</p>

<p>
	Doing the best to fly as real as it gets, I wanted to experiment the last approved way in April 2026 to make the San Diego Bay tour. FAA has closed the at-or-below-500-feet below Lindberg departure, so the VFR corridor + 1'000 feet with North Islands tower + 180° at Point Loma seems to be our last chance. I picked MSFS2024 (Beta SU5 1.7.22.0), the Carenado Dakota, my Foreflight iPad app and let's go!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="pFjuWU.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1777" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/pFjuWU.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	The VFR Corridor available on the San Diego TAC Supplemental:<br />
	<img alt="zVGgQq.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="67.20" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="656" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/zVGgQq.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	Zoom on the track log of the Bay tour as seen from Foreflight (and some slight deviation <span class="ipsEmoji">😉</span> )<br />
	<img alt="l2A3rS.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="67.20" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="656" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/l2A3rS.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	Departing from San Diego Mongtomery Field (KMYF):

</p>

<p>
	Today, the runway 23 is active at KMYF:
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="xZqBqn.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="69.44" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1000" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/xZqBqn.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	First leg over San Diego downtown at 3'500 ft. The (MSFS2024 Real Time) weather wasn't much cooperative for this flight:<br />
	<img alt="j9W76T.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1777" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/j9W76T.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	The (real time MSFS2024) weather is at the limit for this exercise:

	<img alt="BezPZD.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="857" style="height:auto;" width="2048" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/BezPZD.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	After the 180° in the south of the San Diego Bay to reach 1'000 feet, let's head north west bound to target Coronado Bridge:<br />
	<img alt="1JHPd6.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1779" data-src="https://i.vgy.me/1JHPd6.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	Over Coronado Bridge 1'000 feet:<br />

</p>

<p>
	Slightly overshooting my turn when close to San Diego Lindberg (KSAN). Was attracted by liners <span class="ipsEmoji">😉</span>
</p>

</p>

<p>
	The famous Manchester Grand Hyatt, Marriot and the Convention Center. Omni is on the back, the Westin... I think I've done all of these (in real life)!

	Hello everybody, and welcome on board!
</p>

<p>
	After a couple of days in the middle of the desert, it’s time to fire up the engine again. Today, we’re heading all the way east — from Hawtah, a small airfield operated by Saudi Aramco, to Muscat in Oman. Flight time was 4:40 hours, and honestly… it was a boooooring one. I’ve seen the desert and sand in all their variations — and that’s exactly what I’m going to show you.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="xo6pnqec.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="68.69" height="961" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/xo6pnqec.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Before leaving the air-conditioned airport office, let’s take a quick look at the flight plan. Originally, I had planned to follow the Silk Road eastbound. But due to the current war situation and the closure of Russian and Ukrainian airspace, I had to divert far to the south before turning east. That’s why I now have to cross the Arabian desert.<br />
	Today, we need to stay well clear of the Persian Gulf — and of course the Strait of Hormuz. So, we’ll remain mostly within Saudi Arabian airspace, with the United Arab Emirates to the north, before entering Oman. From there, we’ll cross the Hajar Mountains and begin our descent into Muscat.<br />
	And of course — never go flying on an empty stomach. Today’s choice: dates.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ohn7ce3h.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/ohn7ce3h.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Avgas was surprisingly cheap — apparently supplied via a nearby pipeline. So I topped up the wing tanks and the center tank, completed the walkaround and…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="rd2vxvmp.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/rd2vxvmp.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	…took off with a 12-knot crosswind.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ry5xqi8h.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/ry5xqi8h.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	The wind was a bit tricky today. We had an annoying headwind — the last thing you want when flying over such a dull landscape.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="3lbubb5x.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/3lbubb5x.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	But our plane does look beautiful, doesn’t it?
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="2ckshzwy.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/2ckshzwy.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	A pipeline with several pump stations stretching through the desert.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="xc7fijh3.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/xc7fijh3.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	According to Windy, conditions are much more favorable at higher altitudes. So we climbed to 16,000 ft until we finally picked up a tailwind. At this altitude, fuel burn is about 7.6 gallons per hour. With 90 gallons on board, we could almost fly forever today.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="2gzk7pqx.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/2gzk7pqx.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Sand, sand, sand… everywhere you look. It really gets monotonous!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="6zykcs29.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/6zykcs29.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Two hours later, the scenery changed slightly — but in the end…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="z77laq6r.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/z77laq6r.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	…it’s still just sand.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="3guarks8.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/3guarks8.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	If you take a closer look at the horizon, you can spot the Persian Gulf — just a thin bluish line in the distance.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="pj6xchut.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/pj6xchut.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	After three hours of flying, we finally approach the Hajar Mountains in Oman.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="qi33r8yj.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/qi33r8yj.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	It’s great to see something other than flat desert!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="vt2vifiw.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/vt2vifiw.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Nature can be surprisingly artistic at times.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="b54g88vy.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/b54g88vy.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Thirty minutes to go!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="n3yr2wni.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/n3yr2wni.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Due to the current situation, traffic in Oman is quite light, so we were cleared for a visual approach. Here we are entering right downwind for Runway 08R — the airport is already visible on the horizon.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="7sfh4ltm.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/7sfh4ltm.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Gear down — landing checklist complete!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="68ionjcw.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/68ionjcw.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Parked at the general aviation terminal.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="kmhza99a.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260423/kmhza99a.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	And here comes our transfer to the hotel.
</p>

