Hi folks. ASV has to be the best weather program. I am having some difficulty installing. I keep getting the window that says "ASV must be installed." I do have ASV 2004.5 installed. Am I missing something. Appreciate the assistance and thanks in advance.

I have just updated to ASV from ActiveSky 4.5. I can't seem to get ActiveRadar installed on my FS machine.I have gone through the prescribed process as far as when I am prompted to locate the "ASV.EXE" file on the WideFS machine.When I navigate to it, despite locating it and trying to move to the next stage, I get an error message saying "you must select the ASV.EXE file before continuing". Can anyone help, please?Whie I am here, can I also ask about the Active Environment upgrades. There are installed on the WideFS machine (in my case), right?ThanksM

I'm having an unusual problem (for me) lately in ASV. I'm loading my flights from my real-life home field of Portland Troutdale (KTTD), but no matter what weather we're having, ASV always puts a line of thunderstorms over the Cascade mountains just east of the field. They'd be centered around Hood River, as near as I can tell. Could it be a glitch in the program, or perhaps bad data being sent for that area? Even on days when it's been CAVU in the real world in that area, I'll come home and fire up an FS flight using ASV and see my old buddies the thunderclouds, lightning and all, centered over the same spot. Hey gang,As you all know I'm a long time user of AS and I've now moved on to experementing with dual PC installs of FS. For example I have IVAO's IVAP client installed over two PC's and it works like a charm! I was just wondering if any of you guys noticed an FPS increase / decrease when you used this setup...I may as well throw this in as well whilst I'm at it ;) any hints of a date for the service release? Also have you guys thought of including a WideFS type of functionality into AS5?Thanks for your time and great support!

Hi,I've been flying in Sharjah lately, with poor vis and dusty weather, but been disapointed to land in the usual all-white sky instead of a nice orange sky like you might experience with this kind of report:OMSJ 110900Z 28004KT 190V060 2500 DU FEW025 BKN120 38/25 Q1000=Is there a way to simulate widespread dust using colorated haze or sky type ? You already sim grayish pollution layer, wouldn't be the same for dust with yellow/orange/red instead of gray tones ??? And make this available is Sky Variations menu ???Wouldn't be possible to change this aswell for poor vis where FS sky is invisible (below 10SM) ?Yohann.

Apologies if this has been answered, buti just installed both. i would like to download weather then go offline, and then have ASV use FE textures. i have choosen All Manual for ASV Flight Environment. What i do now is choose FE randomizer, set up the flight in FS9, window out, start ASV download weather, window back to FS9.Is this correct or any other suggestions?Many thanks

Got 2 PCs networked via router. One running FS9 - 2nd ASV, etcusing WideFS - Relevant drives have all been mapped and haveno problem accessing them. Program Files directories on bothmachines are also shared. It's been working OK but today afterdownloading weather it comes up with an error message sayingit cannot submit data to FS9, giving corrrect path though.I have not been able to get rid of this problem even afterreboot. Would appreciate any help/advice.Thanks

for some reason norton internet security blockds fs browser, when i switch the firewall off i get intrusion warnings when i run the browser and when i swith the firewall back on, norton completely blocks it, any ideas how i can get norton to recognise this program, active sky works fine, done a program scan and norton dosen't detect it as being internet enabled in its scan so can't configure it to work with norton??Paul.

I have Active Sky 4.5 and now purchased the new AWS 5.0 .I wonder that when I install the new version, I have first to uninstall AS 4.5 OR I can can keep both installed.If I can have both installed , I can have the option of using either the new AWS 5.0 for both weather generation and cloud texture, OR I can use the old AS4.5 just for weather generation and use the Flight Environment for texture.I don't know if this is possible. I would value advice from anybody who have tried this, or know if it is possible.

Both last night and today FS9 has been crashing when ASV updates the weather. It hasn't occured when not using ASV yet. Last night it happened on an update mid flight near Pitt Meadows BC (CYPK), This morning it crashed on the first write just after forcing the AI update at London Ontario (CYXU). I was wondering if I am the only person experiencing really slow download speeds when refreshing ASV.I have a 4.5 Mbps downstream capability, which was always consistently utilized by earlier versions of ActiveSky. ASV, however, seems to be more comfortable with downloading at something like 5 or 6 kbps. I feel like some silly AOLer whenever I go for a refresh.What gives??Steve

Hi,Am still sturggling a little with using ASV ie I go to the new route box and fill in all the sections then afterwards press the import button which should create my flight plan but I get the box which just says file name is *pln and don't know what to save the file name as because therer isn't anything there.Secondly I tried to alter the weather using FS2004 weather to see if anything showed up on the radar which it didn't then had a go at altering the weather on ASV and that didn't show up on radar so don't know what's happening there.Lastly how do I find out if there is a headwind or tailwind is this through creating the flight plan as I need this for my correct fuel…

Hi,Have read the information about the error 339 and the file Chilkat.Zip.dll and follwed the instructions went to press repair and this this other message saying about (ASV - Activesky Version 5.msi) is missing so it won't let me repair the file again,then pressing cancel and close brings this message about the installation source for this programme is not available and check that it exsists.I can only remove the program when I select it from the control panel I don't get the option of changing or full install. Have created a flight between Boise and Vancouver, with ten waypoints.Have downloaded AS and I got 362 of 370K's downloaded.I'm now looking at the screen "Processing - please wait while your new routs data is processed blah blah blah..."Thing is - I've been looking at it now for about 20 minutes! I recently had to re install xp, now when i go to the wxre folder i get error 339 comctl32.ocx is not correctly registered message when i try to start the programme.This occurs using version 1.92.0.4.I have somehow lost my original download will i be able to get a new base installer to try a reinstall? This is not related to the threads where the fog generation is occurring on the ground when ASV loads the weather.For some time now, I get this haze/fog that pops on and off at certain times, usually on approach, but I have had it on low altitude VFR flights. I haven't been able to tell if it's somehow related to the change to surface level weather or what. I'm not sure at what altitude surface level changes over. It's been doing for a while and I'm not sure how to get rid of it. hiin the situation tab of active raar i don't get accurate wind speed.i was crossing the pond showing 70kts tailwinds also noticeable in my fmc and the fuel i'm saving because of the tailwind but AR does show me only 20 kts and as a x wind.not a big issue but just curious.thanks!

Was just looking as I fly online on VATSIM and most, if not all of the airports are reporting current weather at around 1856z on the 10th. However in ActiveSky, all of my airports are reporting wx at around 1656z on the 10th. I have Online Updates turned on and VATSIM weather enabled... Server hiccup perhaps?
