I just did a flight from San Francisco Intl to Vancover Intl and it was awesome.I went onto CNN weather and saw that there was some heavy weather around the Vancouver area. Sounds like fun!I took off in my Fokker 100 in clear and pleasant conditions in San Francisco. Up until i got to Oregon all seemed fine. Then some big heavy clouds began to appear in the distance and ActiveRadar showed some heavy precipitation ahead. Not too long after i was being thrown around in very heavy cloud. It looked fantastic. There were several cloud layers and it gave a great impression of those days when there are huge banks of clouds in the sky. It also gave a great impression of height. …

Does Active Radar use any system resources while its miniscreen button is turned "off" and its window minimized? The reason I ask is that I find that I have not been using Active Radar much and am having some framerate issues, so I wonder if it be beneficial (and possible) to disable it.Would this have any impact on framerates? Could it be done simply by removing Active Radar from the Modules folder? Thanks!

Does anyone know if ActiveSky makes any effect with icing in FS2002 please? The reason I ask is I tried to fly in winter conditions where there was a good chance of icing - both carb icing & wing icing, but I could see no diference to normal flying. If the program does model something I would like to know what the effects are.Thanks.Keith

Curiously the winds, temp, and QNH reported by Active Radar doesn't agree with what the AS Navlog is giving as shown on the attached image. Both had just been refreshed. Is there any reason for this or is there some option that needs to be set to make sure they agree? As with another poster on the forum, the ActiveRadar bit also fails to load a flight plan exported from FSBuild 2.2 beta to FS9 which is odd.I can live without the ActiveRadar data so these are not huge problems, but having been a big fan of WC2 it would be nice to see this part of AS work. Overall AS2004 looks very good indeed.

Hello Damian, I seem to have run into a stumbling block trying to D/L any weather no matter if I select CURRENT or ARCHIVE. I have FS2004 on the main computer and AS2004 on the client computer. I have selected the DEFAULT options in AS2004. The Radar display does come up on FS2004 when CNTRL-F12 is selected but there is no weather displayed although the airports and Navaids are. When I try to connect to D/L the weather, using the client, I receive a response from my ISP: "UNABLE TO ESTABLISH CONNECTION". I am not sure what is happening and I think I need some help.PS. Is there a special folder where the Weather files would be saved to after a succ…

I have loaded a flightplan into AS2004 and also into FS, but I cannot load it into the radar. I can select a plan, but then in the tracker I always see a message "no flightplan loaded".How can I fix that problem?

Hi Damian and JimToday I flew from KORD to KLGA with the PMDG 737 as always. When I did a check of the metars for KORD it was reported that the conditions in Chicago were winds at 280/24 gusting to 39. The FAA has a delay posted on their web site due to high winds. AS had winds at 290/10. This was really out of wack. Next when I landed at KLGA, I was expecting from the NWS these conditions: temp 9.4C, pressure 29.98 winds 010 degrees at 12, visiblity of 10 or more, and and clouds, few at 12K. What AS was reporting when I landed was winds of 110/4, rain/snow, ceiling of 3000 feet overcast, pressure of 29.89. The actual conditions in New York from the Weather Channe…

I've purchased AS Re for fs2002. I noticed that the recommended fsuipc version is 2.975. Right now I have 2.972 installed. Will this version cause problems?BTW, I've looked at Dowson's site and didn't see any versions older than the 3.xx ones.

Hi allI'm experiencing a weird problem with AS: After flying for a while, the ASI drops down to read zero, regardless which aircraft I'm using! If I disable AS, and clear all weather, the ASI starts working again. Then when I turn AS on again, it works until the next update (I have refresh set to 10 mins btw), and then it zereos again. Otherwise I'm really happy with AS, I used the "other" weather program for a long time, and am glad I changed to AS, despite this weird problem.I'm stumped at the moment,is this a bug, or have I missed something? I have the registered version from FSUIPC btwBestGrahame EDHL

I read the FAQ and see the explanation, but my general wind direction for my flight (in progress as I type from KPIT to KSLC) are reported as averaging 280 @ 75 knots. This would be a lovely headwind of course ;-)However with route based wind smooting out, they haven't gone above 35 knots and are straight out of the North???Sure, it's helping my GS, but they are no where near where they should be???Is there a fix for this other than dealing with the massive wind shifts with wind smoothing off?

