I'm just getting started with my own plans. An obvious question that pops into my mind is "Where can you but gear wheels?". I need then to connect pots / rotary switches to the actual levers. My old Cannon printer offered me a few bits and pieces but I'm not sure if they will be of any use. Can I buy these little things in multiples?Ken R

I've been working for some time now on developing various USB interfaces and interfacing these with MSFS. As my project grows so has my interface needs. As I look for ways to avoid using 6 separate Joysticks or writing custom interface software to speak with FSUIPC I discovered to my surprise a limitation with MSFS that stunned me!Most of you know that MS has developed DirectX for the purpose of standardizing how software interfaces with the PC hardware. Despite being touted as the "next best thing since sliced bread", you may all be surprised to discover that MS has chosen NOT to use Direct Input (a subset of DirectX) with FS2002!? :( The irony must be lost on them...Ins…

Anyone know the exacty (or very close) color used for the 737NG flight deck? It's very difficult to estimate from photos I've found due to different lighting conditions.I'd like to get as close to the real thing as possible for my deck.thx.Kevin

Hello,Another 2nd throttle question. How can I make it so that the throttle on my CH yoke is reverse thrust? I have my other throttle set up as the main throttle and would love to have my 2nd one as reverse thrust. Is this possible? Many thanksSimon

Hi Fellow builders,My dad got me interested in this hobby, but I'm a little lost with how to get started.I see a lot of home built decks that have multiple monitors for outside views as well as the instruments but I don't know which software to consider.1) I looked at Project Magenta; FSUIPC; Wideview and some others...Do I need all of these, or is there some overlap?2) Do I need to buy an Epic or are there other options?3) Is there a site where I can get an overview of how everything works together? Thanks, and I hope to be building soon!AirHog

I am building a 767 throttle quadrant. I am using a Logitech joystick for roll and pitch control, and wish to use my second joystick (disassembled) to control left and right engine power. The disassembled joystick's pots and switches work when tested in the Control Panel, but do not have any effect on the throttles in FS2K2, despite having tried assigning the resources to the various pots on my disassembled joystick. Only the "throttle" pot can contol throttle for some unusual reason. I wish to use two of the pots because the 767 has two engines. I am not sure what I am doing wrong.

Hi all,While working on my multi purpose concole (GA and commercial) I had to check all the default key assignments in MSFS 2002 pro. I was surprised to find 258 key functions that can be loaded and operated in the cockpit (I use an Hagstrom card, 3 GoFlight modules, a joystick and 3 axis, 4 button controller). There are several problems with those key assignments, which I am sure you are aware of, such as being sorted by the first word of the function - resulting , for example, in finding "increase prop RPM" far away from "decrease prop RPM". To make life easier I loaded all commands in an EXCEL file, so I can sort them by name, keyboard combination or by the name I gave …

I'm building a Cessna 172 sim in an alcove of my office, using an old cheap computer desk as the base. Above it is a screen for a projector I just got from ebay for outside scenery, and on the desk itself I plan to have a 17" monitor for the gauges, and a smaller one next to it for the avionics panel. Both monitors will be covered with grey and black colored compressed thin foam board available from office supply stores like Staples.. with instrument holes cut out of course. (That foam board is perfect for stuff like this.) The throttle and misc switches will poke through a black foam panel below the desktop.However... I would really love the yoke (old CH Pro painted …

I am sorry if this is old news but since I started my cockpit only a week ago (cessna 172) I thought I sould share my progress so far.I bought 2 really cheap USB gamepads for 8 usd, each has 12 buttons so I got a total of 24 buttons. On this buttons I assighned different functions with FSUIPC and I connected them to tongle switches ,push buttons and knitter rotaries and everything works fine ,FSUIPC has an opttion to bypass the repeat problem with the tongle switches.(I also hacked a keyboard but I prefer a setting with 4+ gamepads).Right now I am in the process of fixing a radio stack using FSLCD for display the NAV/COM data and I am about to order the real simkit instrum…

