I'm about to go back to ActiveSky 6.5 since ASE has a lot of problems regarding depicting the right weather and wind at the destination airport.I'm using FSX and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. I know that ASG is not compatible with FSX. But when I install ActiveSky 6.5, do I have the option to not install ASG? I have my own cloud textures, so ASG is not needed. How can ASG be prevented from installing when starting the installer for ActiveSky 6.5?Jon

I updated to the new SP1 for Active Sky Evolution, and lately I've noticed plenty of hard horizons and unlimited visibility at cruise altitudes, and it won't return to normal hours on end, or flash in and out of correct visibility. Attached is a screenshot on a flight from MKJS to KPHL over the Atlantic Ocean near Florida in LevelD 767.I don't use Direct Wind Control and its associated visibility smoothing because I prefer the wind smoothing of FSUIPC 4.60 and I'm not fond of the limitations that come with choosing DWC in regards to inaccurate ATIS reports and AI contrails of a/c on the ground when I'm in cruise altitudes. But sure enough, if I enable DWC the proble…

Hi.I've gone back to AS 6.5 and it seems to work fine. The only problem I've got is the winds keep shifting (and cloud popping) during updates with 6.5 but I heard that can be eliminated with FSUIPC. I have a registered version of FSUIPC v4 and tried wind smoothing in that but it doesn't seem to solve the problem. Does anyone know how to set up FSUIPC with AS 6.5 in FSX to eliminate the wind shifting problem???I have FSX with acceleration and window 7 64bit. I also have ASE but due to the many problems with it I've decided to re-install AS 6.5. I use FSBuild for my flight planning and import the weather into this. Thanks, Martin.

Hi Jim/Damien, ASE is behaving strangely. I did a flight yesterday and most of the destination weather was the same as my departure (wind, temp, pressure) even though the 2 airports were 4000nm apart! I did a test today sat on the ground at MYNN and after the initial set (which was ok) the weather did not update. I checked the ASE interface and that was succesfully downloading and displaying the latest metar, but it was not updating it in FSX. I fired up ASA and did the same test and everything updated as normal, strange? I'm using the latest builds, FSX SP2, FSUIPC 4.25 (weather settings off), Vista basic 32bit. I'm not in 'global mode' in ASE. Not sure…

Also posted at HIFI users / ASE forum - not sure where I 'should' post.=========================Hello...Using registered FSUIPC / FSX / WinXP sp2.I am a long time ASky user.Recently picked up ASE and been working out some issues.I start ASE, then start FSX, press weather settings OFF in FSUIPC, process a plan, go fly it. I have seen this problem with DWC on and off, force DEST winds is set to OFF (I have also reproduced the problem with forece DEST ON - it is set to OFF as per Jim's recommendation).1. On final approach, the DEST winds are never correct unless...I press the weather settings OFF button again in FSUIPC...then I see an immediate update to the weather for DEST…

Hi,If I am flying in FSX with ASE weather active and I save the flight for another day, what happens with the weather when I reload FSX? If I reload FSX without ASE will the weather settings be remembered in the saved flight in FSX (albeit in 'static' format)? The reason I ask is that I do a lot of VFR flying where I calculate my own TRK/HDG/GS etc based on wind speed and if I save the flight and reopen it later with 'current' ASE weather running the winds have changed and I have to recalculate all my TRK/HDGs etc...I hope that this makes some kind of sense and isn't just a load of waffle! Thanks

Hi Everyone - How can i turn OFF all winds and turbulance? In my Wind Options, all the sliders are at 0, and i have Disable Winds Aloft and Direct Wind Control both ticked. But when i fly in FSX, the plane still wobbles about all over the place.I read somewhere (i thinkg the ASE website) changing these settings in the FSX.cfg can help:MinVarTime=80MaxVarTime=80TurbulenceScale=0.300000...but this doesnt make a difference. Would purchasing FSUIPC and using the smoothing in that ALSO make a difference?Thank you for your help! :-)

Hello all,Does anyone have a clue on how I could get rid of this ridiculous horizon line? Before ASV6.5 I was using Soft Horizons textures which was able to make it disappear to some extent. Now with only AS Graphics, it's back.My visibility is set to the lowest in FS and to 59NM in Active Sky. Visibility smoothing is enabled.Any advice is appreciated! :( Thanks

Does anyone here have Flight 1's Pilatus PC12? If so have you found that it doesn't get on with ASE? I find that after a few minutes when everything seems fine, the a/craft suddenly becomes uncontrollable, flipping from left to right rapidly. If I shut down ASE and bring in ASv6.5 all is well and normal. Any ideas as to what might be causing this? This is FS9 running in Win 7 64bit.Iain Smith

Hi!Im experince some rather strange and fast changes of wind direction in FSX with ASE lately, even with FSUIPC windsmoothing enabled. The winds reverse almost 180 degrees, and then reverse back again shortly after. Out of curiosity i looked in the log file (even though i don't understand much of the data there) and found a couple of these lines in the log file::36:0059 - Met/Rep Data Received...22:43:36:0077 - Airmet/Sigmet Parse Skipped Item Warning (23) 60WSW MIA TO 80SSE MIA LINE TS 20 NM WIDE MOV LTL. Hello,First of all I'd like to say that I'm a very happy HiFi Sim customer and what great products ASE and Xgraphics are. Without a doubt the best FSX add ons I own.I prefir Xgraphics over REX and FEX because I like the way it works with ASE to automatically intall the best textures for the weather conditions I am going to fly in. However, I've noticed that when comparing Xgraphics to REX and FEX that the textures are not quite as detailed. The cloud textures are almost as good but the water textures are a long way behind REX and FEX. Are you ever likley to update Xgraphics in the future to allow better quality and higher resolution textures? Is there any chance that you …

