see the different winds on different altitudes. So I could choose the best altitude to fly in!Thanks and appreciate your work. Keep upLars

I've read through the forum and just read the downloaded manual. I'm convinced and will purchase ActiveSky when I get home from work. I have one question, though. Will the FS2K2 ATIS give me an accurate run-down of my ActiveSky weather at either the departure or arrival airport, or must I use the Flightwatch Radio feature? Also I believe I am correct in that Flightwatch Radio is text-only. Therefore I assume I must have scrolling messages turned on (I have them disabled in FSUIPC). Thanks!Boyd BarkerSenior Command CaptainBOS Hub ManagerWestWind Airlineshttp://home.houston.rr.com/checklist/DFexperience.jpghttp://home.houston.rr.com/checklist/checklist.htmlMy DF737 Ar…
