The AVSIM Screen Shots Forum
Have a favorite screen shot of your simulator that you would like to share? You can by posting it here. Please follow image posting rules (below). Images must be hosted on an image hosting website. Please use prefixes to identify the simulator you are using (see pinned topic for guidance). Please include information about the screenshot(s) such as location (flight plan?), the aircraft, weather engine, scenery (i.e., Orbx/FTX, GEX, FSDT, FlightBeam, FlyTampa, etc.).
Screenshot Image Posting Rules
- Images must be hosted on your own image server site, such as Drop Box, Google Drive, Photobucket.com, OZx Image Hosting, or a website that you own. See guidance at following link - http://www.avsim.com/topic/479802-how-do-i-post-a-screenshot/
- Images can be of any size; however, be considerate of your fellow AVSIM members as large photos will take longer to load for some members who do not have fast Internet connections.
- Images will automatically be resized to fit the viewer's screen width. This process is done automatically by the AVSIM website program.
- No more than 20 images per thread (topic). Moderators will remove any image that exceed this requirement.
- AVSIM members are reminded of the AVSIM Terms of Service in respect to images, and copyrighted and intellectual property. Images that violate our policies regarding copyrights and family safe environment will be removed and, depending on the severity of violation, user suspended or banned from AVSIM.
- Images copyrighted on other websites such as Airliners.net are not allowed and will be removed immediately.

Occasionally, I run into an (un-explored) aircraft in my Archive that brings such a pleasant surprise, and also so much fun to fly...! This happened today with the (respected SIM developer) Golden Age Simulation (GAS) created "Travel Air Mystery Ship", which is the topic of my post here. In one of my earlier posts (on Alabeo Gee Bee Z), I'd mentioned the (prestigious) Thompson Trophy Race of the 1930s. The Race's first competition would take place at the Cleveland Municipal (now Hopkins) Airport, in Ohio, in 1929. Until then (1928), all the National Air races had been completely dominated by military competitors, simply because the military had (ready) access to the:…

Here (below) are the other colors of this famous (Travel Air) monoplane, including the Red & Black, I had posted earlier. All total, only five R-Types of Mystery Ships were built. The plane in the 3rd and 4th images below (Texaco - Red & Cream) is the one that's now preserved at the Chicago Museum of Science and Industry, which I'd a chance to visit. The Exhibit is suspended there, with strings, from the high ceiling, in a tilted fashion, and, on their website, I read today, the following note about this display: "To indicate speed, the Travel Air makes a swift and steep banking turn from above the Coal Mine (btw, the Coal Mine was also an excellent Exhibit, as I …

Wendover was chosen for the 509th's atomic mission training because of its sheer isolation, which kept the project secret. Anyone with loose lips might sink ships, and Paul Tibbets did not hesitate to send them to Nome Alaska or the Aleutians if they were a bit too talkative. John

Some personal observations: It appears that the LOD & Mipmaps in Microsoft Flight Simulator scale pretty similarly to Google Earth. Although at high altitudes & over long distances, the Mipmaps used by Google Earth are extremely low poly & of low quality. Maybe Bing 3D does it better, I don’t know, because I didn’t use Bing Maps. I found their app super janky & inconvenient. I’m more comfortable with Google Earth. Regardless, it appears that Microsoft is running some algorithm on top to clean out the low poly buildings, trees, etc. at high altitudes and over longer distances, to make them appear much better and give the impression of better LOD. Of co…

I had purchased Aerosoft's (wonderful) DC-8, but not flown it...so here is my 1st flight with it. And, to recall the memory of this iconic aircraft from Douglas, I've chosen Icelandair for livery. Icelandair has a very interesting history. The airline is naturally blessed with a (strategic) geographic location (being headquartered near Iceland's Capital City of Reykjavik) - convenient for transatlantic flights. It originated in 1937, when a new fledgling airline named Flugfélag Akureyrar was founded in Iceland's north coast. So, this was the beginning of Icelandair. Then, in 1944, came, Loftleidir (founded by 3 young pilots fresh from their flight-training in Canada), lat…

Since I recently added Aerofly FS2 I did not want to be remiss and forget about P3DV4 and Xplane11, since I have heavily invested interest in those sims way before I found Aerofly, so my last post was Xplane11, and I am now sharing some P3DV4 screenies from NYC to Dulles... John