<p>
	Thank you for joining me once again! Next time, we’ll cross the Gulf of Oman and continue further east into Asia.<br />

	مرحبًا friends!
</p>

<p>
	After spending a couple of days dealing with diarrhea at a Red Sea resort, it’s time to continue the journey. Today, we’re heading further east — flying from Marsa Alam in Egypt to Al Hawtah in Saudi Arabia. This means crossing the Red Sea and heading towards Medina, then continuing along the Tropic of Cancer through the Arabian desert to Hawtah, a small town shaped by the oil industry. Saudi Aramco operates a small airfield there — and that’s our destination for today.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ivl36wux.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="65.14" height="912" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/ivl36wux.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Before departure, it’s time for some flight planning — and, even more importantly, a regional dish. I prepared a flatbread with hummus, cucumber, tomato, and lamb, topped with roasted dates and seasoned with olive oil, parsley, and mint. It was absolutely delicious — highly recommended!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="krf3rwmx.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/krf3rwmx.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Let’s fuel up and do the walkaround.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="n6hvqrdd.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/n6hvqrdd.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Goodbye, Marsa Alam!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="q4dyc8xx.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/q4dyc8xx.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Passing some holiday resorts… and coincidentally, I’m flying right over the one where I spent my honeymoon with my wife ten years ago!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="xp6yq78y.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/xp6yq78y.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	A few ships below us…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="vo5y8kuz.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/vo5y8kuz.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	…and after about an hour, we reach the Arabian Peninsula.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="87v5ijzk.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/87v5ijzk.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Volcanic mountains line the coastline.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="tm39mroc.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/tm39mroc.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	No trees, no fields, no meadows.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="mdsf3pb7.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/mdsf3pb7.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Today’s cruising altitude is approximately 9,000 ft.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="a6siuprg.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/a6siuprg.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Every now and then, you can spot airfields in the middle of nowhere — most of them belong to oil companies and serve nearby drilling facilities. The dark hills below are made of basalt — clear evidence of volcanic origin.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="jtcite6m.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/jtcite6m.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Another hour later, we pass the city of Medina. Can you spot the minarets?
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ok8x39dr.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/ok8x39dr.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Such a large city in the middle of the desert!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="5iywz9ei.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/5iywz9ei.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Passing Hirmah — it almost looks like a lake made of sand.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="njlfi28a.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/njlfi28a.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	I really like this shot — the reflection of the desert on the fuselage.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="oizxsb4k.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/oizxsb4k.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Fifty shades of sand!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="lnqbpgqa.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/lnqbpgqa.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Oooh, what’s that? Towering clouds over the desert! Still far away, but clearly right along our route.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="r5vfr9jj.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/r5vfr9jj.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Following Highway 40 further east. We’re now flying almost exactly along the Tropic of Cancer.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ja67dj83.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/ja67dj83.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Another 30 minutes later — rain! I never expected that, and there was no indication in the weather briefing for this flight (only a few thunderstorms were reported further north). At first, I thought it was a glitch in MSFS 2024 live weather, but a quick check on Windy confirmed that everything was accurate. So yes — it was actually raining in the desert. Wow!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="b4cao2qn.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260418/b4cao2qn.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Flying through rough weather with strong turbulence — winds shifting from 270° to 020°, gusting up to 35 knots. Unfortunately, Hawtah Airport doesn’t provide ATIS or METAR data, but Riyadh Airport, about 110 NM away and the nearest reporting station, had already dropped to MVFR conditions.

