Lake Tahoe September, 2002 |
This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

Hello and happy holidays to all,I'm new to Fly2!, having had it up to my ears with Xplane glitches and wanting to try something more stable and visually realistic. Just getting my feet wet so far, but am generally impressed with Fly2. Anyway, my first specific problem... I'm trying to load the TBM 700 from the French development group, having seen that their Pipers are great. But when I try to select the aircraft, I get the error message "Subsytem is not registered (tbmf)" and the program quits. I've tried to load the three dll's in various places, thinking that was the problem, but no change. Anyone else run into this and know a fix? I'm running a dual processor G4 on …

Hi All,The manual says pressing the space bar will temporarily tun off the menu bar at the top of the window, but this doesn't seem to work for me. I checked the key mapping and it is correctly mapped to the space bar (then tried to change the mapping to another key, still no luck). Is this a feature that works on Macs, or just PCs?Joel

Hello All,I've seen a few people recommend the SOCAL scenery package. I was wondering, how does it compare to the Los Angeles textures that come standard with FLY2? Those already seem to be pretty good, though missing a real coastline/beach.Best,Joel

I'm new to Fly2, and was under the impression that the night sky was supposed to feature stars, even constellations tuned to your location and date. Mine is pitch black, save for the moon.Is there a setting for stars that I'm missing? I use the "skyfire" sky color modification, but I don't imagine that should effect this issue. running an Nvidia Geforce4ti with 128mb on it, so it shouldn't be a video card memory problem.Any help would be appreciated, thanks!Best,Joel

I got an 800Mhz iMac Flat Panel a few months ago. My problem is that I'm getting unusable frame rates. In the cockpit the FPS never reads above or below 4.0fps. My guess is that the lowest the framerate it will show is 4.0 because I'm getting real frame rates around 2fps. Plus the sky looks very pixelated. It's almost as if the software isn't recognizing my GeForce2 video card although the startup splash shows it correctly. I've tried reinstalling to no avail. I've also installed the 240 patch.Another issue I have is that I can't seem to bring up the pull down menus from the top of the screen. Anyone else having this problem? I'm running 10.1.5 of the OS X.Thank…

Hello All,I noticed something that may or may not be a problem, but thought I would ask. I'm using the Apple 17" flat panel, which runs natively at a resolution of 1280x1024. Fly2 automatically switches the screen to its native 1024x768 when it starts up.The guages on all the panels are slightly "squished", ellipses rather than circles (a bit taller than they are wide). I first thought this might be intentional, a bit of perspective or something, but then I looked at the pics in the manual and all guages seem perfectly round. The startup screen "fuel" guage is also like this. Makes no difference if I switch the res to 1024x768 before starting up.Has anyone else noticed t…

After too many years of using a 15" Apple MS-AV monitor, yesterday we bought a 19" NEC MS97F for the beige G3. Flat face CRT design. This thing is awesome, and very Mac-friendly. It did the plug-and-play thing pefectly and it "plays well" with the Energy Saver CP. It takes up only slightly more desk space than the old 15'"My eyes aren't getting any better as I experience the "mid-50s." Now I can fly at 10x7 and read all the gauges!!

I've attached a few pics of the graphics problem that I'm having with the new patch. Hopefully, once the holidays are over, someone from the FLY! community or the beta team can help me with a quick fix.I haven't had any problems prior to the patch and I noticed that the new Render.ini is a bit different from the old version. Thanks,Peter

Does anyone know if there is a patch to get Fly ! 2K to work either in Mac OS X or in classic OS?If not, is there an upgrade to Fly ! 2?Or can anyone explain to me why terminal velocity or gathering of developers or take 2 games refuses to take any responsiblity to help correct this situation?

Hopefully someone can help me with an error that I've never seen before. Recently, I tried switching from the Flyhawk aircraft to the Hawker while inflight and I was prompted with the error message - "guage error".I tried switching aircraft while on the ground and with different aircraft and I'm getting the same error message. Luckily I like to fly the Cessena the most so it's not a huge deal. However, could someone let me know what the minimum aircraft folder requires? I did do some "house cleaning" of my FLY! aircraft file and now I'm wondering if I moved something that I wasn't suppose to.Here's a few pics of some recent flying. . .Thanks,Peter

Both my father and I have reinstalled Fly! on his 300Mhz iBook over a half dozen times. He has 150MB physical RAM and 4MB VRAM, which, according to the instructions, should be enough. We have tried every extension configuration imaginable.Yet, everytime we try to launch the app, The System (9.1) locks up on the second screen. Now, I have noticed that their instructions say set VM to 1 MB. Do they mean literally? I know VM is supposed to be set 1MB above your physical RAM but I can't for the life of me figure out what 1MB of VM would accomplish. When we contacted the manufacturer they only e-mailed us a copy of this site's troubleshooting guide.Any ideas?Petrie

I tried the new and attractive transparent window mod from ROTW this morning. Although it did not crash or otherwise make the sim go walkabout, it was not functioning properly. The mod is a replacement ui.pod file that goes in FlyII's system folder. When I started, the opening graphics box was transparent and quite handsome. I continued the loading process. The choice box at the "spinning aircraft" window was not transparent. Then I opened another window and the previous box texture and letters was under the new one. Every window I opened added another layer. Eventually, it was illegible. The effect was that of printing the windows on clear acetate sheets and stacking them …
