FLY for Mac Users Forum
If you are a Macintosh owner and use FLY, then this is the forum for you!
Lake Tahoe September, 2002 |
This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.
At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.
Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"
Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."
We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums! |

I'm understand that Fly2K will run only if I boot using OS 9. However OS 10.3.9 does not allow booting using OS 9 even though OS 9 is present for my classic applications. Does anyone know of a solution for getting me back in the air? Thanks in advance for any help.

Please help.I have an iBook G4 with 10.3.9.I have a new Fly! 2k programme which I have downloaded on to my Mac, and I have a 10.1 patch, also downloaded. But, even with the help of a friend, I have not been able to activate the patch so that it enables the operation of Fly! 2k.I am of the older generation that is still struggling with the mechanics of computing, and would greatly appreciate help in getting the Fly! 2k 'off the ground', so to speak. Thanks,David J Weston,Stranraer,Scotland DG9 8BN(44)1776 70 3456

Hello! After a long pause I try to come back to Fly!2 as I have a G5 Dual 1.8 now. Working with a Joystick (Logitech Extreme 3D Pro) is no problem, but I can't get my CH-Flight Sim Yoke working. Somewhere I've read that it isn't possible any more with Fly!2 and OS 10.3. Does a MacUser in this forum know more about it?Thank you for your help!Max

It's been awhile since I have been here. I use FLY II for the MAC. I came looking for new planes today and it seems like eevrything has been removed. Is there a new spot? ALso is there now a better sim to use with MAC OS9 or OS10?

...at least for Fly! I upgraded to the new PCI Radeon Mac Edition 128MB card recently. The card is doing its job in OSX--X-Plane now runs at higher settings without a rate hit.The problem is two-fold:a) Fly has never worked right from me in OSX--poor rates and little flightstick control:( the Radeon 9200 does not work in OS9 in spite of ATI's claims to the contrary.I had hoped that the massive VRAM of the 9200 would help Fly!, but the lack of OS9 support won;t let me try it. I've spent most of my time in X=Plane, which plays quite nicely with OSX.Thought you would like to know. The most significant system-wide issue with the new card is that its driver set slowed my 2D pe…

As a second to Laurent's posting earlier for the Seneca, curious is anyone has the skills to port the mapper.dll which is used to enable the mixture lever on a joystick/yoke/quadrant over for use as a condition lever on the turboprops. This PC dll has been a real boost to flying realism with the turboprop models and should be available for the Mac as well.Zane

Hello,I am helping my father set up his iMac 600 SE after a harddrive meltdown. He just got it back with a new hard drive and newly loaded OS X (not sure the specific version). I have reloaded FlyII and the .240 patch. It has to be a newer version of OS X cause it will now work in X but the frame rates are awful. I get it running in 9.1 but despite having settings for clear weather it looks like ground fog cause you can basically just see the runway or taxiway beneath you, if you take off you can see a small amount of hazy ground directly underneath, every thing else is white. Don't know how to fix this, any ideas?Zane

My thanks to all involved in bringing this aircraft to the minority of Fly II buffs using Macs. A beautiful aircraft. Thanks for thinking of us.Mike

Hi all,The seneca will be released in this very next days ... and one more time we used a lot of PC dll ... don't blame me, they really add some nice features to the plane.I think we could prepare a plane without those dll for the Mac users, but it would be great if anyone would port the code into Mac dlls.I belive that four or five very simple dll could be ported easily because they are really simple. A couple of dll are conversely much complicated (navigation display for instance) and we can simply remove them without any modification of the plane.Anyone interested with this porting ?Let me know if any, and I'll send the code ...Cheers,laurentC (rotw)

How do I reload my "FLY2K" on my Macintosh either under OS10.2 or the "Classic" OS9.2? Reloading was successful but when opening the game I get an error message that the game is NOT supported by the "Classic" OS! Can anyone explain or help me regain use of this sim? ? ?

Can anyone suggest a way of getting my hands on the PMDG planes for Mac and Fly2k?PMDG are unwilling to sell them to me. I lost them in a crash (so to speak). What's a fellow to do?
-
Ok here's the story, a while back I lost my entire Fly! folder. Luckily I backuped my PMDG planes but I lost everything else. Now here's the kicker, I cannot find the necessary patches to patch a retail version of Fly!, the first retail release in the blue box, up to the standard where I can fly custom aircraft. So, I was wondering anybody knew where to get the necessary patches or if someone would be willing to sell a spare retail copy of Fly! 2K to me. I've looked everywhere, AVSIM doesn't have the patches so I don't know. And Ebay doesn't seem to have a Mac version of Fly 2K for sale.-G3

Hi folks! Long time no see!I don't use Fly! II yet, but maybe I will if i get a second hand rage 128 or a newer Mac.I've heard that it's possible to import FS2002 scenery to Fly!. Is that correct? If so, what's the procedure and is it possible for Mac's?

Mac Users, you will not be forgotten...We have good news and bad news...The good news is that we have added a patch specially for you.The bad news is that you will not be able to use the animated wipers, doors, steps, searchlight and the keyboard control for the landing gear.Having said this, is someone is willing to build a DLL for Mac, we will gladly share the source code with you.You can download the helicopter and the patch at www.f2fdesign.comEnjoy!http://www.avsim.com/hangar/fly/dfdg/banneraa.jpg

Yes, I'm still flying the same old Beige G3. As you know, I've spent most of my air time in X-Plane since upgrading to OSX. I gave up on solving the Fly! II control device problems under X and, frankly, can't remember the last time I booted into OS9.A few weeks ago, the GPU cooling fan on my Radeon started making ominous noises so I had it out for a few days. To keeping using X-Plane and some other apps that need more hardware acceleration than the on-board ATI Rage 64 chipset can provide, I reinstalled my old ATI Rage Orion 16MB vidcard while working out the problems with the Radeon fan.I used the Orion for beta-testing FlyII and until about 14 months ago, when I scored …

I just installed a copy of fly II on my Mac. I had it in an unopened box for a while. I upgraded it to work on Panther. The manual lists an included aircraft "kodiak" which I see in the Piper Navajo. However my list of aircraft does not include this aircraft nor can I find the aircraft file in the aircraft folder. How do I get the appropriate aircraft file for this (supposedly included) aircraft?