	After passing through the weather front, visibility improved and the winds settled somewhat. Here we are on short final into Hawtah, with a 12-knot crosswind.

	Dear friends,
</p>

<p>
	Join me on my trip around the globe in the fabulous Piper Comanche. I really hope I’ll complete the journey one day… or maybe not. Let’s see — and let’s skip the blah!
</p>

<p>
	The first leg starts in Munich, Germany — or more precisely, in Oberschleißheim (EDNX), just north of the Bavarian capital. Today, we’ll be flying to Lido Airport in Venice, Italy. Estimated flight time is about 90 minutes.<br />

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="675" style="height:auto;" width="1200" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/g8likze7.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><a href="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/g8likze7.jpg" rel="external nofollow"><span></span></a><br />
	It’s Easter, and spring has finally arrived. Time to get ready for the big adventure.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="675" style="height:auto;" width="1200" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/rsgn3hn3.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	With a 22-knot headwind, the takeoff roll was pleasantly short.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="674" style="height:auto;" width="1199" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/6cji9kmc.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><a href="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/6cji9kmc.jpg" rel="external nofollow"><span></span></a><br />
	Waving goodbye to my hometown. You can spot Marienplatz and the Frauenkirche near the wingtip.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/rqdgvb3h.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />A few moments later, we’ve passed the suburbs and are flying over Lake Starnberg. The Alps are already visible on the horizon.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/xiq4caab.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Passing the Zugspitze, Germany’s highest mountain, right on the border with Austria.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/bgxnmytn.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />After entering Austrian airspace, we pass overhead Innsbruck’s controlled airspace and continue southeast toward the Brenner Pass, one of the most important Alpine transit routes between Germany/Austria and Italy.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/uvswat2o.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />The Inn Valley to the left, with Innsbruck visible in the distance.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/tn74rjrh.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Just a few minutes later, we’ve already left Austria, and Italy welcomes us with a stunning view of the Dolomites (Langkofel / Sasso Lungo).
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/w9vcq5oq.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Piz Boè shining in the afternoon sun.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/8s8xjvxp.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Time to continue south. Only a few minutes later, we’ve crossed the Alps, and the Adriatic Sea comes into view. Venice is already straight ahead.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/mcf2hq5a.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />What a view — Venice is always worth a visit!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/gwxxqvqs.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Overflying the Rialto Bridge and St. Mark’s Square.
</p>

<p>
	<a href="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/5zqp6nsq.jpg" rel="external nofollow"><span></span></a><img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/5zqp6nsq.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Entering left downwind for Lido Airport.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="spacer.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260406/ybbh47rq.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Arriving at Lido after 90 minutes.

