FLY for Mac Users Forum
If you are a Macintosh owner and use FLY, then this is the forum for you!
Lake Tahoe September, 2002 |
This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I just upgraded my G3 233Mhz with a Sonnet G4 500, plus maxed the RAM to 385 MB and added a Radeon card. So, I notice marked improvement over my earlier system (with a Voodoo Game Wizard). I'd like to know, however, whether this (see below) is as good as it gets with my new setup:With minimal graphics settings, instruments scrolled down: 36 fps, with panel (sacred six visible) 14 fps.At SFO taxying, max settings: 7 fps, panel down: 11 fpsBay area scenery max settings: 12 fps with panel.EDDL Rhein-Ruhr scenery taxying: 8 fps, with panel down: 17 fps; flying in that scenery: 12 fps, panel down: 30 fpsThe scenery appears "polygonny" beyond about 5 miles out when on max visib…

Can anyone help with this.I am flying an IFS flight plan and everything seems to be going well.Tower tells me to switch to center at whatever frequancy ###.18.Trouble is I can.t tune the .18..........I can tune .17 and .20 bit not .18.I try to manually enter it in the "tune radios" window but none of that takes. Also, when I bring up airport onfo. The "tune" button won't tune.Probably old stuff, but this is a new user.I would like to be able to tune to whatever frequancy I want. Thanks

Call me a risk-taker; call me a trendsetter. After hugging OS 8.6 for longer than anyone in their right mind should, I finally upgraded to 9.1 this weekend.Don't see any immediate change in Fly II but I haven't had time to wring it out yet. I did notice one thing--When the graphics setting box appears at start-up, OpenGL is selected but the box just below does not show my Rage Orion card--it's completely blank and no choices are offered if I click on the box. When I run the sim, it's obvious that the card is working as designed. The other interesting and related issue is with another TRI program, 4x4 EVO. It has a similar start-up graphics box. It says, "no video card sele…

I am a new user and was wanting to get Fly 2 up and running on my eMac.I have 640 megs of ram and a Saitek joystick. OS 10.2.1When I launch, I get the splash window and then it instantly says"The application "Fly 2" has unexpectadly quit"I am assuming that I need to get some patches etc. There seems to be a bunch and I din't exactly know where to start.Could someone point me in the direction of a Mac friendly up to date way of upgrading Fly 2?I honestly don't know which patches and updates and in which order. Thanks very much.Grant W

I remeber when I used the first incarnation of this program Fly!After much tweeking I was able to get great frame rates and really enjoyed it.I can't seem to get fly working very well in 10.2 so I want to play it in 9.2.2.I was flying around last night and was happy with the performance. I was getting 64/3-5 for a good deal of it.Every once in a while it would bog down and and give me 64/16. This seemed to be for no apparent reason. I seem to remember this in the original. The old 5fps issue!! Is this the case in Fly 2? If so, are there any settings that I can make to increase the frame rate? Thanks very much?I also dowloaded the demo of x-plane. I wish I could get that …

I just installed a ATI Radeon 7000 32MB card in my G3 desktop. Looks good.I seem to remember, though, that in this forum there was mentioned a problem with Fly! recognizing 32MB 3D cards, or using only 16MB of that.Is that correct? Is there a fix? Thanks for helping!Jorg

It's definitely Mac-friendly, right down to the boom. Sweet flying bird!

I'm on the road and frustrated that the 707 is out, finding me 2000 miles from my Mac! :-grrHave any of you tried it for Mac-compatibility? Pete S said that Jean was sure it would work, but I saw the dreaded "dll" word in the post. It opens a door.Won't be back to the Mac until Thurs PM or Friday. Take it easy on Franklin!!

Has anyone else had problems flying this aircraft? When I put on the air brakes the plane starts a steep climb. It becomes very difficult to slow down for a landing without using the brakes. Also I can't seem to land the plane on the runway, it won't stay in a straight line at a lower speed. WHen I fly the 727 for example I get a smooth approach and landing. Any advice? Does the SP fly better?Andy

1/I downloaded the 722 and wanted to install the 2nd download that fixes the ground rumble. I am unable to find the sound or world file to load the 2 icons in. Does anyone know where I can find therm.2/ On the tab bar that displays the speed and heading and altitude, the heading doesn't change. Is there a chance threr is a fix for that?3/ The vector screen (Shift M) does turn transparent. Any plans on a fix for that? Thanks!Andy

I bought a new G4 with Jaguar 10.2 (and downloaded all the security updates since) from Apple Store. I installed FlyII from the CDs, and applied the patch to have the 218 version. On launching FlyII for the first time, it quits immediately without any message.I have the Geforce 4 (with 32 megs) installed by Apple and 512 megs of RAM. All is fine except FlyII. I tentatively made a launch under Classic : no way. So what ?

Jean Sabatier's new 707-300 is/will be Mac compatible with no changes necessary. Some changes to the first release I had gotten from Jean means that it'll be a bit longer before you get your hands on it.Pete

Hi all... Having just discovered that installing Jaguar updates the OpenGL drivers within MacOS 9.2.2, I can now run Fly! II without it being a slide show! So, I have VirtualPC, and have successfully created Terrascenery for Fly2k, now I would like to populate my barren Fly! II world with some of the airports I like to fly in and out of. The problem is that TerraModels tells me that it wants to access the Fly! II executable, which being a Mac user, I don't have. For those of you who have made TerraModels scenery under VirtualPC, how did you do it?---John R.
