FLY for Mac Users Forum
If you are a Macintosh owner and use FLY, then this is the forum for you!
Lake Tahoe September, 2002 |
This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Upgraded this morning and it seems to be running well. Unfortunately, I forgot to take Fly II benchmarks before updating, but I feel I am seeing an incremental* gain in peformance. Has anyone else checked the "before and after?"According to the docs. CarbonLib 1.6 is for OS 8.6 through 9.X.*small but noticeable if I squint just so! Maybe it's wishful thinking.

Just picked up a copy of Fly!II and upgraded my new G4 800 mhz tower to 512 meg of ram. With a Radeon 7500 32 meg card I find the frame rate a little low, even with scenery details on lower settings. My question is, will upgrading the ram to 1 ghz, which I was going to do anyway, improve Fly!II or is a 64 meg graphic card the way to go?

I am new to this so please bear with me. I am trying to paint some new liverys for various aircraft in Fly II. I followed the instructions recived in regards to John Wimbush's post (Topic #83) regarding unpoding and poding. I have no problems unpoding using the editor, but when I try to repod from a response file, one of two things happens. Most often Fly II simply crashes to the desktop (error type 2). This happens both in OS 9 and OS X. The second possibility is that I get an alert message saying such and such a file cannot be opened, and Fly II crashes to the desktop. I have tried using the file manager to check to see if all of a pods files are on the local dis…

Just bought FLY!2. The first one (the original FLY!) ran "ok" about 20 FPS with my old 32mb Radeon card. Now I have an 8500 Mac Edition (64mb). I have a G4 dual 450 with 768mb Ram.In OSX the graphic settings show my card as the ATI Radeon 8500 like it should (I set Ram to More than 32mb). Had to apply the update patch to get it to run (it would quit when reading the HID stuff according to the crash log). The update fixed it though and started up fine from there. In OS9 it detects the graphics card as an ATI 3DRage (huh?). No other choices. In cockpit view (with just the top 3 of the main 6 six guages visible in the trainer plane), rolling down the runway, I was gettin…

Hello everyone. Glad to see some of the testers still around. I've not run Fly II in several months due to family health problems and some nasty System problems that I finally worked out in OS 9.2.2 and 8.6. Except for Fly II it seems!I had to remove almost 40 extensions to get both Systems stable again. I have no idea what I did to cause Fly II to run literally one frame every 5 seconds. Even mouse clicks are that slow. Starting the engine takes almost a minute for it to catch. What gets me is that both Systems are doing the same thing with Fly II. I didn't touch a thing in the Fly II folder, so it can't be that. Anyone have any ideas where to start trying to figure this…

Im curious to know why this forum seems to have lost its appeal. There seems to be very little interest in development. There appears to be hardly any sharing of info or data between us.And even the FLY2k development and discussions seems to have dried up.WHY is this??are you waiting on Rich's patch for FLYII?do you feel rejected by TRI or APPLE for lack of support?or have you gone to pastures NEW because FLYII is un playable?Im interested in your views if you don't discuss such matters, then how do you expect to have them resolved.Regards John

How do I set up USB Pro Pedals in Fly! 2K? I am confused about which axis to set up as rudder? The forward and back motion shows up as the Y axis, yet I can not select rudder for the z Axis in the control set up. "Rudder" only shows up as a choice in the X/Y axis.Any help would be greatly appreciated. Hi all,I was just curious about some difference between Fly! II and X-Plane 6.x. So I have some questions in hope someone can answer these for me.- Why are the scenery files of X-Plane mutch smaller than Fly! II? I saw some screen shots of X-Plane and they look rather good.- Why is X-Plane in OSX and OS 9 mutch faster than Fly! II. Is this becouse of the scenery?- Why shouldn't I buy X-Plane?Let me know.ThanksKoen :)

I have a very strange set up and need a mac guru to help!I have been using a logitech wingman extreme stick with great results on fly2k. It is originally a gameport model but came with a simple gameport to usb adapter that allows input sprockets to see it and work flawlessly. I now bought a CH pro rudder pedal set which is also game port. The wingman now plugs into the gameport plug on the rudder pedals and the output of the new combined system (which is gameport) goes to the gameport-to-usb adapter and then to the mac. Fly still just sees the wingman and does not recognize the rudders at all. Any ideas?? Thanks!Ben

Is anyone aware of a utility that will allow us MAC guys to UNPOD and POD. Ive searched the forums and found a post on PODVIEW, but I can't find it anywhere in the library. (so i don't know if its PC or MAC based). If it is PC based (as they usually are) is there anyway it can be convereted for Mac use, because the way I see it if we cannot get into the POD files, then MAC development is history!.Thanks for any infoJohn

I've posted the America West repaint up on the AVSIM server. Would someone be so kind as to download it and see if I'am correct about the RGB/Indexed issue? You'll need to have the Lufthansa/AirOne 737 installed, but you should be able to see the America West without problem. Let me know how successful you are at seeing the repaint. Thanks,Pete

I spent a good part of Friday installing, testing and, yes, debugging a Sonnet Encore G3/500 ZIF upgrade in my beloved beige G3. Going from 300 to 500 is a 60 percent "speed increase." Installation was a snap but I'm still fighting a couple of stability issues. Before making the change, I benchmarked a lot of the programs I have. Just about everything showed improvment, including Fly2K (not yet 100 percent stable with the new ZIF so I'm still testing it). In 2K, external rates that were 22-24 rose to 30+, and cockpit rates are over 10 for the first time ever.Descent 3 Open GL nearly doubled rates, and Falcon 4 in-cockpit rates went from 12-14 before to 18+ after. So it goe…