	Hellas!
</p>

<p>
	Today it’s time to leave the European continent and head for Africa. Our route takes us from southern Greece across the Mediterranean to Egypt. We’ll follow the Nile southbound for much of the flight, passing Cairo and the Pyramids, as well as Luxor and the Valley of the Kings. Then, for the very first time since the beginning of this journey, we’ll turn east and continue towards the Red Sea. Today’s destination is Marsa Alam Airport — a place in the middle of nowhere, mainly serving nearby holiday resorts.
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ezag5wfi.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="71.43" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1377" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/ezag5wfi.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Before heading to the airport, it’s time for a typical Greek breakfast. Today, I went for Greek yogurt with nuts, raisins, almonds, and plenty of honey — I love it! As for the flight planning — as you can see, it’s going to be a long day in the sky.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="hmfpthrx.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/hmfpthrx.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Here we go!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="sosafx5i.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/sosafx5i.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Passing Chania shortly after takeoff. I was there two years ago…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="or8pomuv.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/or8pomuv.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Turning south and climbing along the mountains up to FL120. So yes — we’ll need oxygen again for the Mediterranean crossing.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="qr8scli8.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/qr8scli8.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />One last look — and goodbye to Europe. This is where the tailwind kicks in: 37 knots, giving us a very decent ground speed.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="agb58l35.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/agb58l35.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Cruising over the sea — the engine is running like clockwork.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="22xlesq7.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/22xlesq7.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />After 90 minutes over water, Africa appears on the horizon.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="tz5xkgbg.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/tz5xkgbg.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Alexandria below us.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="dvk4ne5n.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/dvk4ne5n.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />From here, we can simply follow the highway all the way to Cairo — no need for a moving map.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="nirtxqsf.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/nirtxqsf.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />One hour later, the Pyramids come into view — the Pyramids of Giza, of course.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="7crumxls.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/7crumxls.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Cairo in the background — one of the world’s megacities and the largest city in Africa, with around 10.3 million inhabitants.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="pge6sg2a.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/pge6sg2a.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Shortly after passing Memphis, we can see the Pyramids of Dahshur.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="xfvydwiy.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/xfvydwiy.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />And finally, the Meidum Pyramid. Having been a flightsimmer since FS2, I can only sit back and marvel at how far flight simulation has come…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="lm6d89an.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/lm6d89an.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Beautiful geology below as we continue south.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="atu3f679.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/atu3f679.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Sand!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="o7n7bkck.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/o7n7bkck.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />A wadi…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="66mmix8p.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/66mmix8p.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />As the shadows grow longer, we finally pass Luxor and the Valley of the Kings.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="c6g2erm5.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/c6g2erm5.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Now we’re finally on an easterly course — and we need to hurry to reach Marsa Alam before nightfall.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="mj3mwts7.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/mj3mwts7.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />A beautiful sunset reflects off our Comanche, and the Red Sea is already visible on the horizon.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="gsbcxexb.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260412/gsbcxexb.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Turning final at Marsa Alam. That was a long flight — about 3:45 hours, if I’m not mistaken.
</p>

<p>
	Thank you for flying with me today — and I’m looking forward to welcoming you on board again soon.
</p>

	Kalimera!
</p>

<p>
	Welcome to the fourth leg of my journey around the globe. This time, our Comanche takes us from northern Greece to the very south — or, to be more precise, from Corfu to Chania, Crete. In total, it’s about 320 NM, and on a normal day it would be a long flight. But today, we have a strong tailwind blowing to the southeast at around 40 knots at FL120. This allows us to complete the route in under two hours! That means an average ground speed of 170 knots — wow!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="c5q5uay6.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="67.21" height="941" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/c5q5uay6.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />Before departure, I prepared a typical Greek dish called kotopoulo me laxanika — basically chicken with vegetables, olive oil, lemon, and garlic. As mentioned earlier, oxygen is required for today’s flight, and the route takes us along the Ionian Sea coastline to the south, across the Peloponnese, and finally straight to Crete.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="5bgflg3f.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/5bgflg3f.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	It’s still early in the morning here in Corfu. Time for a quick briefing and the walkaround.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="7g5ghksh.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/7g5ghksh.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	While checking the engine, I got this message. I had already noticed that it was running a bit rough during the previous flight, but I assumed there might be other reasons. I didn’t expect a cylinder issue, especially since the engine is still relatively new. So I asked the mechanic to take a look at it.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="gtu93ebq.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/gtu93ebq.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Taxiing across the apron — an Aegean A321 has just vacated the runway.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="kgakk5vp.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/kgakk5vp.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	And we have a liftoff! Woohoo! Even though I’ve used this addon quite often, I had never noticed the abandoned Antonov An-2 sitting off to the side of the apron.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="75nrvlbv.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/75nrvlbv.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	What a beautiful island!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="n9mwpt9f.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/n9mwpt9f.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Climbing to FL120 along the coastline.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="dcyyscyj.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/dcyyscyj.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Preveza and Aktion Airport.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="t4x5tmmh.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/t4x5tmmh.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	And… almost 200kts ground speed! Well — that’s almost the speed of light for a single piston engine. Okay, we do have a strong tailwind… but still — it’s a Comanche! Try this with your Cessna 150! Phew, Phew Muddafakas!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="3gbiv5v6.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/3gbiv5v6.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	If you ever wondered what the landscape of the Peloponnese looks like — this is it.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="fpw62hyc.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/fpw62hyc.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Just cruising… broooom…
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="z2jesngf.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/z2jesngf.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Blue + blue = blue.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="4fmx9j39.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/4fmx9j39.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	And after just 90 minutes, it’s already time to begin the descent into Chania.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="7z4gek3b.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/7z4gek3b.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	ATC gives me vectors for a left downwind and a visual approach, of course.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="msnxjybg.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/msnxjybg.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	It’s clearly not high season yet — only two jets are parked on the apron.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="sk3kso9p.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260411/sk3kso9p.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	One last shot before it’s time to head to the airport office and pay the landing fee.<br />

