FLY for Mac Users Forum
If you are a Macintosh owner and use FLY, then this is the forum for you!
Lake Tahoe September, 2002 |
This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hi Rich............(hope your OK!)When you complete the rework and update for the MAC Patch your working on, will the FLYII(Mac version) be re-issued for the MAC or do you intend just updating the exsisting MAC version. The reason I ask Rich is that many people here in the FLY community (of little old England) cannot get a copy of the Original Mac version.... (it was withdrawn from sales before it was even on the shelf). So, my concern is that unless its re-issuedas a NEW package or the original Version is allowed back on sale here in Europe many of us which presently use Fly2k will not be able to benefit from all your hard work.Regards JohnDC10 projectB737-500

Which, if any, are the aircraft in Fly! 2k that manual mixture to be ON? Especifically, do the PMDG aircraft need Manual Mixture on or off? Thanks in advance to anybody who replies.

I'm leaving in the morning (7/2) for a vacation trip to Colorado. Whether I can "lurk" depends on how much access I have to my sister's computer (one computer--eight users). I'll be back on the 10th.If any fistfights break out, you'll have to answer to Franklin!Fly 'em if you've got 'em,

I have one of the new Titanium 800 MHz PowerBooks with the 1280x854 displays and 32 MB of video RAM. Anyway really great machines but...I installed Fly II (Build 216 out of the box it looks like from the Settings Screen splash at the bottom of the pop up) under MacOS X 10.1.5. It starts up running full screen and I can't get the menu bar to display, at all. According to the PDF using the bar is supposed to bring up the menu bar if hidden. No dice. All I can do is blunder around trying various key strokes which isn't much fun.Has anyone successfully run Fly II on a Titanium under OS X? If so did you do anything special? I tried the HID update but I'm not even trying to us…

Ok, I've been off Fly! for awhile since I went to OS X on a iBook. But now that I got a Cube, I think I can run Fly!2 safely. Problems.Need to try to find the patch for OS X.1. Need to get some really good add-ons. Prefer GA, but also want a couple of airliners, such as perhaps a 727, 737, maybe a MD80/DC9. I'd love an L1011, but I doubt there are any of those out. Really want a 727 because I have a operating manual for parts of it :).Also are there any good Lears, Gulfstreams, Aerocommanders? I know that there was one for Fly!2k, (barts?) a 580 I think, I'd like to see a 900 or 1000 TurbineCommander. Anyway I'll look through the file section, and any links here would be …

Ok folks,The "quick" update is that development hardware has been arranged, and should be arriving shortly. It looks like I'll have it long enough to do quite a few things, specifically bringing the Mac up to version 230 (actually, a little past that since my code base has been changing) and tackling some frame rate issues. If you ever wanted to give yourselves a pat on the back, here is your chance because it was specifically due to the constructive feedback and concerns here on the board that got the attention of some very special folks (who will go unnamed for now until I get their permission to give them public credit). Your voices ARE being heard both at the publishi…

Hi Guys, Ive been using BBedit lite for almost a year now (problem free)...... however today, for some reason it has crashed my system (O/S9.02) continuously. I thought I'd ask you about it because I've noticed a small greyed-out symbol (rather like the face of a Rubix cube) in the top left corner of the BBedit window. Its just before the no. of items display. Ive reloaded BBedit Lite several times including new downloads but to no avail.....any ideas what the symbol is or what may be causing it to crash. Thanks for any help/guidanceJohnDC-10 ProjectB737-500 Project

I think C4TO/Fly!Scripts might be crashing my computer. I have been experiencing crashes on just about every flight since I installed these two add-ons. I usually receive a message that says "Unmapped memory exception." I would only get this error once in a while before I installed the add-ons. Has anyone else had problems with these add-ons? What could be causing this? Any advice is welcome. ;(8 My box specs:Ruby iMac 400MHz slot loader384mb RAMATI Rage Pro 128MacOS 9.2.2/10.1.4Fly!2K patched up to SDK level-Greg :-spam1 :-zhelp

