Hi AllJust wanted to share with others a problem I was having with Active Sky and Radar Contact.When I purchased this great program several months ago and used it in conjunction with Radar Contact, I was finding that on long hauls where I would set Radar Contact to pause at 90 miles for any extended length of time two hours to 12 hours, and when I unpaused Radar Contact, the weather I was receiving from the destingation Airport was not the same as what ActiveSky was forcasting.I believe the problem was because the pause distance was less then 100 miles which is the suppression range which I had selected for AS.I now set the pause distance at 125 miles from destination an…

JimActive Sky wxRE Version 1.92.4 fails to work for me. I have spent countless hours trying to fix this problem and cannot resolve it. The errors I get:- Download time-out, retrying on next update interval.- Cloud layer conflict in METAR, skipping transition...followed by:- Weather processing complete! (with no weather every being loaded)This happens at any airport.At this point in time, wxRE version 1.92.4 never works. I hit refresh, and the same sequence of events occur. I am very new to ActiveSky, but so far I have been impressed and wondered why I hadn't bought it before. However a problem keeps occuring since I installed it yesterday. Every now and then, when the radar is on it completely freezes. Its not a CTD exactly, but it might as well be. I have reinstalled AS and still it happens.I run FS with S-Combo, FS Nav and Active Camera but I haven't seen any posts yet about it freezing. It seems to be related to the radar.Any ideas?

I like to simulate my flights as realistically as possible and use the weather for the time of day that I am flying. Since most of my flight simulator time is available in the evening, but the flights I like to fly are day time flights, I would like a way to incorporate weather from the middle of the day into AS. I have not purchased the product yet (but am considering it). I read the manual on line and it appears as though the AS servers only archive weather data 4 times a day. Is there a way that I can import METAR data from an external site (such as NOAA) for a particular reporting time during the day?Thanks for the help,Dave

Hi to all,first of all congratulations for really great AS2004. I have one question...Is any chance to reduce visibility in higher flight levels (ie FL150, FL300, FL330....) ? I think that visibility in high altitude is very "clear" - not as realworld visibility from this high... I set Maximum Visibility option to 15sm and it seems that it works fine only to 6000feet. Then suddenly visibility is clear...Thanks, milan

Hi Greg,I just gave wxRE a try and got good data, so it isn't a server problem. It probably can't be done, but I'll ask anyway: my cable modem will be inoperative for a few days, so all my flights are grounded since I always fly with real weather, using Active Sky. I was wondering whether there might be a way to download weather on another computer and then use that info in AS offline?ricardo

I have problems with wind transitions. When there is some change in wind speed or direction, my IAS rise or fall rapidly and the aircraft (PMDG) starts "sliding" to left or right (it depends on wind direction).I set my FSUIPC (unregistered 3.44) to "minimum weather defaults" and I'm processing my flight plan into my AS2004.5 Where is the problem?

Hi,Think this has been up before but find it rather important and will therefore ask you again, do you have any plans adding support that would let AS read PMDG flightplans (ie rte files)? Or...do you know of any program that can do this conversion? Have a program doing the opposite, converting pln->rte but not the other way around unfortunately.And then another one when I'm at it...any plans making the wx radar a gauge instead that could be fitted nicely onto an a/c panel?TIA,

Hello everyone, I recently bought AS2004.5 and so far I enjoy it immensely (with the exception of occasional low FPS which are probably related to my middle age system).I prefer to fly in offline mod (patiently waiting for my adsl line and sq3, in no particular order) so when I start AS and connect to the internet I hit the download current weather button to get my weather. Unfortunately for the few days that I have AS this has never worked properly. Hi,I've been having a few problems. On bld 147 of AS, and cannot seem to ever have clouds above approximately 10,000ft. Any idea why? Also I'm not sure from documentation about clearing weather before AS startup within FSUIPC. Docs say using min weather default button in one area and clear all weather in another area of manual. I've been having problems constantly where visibility is better than reported METAR - I've been using the clear all weather button in FSUIPC. Seems to work a bit better if I'm using min default button and clearing all weatther in FS9 but the visibility effets seem to take several minutes to develop after launching AS. Any ideas?thanksGary

I've read many posts regarding sudden changes in the displayed clouds. I'm not sure if I understand it all though.On a number of occasions, I'll be flying along at FL300 and the displayed clouds way down below will suddenly and drastically change. On other occasions, I'm at 10,000 asl and again, the clouds around me will suddenly and drastically change. Is this normal? I'm sure I read somewhere that changes like this were supposed to be gradual.I should mention that I'm currently flying in the eastern area of Africa. On my first AS 2004.5 flight (purchased last weekend), I flew KDEN-KBOS, and as I descended into KBOS, winds aloft went to zero inside FS. However, on the AS panel, it was showing winds of 50-70kts for my altitudes. Upon arriving at KBOS, with the METAR showing 11kts, I had calm conditions inside FS.What could cause this?I started with FSUIPC weather settings at their minimum, but I was being hammered by frequent large baro changes enroute at FL370. Some resulted in instantaneous 100' altitude fluctuations. I tried to reenable baro smoothing (5sec/mb) inside FSUIPC. I might also have reenabled winds aloft smoothing. In the manual it says at the beginning to click minimum weather defaults. Later in the manual is says to Clear All Weather. Do both buttons do the same thing? Just curious. Thanks!

I believe that wake turb. is modeled, but does anyone know to what degree? Meaning is the severity of the wake turb. dependant on the size/weight of the aircraft?I ask because today, somthing happend to me in FS that has not happend in a very long time-I crashed. I have no explanation for what happened. I was flying into KMCO Orlando Intl and was on short final. Visibility was extrememly low, but being daylight I know that I didnt hit an obstruction. I know this issue has been beaten to death. However, I'd like to see an option for light to moderate turbulence incorporated into AS. By turbulence, I do NOT mean rapid wind shifts which cause drastic attitude changes (a topic of much complaint until recent versions of AS). To get an idea of what I mean, set up a wind layer in FS, and set the turbulence to light or moderate. Your aircraft will gently rock and shake. It's a great effect, as you will rarely encounter placid atmosphere in reality. What do you guys think?Carl

I have been having issues with how AS is creating cloud layers aqnd weather in general in my area (New England). I had not been using Fs9 much since around Christmas, but in the last week I have been using it a bunch and I have had some AS issues each flight. The problem is simple. Every station in the region can be reporting low IFR with OVC included in each METAR. Despite that I run into wide-open areas of clear sky between reporting stations. Hello, Love the program, still enjoying build 147 haven't toyed with the betas. I have noticed that at some airports the magnetic variation is showing positive instead of negative. The airports observed included Regina, Saskatchewan and Cranbrook, B.C. - which by the way I highly recommend a try for all pilots, the area is a beautiful approach. There have been others too, I noticed in the activesky folder a listing of all airports, confirmed these airports are showing positive values, made the change to the list and saved it. I am using AS2004 with FSBuild ver 2.2.My fuel loader program for PMDG 737 requires the average wind component for the route to work out the required trip fuel (average headwind or tailwind). When a route is applied to AS2004 it works out an average wind speed and direction for the route flown (bottom of page) but this is not the average wind component.How do I find the average wind component please ?Glen Coyne