	Well, thanks to a nice discount on the MS MP, I finally found the replacement for my A2A Comanche <span class="ipsEmoji">😉</span>
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="AP1GczMbCDF4y-3nVf2dj-CmbAT08ieYuNdsjYAS" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="43.38" height="869" style="height:auto;" width="2003" data-src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/pw/AP1GczMbCDF4y-3nVf2dj-CmbAT08ieYuNdsjYAStynvH1wM0Kv0xMVCNwK8icKS9tBCFq1h5eqkdtYIQ3T3YATMO1pYn9zQDHkmssCMdWOlGj64AvZQe-UR3SkMDBbgGiVSSdApdR6Y7oqF1MKJuld3kTKs=w2003-h869-s-no?authuser=0" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	Couple of notes that probably aren't news, but are interesting in my first flight:
</p>

<p>
	I never realized that this is one of the few GA twins where the pilot sits well ahead of the engines, so visibility is at least as good as any single engine. Seems even better than a high wing Cessna! Huge bonus for me as I am DEFINITELY a sight seer <span><span class="ipsEmoji">🙂</span> </span>
</p>

<p>
	Take offs and landings seem extremely reasonable, with no overtly tricky behavior so far.
</p>

<p>
	This thing will overheat in no time at all: tightly cowled engines with not-big enough air inlets, and no cowl flaps / aux cooling.
</p>

<p>
	So you need to get it fast and KEEP it fast to get enough airflow to keep it happy, particularly during departure and arrivals. This is somewhat familiar from my time with the TorqueSim SR22T.
</p>

<p>
	It's very difficult to slow down, so I'm pretty sure shock cooling is a thing on this plane...?
</p>

<p>
	I'm halfway thinking I should just do overhead breaks for every landing so I can keep it cool until I enter the base leg. <span class="ipsEmoji">🤣</span>
</p>

<p>
	So far, it handles quite nicely, even with significant overbank and at least a few G's for that overhead break. <span class="ipsEmoji">😉</span>
</p>

<p>
	I think my only question so far is that, like the Comanche, the thing just doesn't seem to need any rudder at all, even at low speeds. Anyone know anything about that, relative to many other Hi Fi addons in multiple sims...?
</p>

<p>
	Well, signing off for now -  I'm off to do a few more laps. Great addon of a very interesting aircraft!
</p>

	I've got a massive backlog of screenshots from 2025 even into this year.  I don't have as much time to make long posts with 20 pics of all of them.  So I decided to start off with some great views and some of my favorite pics from the last 20 flights or so.
</p>

<p>
	I've also been busy painting for Black Square (along with TimHH) - we made all the default liveries in the C208, not to mention the dozen or so uploads.  We'll do them for the Commander 114 and most likely many Black Square projects moving forward.  I also try to make one or two paints for any new product that comes out as long as it's a General Aviation aircraft.  That's where my heart lies.  I'm not a huge fan of airliners.  But I will get the PMDG 737-700 whenever that arrives.  Maybe I'll even try a paint!
</p>

<p>
	Anyway, here we go!
</p>

<p>
	It's amazing the contrast in a sunny Syracuse, NY flying to a dreary Waterloo, Ontario Canada!  This is the default CJ4 with Verticalsim KSYR and Astralis CYKF - both sceneries very nice and detailed would recommend! (Same with the aircraft!)
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55184673380_401854e268_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1777" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55184673380_401854e268_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55184435038_9ab25091c2_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1776" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55184435038_9ab25091c2_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	I thought NY02 airstrip was fictional, but it's not.  It's a raceway AND a runway.  Mountaintop Airport has nice great freeware at flightsim.to.  I flew the turbine Bonanza late fall out to 57B, just a superb little freeware strip SW of Bar Harbor, Maine

<p>
	I recall having great weather to start but ran into a thick cloud layer and had to descend VFR below it earlier than expected.  The turbine Bo is a true gem of a plane!