A suggestion for future update? How about a check box whereby if checked the visibility 0-2000 ft ABOVE a cloud layer will be set to 3 miles. Visibility WITHIN the cloud layer that is 6/8 to 8/8 is 1/4" mile, Visibility in 3/8 to 5/8 2 miles. I experimented with this and it seems more realistic especially when breaking through the top or bottom of a cloud layer. Thank you for such a great program!

I have read, re-read, and read again all posts about SimConnect and the problems that can occur when people are using Active Sky in a network environment. The problem I'm having is most peculiar and I'm unable to find a resolution to it.I have a laptop running Active Sky Evolution and going thru the ASE document properly configured the client and the server and was able to run ASE successfully. A few days later while running FSX I noticed weather wasn't updating properly and sure enough, ASE wasn't able to connect (the easiest way for me to verify is by going to the map in ASE and clicking the "Lock to FS position " checkbox, when ASE can't connect the checkbox never en…

Hi Jim,I would value your words of wisdom.Today, when trying out your settings for FSX ASE is failing to load the weather if I have the item show in sim messages unticked. If i start again the this option ticked ASE loads the weather which it downloads.I have confirmed that the weather is not showing in FSX by using the atis broadcast for the airport and can confirm to you that it is showing the standard weather setting within FSX.Should this occur ,how do I rectify this problem as it is much better not to have the scrolling bar about station updates.ASX is fuctioning ok.RegardsNorman Bowman

What exactly does the "lock to closest" option do?I decide to set up a flight at CYYY, where the Wx is 050/03, overcast and 0 vis. I install a graphics snapshot and start FSX. The weather, however, is nothing like what is forecast for CYYY, with different winds, cloud and visibility. What puzzles me is that if I check "lock to closest", ASE says that the closest station is LCLK, in Cyprus - which explains the fine weather!!I'm running ASE build 572, plus X Graphics, FSGlobalX 2010, ORBX FTX, UT2 - all in FSX acceleration in Win 7 64-bit. FSUIPC 4.40 registered.I've followed Jim's suggested settings in his helpful, recent post - except that I'm not using DWC, but rather wi…

What is the best way to set the cloud options so that the weather gets depicted as realistically as possible? And how do most people have these options set? For example, this morning there is not a cloud in the sky in my area, but ASA is depicting some cirrus cloud layers that just aren't there in real life. I'd like to get ASA to quit depicting clouds when there aren't any to depcit in real life. I'm thinking it has something to do with how I have my CAVOK generation, Cirrus generation and No Data generation options set so I'm wondering how everyone has theirs set and\or what are the best options to use for these three things. Or maybe the cirrus clouds are a resul…

Just wondering why Elstree airfield (EGTR) is not on the map in ASX. The nearest it will give me is Hatfield (EGTR). I'm not making a flight plan but I've set my aircraft at Elstree in FSX and went back to ASX and tried to select 'Lock To Closest' but EGTR is not there.

Hi,For a short while I thought the ASE wind bug wasn't affecting my Flight Simulator, but it appears I was wrong :( Check the following pictures:METAR is indication Winds 290/6, graphical representation is indicating 320/6 ?!?Winds in FS at departure 040/6 for about 5 minutes (also after refresh), later on 320/06Running ACE on WideFS for FS9.FS9 System: WinXP SP3ACE System: Win7 X64 Ultimate UPDATE:Winds in ASE is now showing 030/07 (Both METAR and Graphical representation)Winds in FS are 170/07 ? .... and now 030/7Maybe the latter is caused by FSUIPC wind smootingUPDATE2:I'm no departing. Winds in ACE still 030/7, winds in FS 100/7.There is definately something wrong.

Hi,I've been flying the BN Islander into St. Barths and so I've been crashing regularly!! I've noticed that after each crash, the weather returns to pre ASE settings (clear sky, 50 miles vis as set in my FSX default flight). ASE does detect the crash and resets itself by redownloading weather and starting the synthesis etc, but the weather never changes in FSX. I have to restart ASE to get the correct weather again.I'm running ASE on a seperate PC. Any ideas whats going wrong?ThxSteve

Hi simpilots,I forget the shortcut that a friend revealed me some time ago, to show the metar message (the same message that shows when METAR is updated) when I want. I rember is a SHIFT + F6, but this is wrong. Someone knows the shortcut to show the METAR messages?Thank you very much in advance.Alberto

Hifisim blows big green donkey balls, and Jim is about as sincere as the CEO of BP talking about the oil spill. He's the "yes man" for hifisim, telling everyone whatever he thinks they want to hear - and saying nothing otherwise.Hifisim sux anymore, and will never complete their incomplete software ASE or ASA or whatever the hell they're gonna call it when the next "new" release comes out and fails to fix any of the problems in the previous releases.HIFISIM SHOULD BE IMPEACHED !! Boy, I sure wish it was possible to impeach them. Too bad we can't.