Greetings to all on this Friday.I am currently running the old-fashioned Fly!2K on my iMac. Here's the situation: I want to add an ILS localizer (??) to a particular airport which has none (I hate crashing on landing and can't seem to visually line up with the runway and would like to have a glideslope to follow also).Simply, I'm sure this can be done, but I just can't figure out how. Is there someone in this forum who has any idea? I'd sure love to hear from you.John BauderFly!2K MAC [email protected] Springs, California, USA

Today www.macgadget.de announced that the German Edition of Fly 2 has been cancelled definitely by "Application Systems Heidelberg" due to the poor fps especially on OSX.They say they tried to get the source code to improve the game, but without success. At the same time www.macgadget.de tells us that a new technique called "Dynamite" has been shown at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in Los Angeles which helps to take Windows games to the Mac platform much faster and easier then before.http://www.transgaming.com/news.php?newsid=37Here are the news:Los Angeles, Ca. Hey Mac Fly! Users;About a week ago, I completely cleared out both my HD's, and I've been my computer back to date sinse. I've basically got all my appps back, and some of my games. Yesterday, I completely finished bringing Fly! 2k back to life (All the scenery and Aircraft and DEX files are very tedious) Now, today I got to Fly! II, and I realized that I never got to really enjoy it, or have any fun with it. I was wondering, what are you Mac users out there adding to this game to make it worthwhile while we wait for Rich's patch? I know about the DC9 and the 727, but I'm not sure what sky to use, or what cloud sets to add. So, if anybody out there feels like they can hel…

I posted a note to ROTW in the Main Forum regarding the above aircraft. Their web site has, for some time, stated that the Mac version will be ready in a few days. I asked how it was going.Rene responded that they are progressing slowly on converting the dll's for the Mac. If anyone has experience with this type of programming, It sounds like ROTW could use some assistance, even though they have some Mac people aboard. Here's the link to this short thread:http://ftp.avsim.com/cgi-bin/dcforum/dcboa...rum=DCForumID14

Well as I expected, the honeymoon is over. I knew going over to the darkside was fraught with perils but I undertook this journey thinking, "How bad could it be?"I can see the beginings of another system reinstall. I cannot get Frankenstein to shutdown and now I cannot get it to awaken from sleep. I've delved into the mysteries of the dreaded 'bios' and I can tell you, be thankful you don't need to know such terrible things. There are an amazing number of settings to screw-up and I'am sure I've done that, causing Frankenstein to become recaltritant. I've also discovered that I cannot install software as an administrator and have other's with limited access use the…

Hey everyone, how's things in the TRI simming world? Hi Rich, Hi Rob, Hi Franklin...BTW, as some of you may know, I nearly lost it in the beautiful Ohio River Valley :( While doing some work for DOT up on the East River Rd., I got clipped by the mirror of a fully loaded F-350 going 40 mph thru a work zone...At 248 lbs, it spun me like a helo blade. My left lower leg was turned around backwards...funny thing, I didn't feel the impact. Tried to stand up & bones were sticking thru my Levi's...Anyway, 3 surgeries &18 months later, I'm walking again (on my own)...with the damage to my left angle, my PPL could be in jeopardy, but hey that's what atty's are for.Lived…

I am trying to extract a .pod file using the file manager. However, the dialog window does not accurately represent the current directory as it is stated at the top of the window. It simply lists the directories that it expects to be in the Fly! II folder, no matter what the current directory contains. I tried running Fly! II in both Mac OS 9.2 and Mac OS X, with similar results.

Hello everybodytoday I wanted to install the maps for France ROTW is offering on their website www.simvol.org/fly. To my big surprise Fly!2 just refused to start. As soon as I deleted the maps, everything worked fine again. Did somebody have the same problems. As I'm not sure if this is only a Mac problem, I placed this post on the general forum as well.Max