<p>
	57B with a runway length of 2400 ft, could potentially accommodate a small bizjet like shown... but really it's better for piston singles or turbine singles/twins with reverse pitch

<p>
	I flew the payware CJ3 from Windsor Ontario (CYQG) to Augusta Maine back in the middle of winter.  I really liked this pic above Buffalo, NY

<p>
	Freeware KAUG from H2Air is nicely done and works fine in 2024

<p>
	I really enjoyed the A2A Aerostar's evolution as they updated it in early access.  I flew it from CNC4 (Guelph Airpark as seen in Flight Chops videos!)

</p>

<p>
	I took a direct headwind flying 350nm to Chicago Exec KPWK, crossing vast portions of Ontario, Michigan and Lake Michigan - it was one of my longer GA flights this last season.  I had a stiff crosswind on final as seen here eek

<p>
	<img alt="55184673945_14af2a08d6_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1776" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55184673945_14af2a08d6_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	I had picked up the Taog 500C last year (I think?) - it's got the best helicopter flight model I've seen yet in any sim.  And it supports the TDS GTNxi with HTAWS.  I'm looking forward to their Dauphin.  Here I am landing downtown LA

</p>

<p>
	Here I am again flying out of Windsor (airport by Dyffler Direct) - really nice airport and I own his Detroit and Windsor scenery as well!  Black Square Velocity XL is shown in the pics - very fast slippery plane with no speed brake or flaps!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55184533359_30f1987bee_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1774" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55184533359_30f1987bee_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	Apparently I flew a lot more in Canada over the past 6 months!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55183388802_304a43c520_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1774" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55183388802_304a43c520_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	I remember this flight...  A really low IFR Fargo, ND to Brainerd, MN (KFAR - KBRD).  Both airports freeware at the usual place.  I ended up performing a circle to land due to winds.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55184533179_474b2c5d67_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1774" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55184533179_474b2c5d67_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	This is my goto for capable winter flying.  I would also love the Aerostar but it's not FIKI capable and is a bit slower aloft.  A2A is apparently considering making a turbocharged version with de-ice boots.  That would be amazing!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55184673695_00a48857e6_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1777" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55184673695_00a48857e6_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	What a great looking bird!
</p>

</p>

<p>
	This is my absolute favorite paint I've ever done, for the Black Square A36 TC.  (you may have seen it on my profile pic at flightsim.to).  I flew from KMHT to KPVD (I bought the Dreamflight version which imo is the best for visuals and performance)
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	I thought these skies looked pretty moody (just NW of Boston here)
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55183388562_dfe7246581_o.png" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="48.83" height="1000" style="height:auto;" width="1777" data-src="https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/55183388562_dfe7246581_o.png" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	And then touching down at Providence

	Ciao ragazzi,
</p>

<p>
	and welcome to the third leg of my journey around the globe. This time, we’re flying from Benevento, in the heart of southern Italy, to the Greek island of Corfu. Today’s flight is rather short at around 85 minutes, but since my Comanche needs a fuel stop before continuing further south, I checked fuel prices along the route — and Corfu turned out to be a great option.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="b6q6c3ns.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/b6q6c3ns.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />As always — never go flying when you’re hungry! So I prepared a typical (and very simple) Italian dish: spaghetti aglio e olio. It can be quite spicy — and I love it! One espresso later, I was in the perfect mood to finish flight planning and jump into the cockpit.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="eck3fjv6.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/eck3fjv6.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Preflight preparations were quickly completed, and just a few minutes later, I was leaving Benevento behind.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="jt946vjl.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/jt946vjl.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Typical southern Italian landscape below — rolling hills, scattered mountains, fields, and countless small villages.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="4zrnh5d2.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/4zrnh5d2.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Heading southeast!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="dsb3yqn2.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/dsb3yqn2.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Now that’s what I call green!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="x94pn32c.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/x94pn32c.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Matera passing below — what a landscape!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="fps2djtr.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/fps2djtr.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Thirty minutes after takeoff, we’re flying overhead Taranto. Too bad I’m already at 8,000 ft — the city looks much more beautiful than it does in this screenshot.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ghgee88z.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/ghgee88z.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	While flying over Apulia, I spotted the Nardò Technical Center, owned by Porsche. It’s huge!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="tslp224b.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/tslp224b.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Ciao, Italia! You can already see the Balkans on the horizon.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="viltlwp2.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/viltlwp2.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	After about 30 minutes over water (with a 30-knot tailwind!), I’m already entering the VFR pattern for Corfu Airport.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="fvcgwq58.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/fvcgwq58.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	If you take a closer look, you can even spot the sunshades on the beach.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="9ojzgkoq.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/9ojzgkoq.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	The runway is just off the wingtip — and if you look closely, you can see an Airbus on short final.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="mn99z2og.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/mn99z2og.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Tower warned me of a 15-knot crosswind — the maximum demonstrated crosswind for the Comanche is 17 knots.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="mth8qypv.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/mth8qypv.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Another less-than-perfect landing later, I’m waiting for the follow-me car to escort me to general aviation parking.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="ucb24kam.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/ucb24kam.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Here we go...
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="3njd9p8n.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260409/3njd9p8n.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	And that’s it for today! Thanks for joining me on this leg.