Hey there, I have a CH yoke on USB on one throttle. I also have another joystick with a throttle on it. I would like to know if I can use the throttle on my second joystick for something as well as using my yoke at the same time. In the past when I have had both working together the X and Y axis have conflicted and sent my aircraft all over the place. How can I use the 2nd joystick and not use its X and Y axis but just its Z for another axis.Thank you for any help you can give meSimon

I just finished reading Roland van Roy's write up. Ihave also read Kev's Cockpit and still have a few questions regarding a 767 throttle quadrant I wish to build. I need a little info on how potentiometers (Pots?) function, how they are electrically wired in, what stores sell them, what type will I need? Can I have two joysticks connected to a computer at once? How does the computer know which joystick is which? I'm looking for some design ideas for a multi- position flap control, as well as a trim wheel (use of rotary encoder for these?)Thanks in advance. Any additional material I should read for building controls?Ken Rogers

Hi all..I'm at that stage of my King AIr project to start ordering my interface. The problem I have is I'm real confused on which to go with i.e. EPIC, Hagstrom, FDS InterfaceIT, FSBUS (although no English docs yet) etc.... Can any one make comments on what I should go with based on the following needs:1) Have about 20-30 ON/OFF and momentary switches to interface to most FS2K commands2) Need to drive displays for 2 COM's, 2 NAVS, ADF,Transponder, Altiitude setting and alert3) Autopilot switches4) Warning lights (probably about 20)5) Like to add in a GPS (probably Garmin 530)and FMS later but not for first phase6) If I decided to use keybard interface method (strip down e…

Hi All...another question for the knowledgeable out there:1) I am using one monitor for my pilot gauges (King Air Project). I have been editing my panel.cfg with FSPanel studio. The editing part goes fine. I am pulling my hair out trying to size and position my instruments properly so they appear nicely in the monitor. Problem is I can't seem to get a full size mode in FSPanel studio and keep getting the title bar in the top all the time so my gauges won't line up correctly.....any ideas anyone ? 2) Also, do I have to keep going to FS2K to see how they look. When I do they are not in the same positions as what I thought they were in FSPanel studio....any ideas as I can't …

I would like to build a sim for my son. (Okay, okay, it's for me too.) I know my way around the guts of a computer. Saws and hammers are not foreign to me either. I have no idea how much I will spend or how far I will go with this project. I may build a full 3-screen cockpit with real controls, or I may simply build some rudder pedals and leave it at that. I'm wondering if there are some good sites to "see what others have done".

Just thought I'd share this...www.beingseen.comThis company sells electro-luminescient sheets and fibers that emit a perfectly even, bright glow, in many color choices.Their products range in size from small to large, and can be cut and bent into just about any shape. The power source can be either a 9-volt battery, or a "wall wort" style power adapter. The light this stuff gives off is created by an electro-chemical process, there is no heat generated (at least not enough for any of us to measure). Which means that these things can have decals and even paint applied to them without cause for concern. As far as the life span of the material is concerned, it seems to neve…

Hi every body,I would like to have your idea to correct a little problem that I tolerated during several years. To drive the yoke, rudder and power lever, I use a Y cable (Joystick) and 4 linear potentiometers. Every thing works relatively good but comparing to a truth joystick, the behavior of the potentiometers was always unstable. As a random species of tremor which returns the flight jerked per moment. This is especially true and visible in Flight Simulator panels if you look at the throttle lever. The throttle always move (shake) forward and backward by small increment. To summarize, it's like my potentiometer collected interferences or parasites which make the…

I read posts here frequently and cant help feeling a little envious of the fact that everyone has so much expertise in electronics. What I know about this subject can be written in block capitals on a postage stamp and there would still be lots of room for the portrait of Her Majesty the Queen. In an effort to learn, I built a panel using an old keyboard card. Within its limitations, it worked surprisingly well. I tried a second generation this time with a Hagstrom encoder and that worked even better. What I would now like to try is generation three, the main objective being to get the rotary switches to work as they should. Unfortunately I haven't a clue how to go ab…