I'm not sure if this is really an AS2004 issue or not... but it's only started recently and I just bought AS2004. :)First off, here's my setup. Athlon 2100+, 512 MB, 40 GB, GF4 Ti 128, Win98 SE.Last week, after stalling long enough :) I got AS2004 (previously I've always used AS wxRE v1.91). I also licensed FSUIPC and WideFS at the same time. I've got a laptop that I network with my desktop, so I put WideFS and AS2004 on there. Not sure if this matters, but there ya go... :) FWIW, I don't use ActiveRadar so I didn't bother with all the extra setup to get it working across WideFS.Now, I know this particular question has been raised before but so far no one has off…

I've read a couple of threads about wake turbulence and I have one question on something I'm not 100% clear about.Do I need to clear the atc_id field from the aircraft config for my AI aircraft that have a "N" in the atc_id in order to get the larger wake turbulence effect? I have several aircraft installed from AI Aardvark, FSPainter and PAI that have an "N" in the atc_id field (mainly N123XX in the PAI planes as a placeholder). I'm thinking the answer is "yes" but want to check before I waste my time on something that isn't necessary.Keith

Excellent work guys, This latest patch is as far as I can tell flawless. I had no cloud pops or wild wind changes. The starting weather and destination weather was exactly and I mean EXACTLY as it should have been on my 3 test flights in the U.S. southwest. I have a 2200 mile trip planned from KLAX to CYUL to really give things a whirl. Wanted to drop a line and simply say there are many programs available to flightsimmers. Some are good, some are great and some are truly remarkable in terms of adding "above and beyond" enhancement to flight-simming. Your program is above and beyond as far as I'm concerned. I just finished updating my OS to Windows XP Pro.(from Win 98) Before doing so, I did manage to place the modules folder from from FS9 on another part of the partitioned hard drive. As I now have to reinstall everything, do I need to re-run the base installer again or is it possible to just move the Active Sky folders that I saved back into FS9.If I have to re-run the installer, do I need to install all of the upgrades too or just the most recent upgrade. Thanks for any help with this.Roger Hollnds

It needs to be looked at carefully and improved.

Are there any settings changes I can make to eliminate sudden changes in clouds and visibility? Unfortunately this is happening on almost every flight using AS. It is almost like I am back in the days of FS2K2.For example, today I conducted a flight from KOKV and KLWS using archived weather from 12Z December 25, 2003. Halfway to the destination the cloud cover went from scattered to overcast without warning.I have my FS sight distance at 80, cloud draw distance at 60.In AS, I have set max visibility at 80, min at 0. Suppression range is 30. Enforce visibility and Visibility smoothing are both checked. Thanks!

Ok guys, after about 15 hrs. of flying this weekend I have some what pinpointed my arrival weather problems.I get exceptional weather down to about 10000ft. and then I start noticing that I get big changes in pressure and I go through different visiblity layers. It almost seems like AS2004 is using the wrong stations for it's weather. It also seems that it is changing stations and loading the different weather. I say that only because I am getting a small FPS hit. And I have noticed that a bit when weather is being loaded in AS2004 and in FS's own weather.Settings in AS2004 are:WindowPosX = 1725WindowPosY = 1935DefaultWeatherFolder = C:INSTALLDIRModulesActiveSky2004Su…

Hello to everyone! This has nothing to do with Activesky, since this is happening to me with default clouds (Fair Weather or other preset).I load the fsim, take off, and as I change heading a bit, or more, I see clouds being draw from left to the right or from right to the left, respectively. But only the distant clouds. I've noticed it's happening only sometimes, and I was unable to determine what's causing it.Maybe you, since you are cloud experts, can easily help me with this issue. Many thanks.
