I'm considering buying ActiveSky, but my FS computer doesn't have an internet connection.I've searched the forum but I haven't been able to find anything that says whether ActiveSky will work on a system without internet access.I'm currently downloading metars from IVAO and loading the weather into FS via FSMetar from the saved metar file. Even if ActiveSky worked on my system in offline mode, would it provide any significant improvement over FSMetar, given the inability to provide real-time updates?Phil Wright

Is there anyway to acquire lightning for my T-storms? Seems to be the only thing missing or maybe I'm not using the correct cloud configuration?

Hi guys,Suddenly I am having a problem with FS9 crashing as ActiveSky loads the weather. After the weather is downloaded from the server the hard drive gets really busy for about 30 seconds and then FS9 pops up with the Sorry Screen. I ran Filemon and found ASv6.exe:2744 is the file running over and over during the 30 seconds before FS9 goes away. If I don't use ActiveSky and use FS9 weather I don't have the problem. I am using the paid version of FSUIPC 3.70. I did have version 3.72 but I read it was causing some CTD's so I went back to 3.70. Render to Texture is checked if FS9. Did I cause a problem by changing versions of FSUIPC? Thanks,Bill

Hello! Can anyone post his FSUIPC weather/visibility settings when using AS6.5? I am especially interested in the "Set graduatet visibility" and "Override upper altitude" settings, as I am not sure of what they do and how they work together with AS6.5Also, when taking off in cloudy conditions, after some climbing it is possible to look down to the ground, where clouds used to be before. Is AS or FSUIPC capable of preventing this? Many thanks,Ron

Hello Gang!I use FSBuild Flight Planner to do my flightplans. I use AS6.5 as my weather engine, and FSX as my sim engine. How can I make FSBuild send FP's to AS6.5 and have AS6.5 recognize them to be able to import them into AS for route and weather planning. Furthermore, how can I get FSX to recognize AS6.5 flightplans or find them to load???????? I'm sure it's just a matter of where I have the programs place the generated FP's. ANy help is appreciated!Sincerely,Dennis D. Mullert

I am new to this great addon and wondering if ASv6.5 with Service Update1 is supposed to show wind driven snow while on the ground or have I not set it up correctly :-hmmm ? Example, CYUL 022100Z 07016KT 4SM -SN DRSN BKN009 OVC025 M02/M03 A2951 RESN; yet the snow is falling vertically, not influenced by the wind.K9

Hi all,I really, really want to buy ActiveSky because it looks so good and gets rave reviews (and I finally have a comp to handle it). But, I do all my flying on VATSIM, and so I would be tempted to use the VATSIM weather to keep consistent with controllers.BUT, I do want to have winds aloft, which is noticeably missing from VATSIM weather. Can I import the VATSIM weather and keep winds aloft?Or, is it better, as some people seem to do, to just use the AS weather and ignore what VATSIM says? Thanks!Brad

I have AS V6.51, MS .Net 1.1, FS9 running on decent modern hardware. When I start AS, I get the following (obtuse) error message:-------------------------- ASv6 (dialog box title)-------------------------- Run-time error '339': Component 'ChilkatZip2.dll' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a file is missing or invalid ------------ I OK I (the sole dialog option button) -------------------------------------------------------------Clicking 'OK' terminates the AS load sequence - this is a longway from OK, BTW.Any help is deeply appreciated,--Larry

Today I updated AS6 and flew from Toronto to Detroit in both FS9 and FSX. Both sims displayed ground wind speeds of 90 at 14knts that were accurate according to AS6. In FS9 upon departure and as I ascended to 18000 ft the winds gradually shifted from 90 degrees to 176 to 238 at 38 matching exactly the winds aloft depicted and reported by AS6. In FSX making the same ascent to 18000 ft the winds pretty much stayed from the east 90 to 100 degrees and gradually increased in speed to 60 knots. Clearing weather in FSX and letting AS6 update still resulted in the same readings. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is happening here with the upper winds in FSX. Ive also noticed …