	Having battled with this aircraft for weeks, the mighty fine folks around here pointed out the error of my ways and at last I have managed to get successfully from Cold and Dark to ILS Landing!
</p>

<p>
	Special thanks to <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://dev.avsim.com/profile/180797-p_7878/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="180797" href="https://dev.avsim.com/profile/180797-p_7878/" rel="">@P_7878</a> for tracking down my error.
</p>

<p>
	These shots are stills taken from an OBS Studio through-the-VR-lens video of a short flight flight from EBOS Ostende in Belgium, to EGKK London Gatwick in UK.
</p>

<p>
	From a VR point of view, there is an added dimension to this aircraft as it has, of course, a third and vital crew position - the Engineer station.
</p>

<p>
	Here's a shot of the pilot/copilot positions:
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="0_Pre_Startup.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="86.04" height="647" style="height:auto;" width="752" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/FKSmc6qK/0_Pre_Startup.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	The Engineer's station is at the right of the shot above.  And opposite the Engineer's back, behind the Captain's seat are the circuit breakers.  And in amongst the circuit breakers, it turns out, are these two vital switches - which I had never noticed until <a contenteditable="false" data-ipshover="" data-ipshover-target="https://dev.avsim.com/profile/180797-p_7878/?do=hovercard" data-mentionid="180797" href="https://dev.avsim.com/profile/180797-p_7878/" rel="">@P_7878</a> mentioned them.  They basically turn on the Localiser/ILS systems:
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="1_Pesky_Switch.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="77.62" height="607" style="height:auto;" width="782" data-src="https://i.postimg.cc/vmnM9KjH/1_Pesky_Switch.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
</p>

<p>
	And I had previously tried maybe twenty 'cold and dark' flights, all failing at the last 5 miles when the Localiser and ILS systems 'didn't respond'.   I am very grateful to the fine folks on the forum for their help in helping me retain my confidence in flying the sim's excellent tubeliners...and in stopping me jumping out of the window in frustration!! <img alt=":smile:" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="//bucket-classabb4b6de-f0f3-41fc-b42f-e9776c8572d8.avsim.com/emoticons/smile.png" srcset="//bucket-classabb4b6de-f0f3-41fc-b42f-e9776c8572d8.avsim.com/emoticons/smile@2x.png 2x" title=":smile:" width="20" />
</p>

<p>
	Nav set up, aircraft fuelled and loaded up, engines started, lined up EBOS Rwy26:

</p>

	It always was a beautiful aircraft:

<p>

<p>
	Ostende is on the Belgian coast and UK is at the other side of the Channel, aircraft clean and climbing:

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	When I demo the sim in VR or 2D to friends and family, it is usually that the sun patches move around as the aircraft turns that wows them the most <img alt=":laugh:" data-emoticon="" height="20" src="//bucket-classabb4b6de-f0f3-41fc-b42f-e9776c8572d8.avsim.com/emoticons/laugh.png" srcset="//bucket-classabb4b6de-f0f3-41fc-b42f-e9776c8572d8.avsim.com/emoticons/laugh@2x.png 2x" title=":laugh:" width="20" />.  I still find it pretty cool myself!

<p>
	Bye Bye Belgium....