Living in Wyoming, I see lots of different skies, and lots of them... This morning, I stared at them for a while during a smoke break and they (cumuli) struck me as being very FSX-like: with blurry boundaries yet well-formed. However, cumuli are like this all the time in FSX whereas in reality they often take a much better defined consistency, particularly in the summer, to the point, that we know, where they almost become solid-looking. Having flown zig-zaging between such cumuli congesti, I know that their solid appearance gives way to fluff only when nearly into them. I was wondering whether there would be way to draw/generate such "solid" cumuli and if it wouldn't be …

I'm loving the GE Pro + AS6.5 combo. My only problem is as follows. I still get the dreaded hard horizon, but its not everytime. Sometimes especially during the day i'll get nize horizons and they look very realistic. But when it comes to sunset time and night time, on a clear day i get the dreaded hard horizon..even though ive got GE Pro on auto submit with AS6 and just as a backup i use the smoth horizon them in ASG. Is there any way around this. I do have the FS9 haze layer checked..do i need to uncheck this?also i have the use manual METAR data with GEPRO unchecked..do i need to check that box?thanks for the help

Since this morning I cannot connect to the HIFIDataNet with AsV6 - we had in Berlin this problem a few months ago ( just ARCOR.DE customers in and around Berlin !).It would be interesting if this occurs again . . .I would ask for any information, if other aereas are effected as well or only BerlinEdit: Seems to be the same problem - also unable to reach www.hifisim.com2nd. Edit : Just checked with a friend in EDDV - HAJ and he CAN connect to www.hifisim.com so its deftly the same problem - last time it was resolved after 5 to 6 days but with no explanation, so I don't have any idea to solve the problem more rapidly

I'm finally getting back into FS9 and AS6 after a long lay-off. I generally use offline mode, using archived downloads from earlier dates, and have a couple questions:1. If I download a previous-dated, archived weather set, are the corresponding historical TAFs also downloaded? If so, will having "TAF processing" checked allow those TAFs to be used?2. As you know, when weather is changing rapidly, there may be multiple "special" METARs issued between the normal hourly updates. I can catch one of these if I happen to "download current" weather at the right moment, but I haven't been able to get one if I download archived weather. The reason I ask is, I can look up th…

When I load a flight plan in the load route screen, everything goeswell. It loads, gets the data for the waypoints, displays all the data, but when I try to "print all" to a printer. I get the following error:"run time error '482' printer errorWhen I select ok it closes out activesky completely.I am running 6.5 build 533. on a Win XP media center laptop. What could be causing this? What info do you need other than provided? Thanks,Scott H.

New user of ASv6. Why do the winds aloft from ASv6 and other weather sites such as the NWS or NOAA for the same METAR/TAF time and location seem to not be the same. Is it because the winds aloft from NWS/NOAA are 6 hour forecasts for a particular location whereas the winds aloft from ASv6 are obtained from more current weather sources gathering more current winds aloft data? No matter what I do, I cannot get the ASv6 winds aloft for a particular METAR/TAF location to agree with the other winds aloft sources. e.g. Winds aloft on 2/24/07 from NOAA, valid for 241800Z, for use 1700-2100Z for a departure from KORD (using the nearest NOAA winds aloft site of JOT) at FL 340 show…

In reviewing various forum posts about FE and its textures, I came across a statement made by Damien over a year ago regarding the use of ASG as the "engine" to submit all relevant textures to FS, regardless of the source of those textures. That got me thinking ...Considering the overlap between textures submitted by ASG and FE and the desire to have the best of both, I experimented a bit last night. My goal was to have a single source for all Dawn/Dusk textures - leveraging the best of ASG and FE!What I did was this: I copied one set of FE Sunrise textures into the ASG Dawn texture folder. The last ASG dawn texture set was '065' so I named the FE Sunrise textures as '…

Hi,I have ActiveSky 6.5 setup on a remote/wideclient pc and Ground Environment Pro installed on the FS2004/wideserver pc. I am wanting to use the feature that exports weather data to GE PRO. The problem is that when I click the GE PRO button on the main control panel window, I get an error that says "Ground Environment Pro was not found which is required to use this feature..."Is there any way to configure AS6 to find GE Pro on the FS2004 pc?Any info/help would be greatly appreciated!

A quick feedback for the developers: The stutters I experienced during weather update in FSX (with and without throttling) disappeared after I installed the new ATI drivers released last week.