<p>

<p>
	Now over the UK and heading towards Gatwick.  Descending gently towards the 2000' ILS capture target:

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	Terrible photo, but here's the bit that had eluded me for so many flights - I have two green lights to the left of the red handle  (ALT Hold and Localiser) and one red (Glide Slope capture) as the aircraft approaches the airport in the distance.  Hard to see on the photo, but the Localiser and Glide Slope yellow guides on the artificial horizon instrument are now also active:

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>

</p>

<p>
	And now the red Glide Slope light is green and the red Alt Hold light indicated that it is no longer active: we're on our way down!:

	Ciao amici!
</p>

<p>
	The journey continues! And this will certainly be one of the most scenic flights of my trip around the globe. We’ll be flying from beautiful Venice across Tuscany towards Rome, then continuing on to Naples and the Amalfi Coast before landing in Benevento, near Naples. I almost forgot how big Italy actually is — today’s flight time was nearly four hours!
</p>

<p>
	I’ve really been looking forward to this leg — and thankfully, the weather was on my side. When it mattered, we had a tailwind of almost 20 knots, and there wasn’t a single cloud to spoil the view. And what can I say? The Italian landscape is so diverse that it never gets boring.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="pkmuznix.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/pkmuznix.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Alright, before we jump into the cockpit, we need to do the flight planning. To get into the right mood, I baked a Tuscan nut cake (Panforte di Siena) and made myself a cappuccino.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="y4m7qunw.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/y4m7qunw.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Here’s the route for today.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="55ws8rzt.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/55ws8rzt.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Goodbye, Venice! I will definitely come back one day...
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="tir2zc78.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/tir2zc78.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	A few minutes later, we’re passing Chioggia — basically like Venice, but without the tourists.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="9i52zfgt.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/9i52zfgt.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Another twenty minutes later, we pass the city of Bologna (which also has a beautiful freeware airport, by the way)...
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="zahsxg9p.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/zahsxg9p.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	...and cross the Apennine Mountains towards...
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="aqspnjwy.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/aqspnjwy.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	...Florence. One of Italy’s most beautiful cities. Can you spot the hot air balloons below?
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="6crxt7mg.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/6crxt7mg.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Florence is the capital of Tuscany. A few moments later, we’re flying over San Gimignano — a town with a long history and great wines.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="fyuv2ky5.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/fyuv2ky5.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Shortly after that, Siena comes into view. I love this city and have been there several times. It’s great to see that Asobo recreated the cathedral.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="4p7ezxqt.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/4p7ezxqt.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Typical Tuscan landscape below — vineyards and olive groves everywhere.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="fui4dmja.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/fui4dmja.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	As we head further south, the landscape changes dramatically. On the way to Rome, there are quite a few volcanic craters that have turned into lakes over time.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="rowp34kn.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/rowp34kn.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Thirty minutes later: Rome! The Eternal City — absolutely! You can see Vatican City ahead of us.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="eytixvsi.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/eytixvsi.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	The Colosseum and Circus Maximus below us.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="fqwfgmfw.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.25" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1399" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/fqwfgmfw.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	On the way to Naples… wait! The air starts to smell like rotten eggs. Was that me? Maybe! Or maybe it’s the Phlegraean Fields right in front of us — a volcanic area considered a supervolcano. But since I’m sitting at my desk at home, it was probably me after all. Still, if you ever visit Naples, you’ll definitely notice the sulphur smell from the Campi Flegrei or Mount Vesuvius.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="6no782yx.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/6no782yx.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Napoli, here I come!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="jl35hh4l.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.29" height="788" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/jl35hh4l.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Napoli, bella Napoli — home of pizza!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="t8ix3nmg.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/t8ix3nmg.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	After a wide circle around the city centre, we continue towards the island of Ischia, just off the coast. What a beautiful place!
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="hj2tmi78.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/hj2tmi78.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	And one more highlight on the route: Capri! That’s where I had the most expensive scoop of ice cream in my life.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="nzyr8byd.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="55.71" height="780" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/nzyr8byd.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	Finally, the Costa d'Amalfi (with Mount Vesuvius in the background)! I spent ten days there last year — one of the most beautiful places on earth.
</p>

<p>
	<img alt="agjye5uh.jpg" class="ipsImage" data-ratio="56.21" height="787" style="height:auto;" width="1400" data-src="https://s1.directupload.eu/images/260407/agjye5uh.jpg" src="https://dev.avsim.com/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><br />
	However, every flight must come to an end. This time, it’s Benevento Airport near Naples. Although it’s primarily used by ultralight aircraft, it’s also perfectly suitable for my Comanche.
</p>

<p>
	I hope you enjoyed this part of my journey. I can only encourage you to visit these places — whether in MSFS or, even better, in real life. Italy might just be the most beautiful country in the world!
</p>
