September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

Well, it's true. Not only have I started using a PC-based simulator, it's not Fly.I decided to get Elite Version 7 for the PC. While the scenery is nothing like what FlyII offers, the IFR simulation is much better. It has a bunch of features and I'm still exploring. The GPS simulation is excellent and that alone was worth the price of admission. There are a variety of GPS units to choose from and you can load and execute actual GPS approaches, too. I occasionally have access to a 172 with an Apollo GX60, so Elite will let me learn how to use the unit before I get in the plane (saving me a lot of $ in the process).Elite's map feature is very handy for practicing appr…

Hey everyone,My wife finally got out of the house and away from her new flat panel iMac long enough for me to test out FlyII on it.The short answer: under MacOS 9.2.2, FlyII produced FPS on the iMac were about the same as on my G4/450 with the stock ATI Rage card. The screen seemed a little smoother, but that was purely subjective. The frame rates in the Flyhawk, with complex scenery turned on, building and aircraft shadown turned off, was 3 to 8 FPS, depending on altitude.Hardware Configuration700MHz PowerPC G4256K L2 cache @ 700 MHz512MB SDRAMOperating SystemMacOS 9.2.2FlyII version - 2.0.216FlyII assigned 350 Mb memoryGraphics Options:Rendering: OpenGLGeforce MX/AGP…

This was mailed as a responce to Jim's post on the OLD forum.Hi Jim,.....not sure if this is practicle, but how about writing a couple of paragraphs highlighting the unique opportinity, Apple have in capturing a sector of the gaming market and of course how dissatisfied we are with the lack of support. Followed by a list of names and country of origin (Important to highlight the fact its a global concern). Hopefully if we can generate enough interest and concern......and possibly a little help from our PC friends??.... we should be able to saturate Apples various Sites by emailing the listings. If we can send the listings to as many Apple addresses as possible, its bound …

I know....this is a Fly! Forum, but in the old days, F/A-18 got me hot on sims. I'm up to 3.0 and the Korea 1 version. Found a recently released update in beta on www.versiontracker.com that adds better texturing and volumetric clouds at low to medium altitudes. What I've enjoyed is the improved external views and the more realistic behavoir of wounded planes. Give 'em a good whack and they go into a flat spin. Off course, the same thing happens if the bad guys whack you!Being beta, there are still a few minor bugs, but it looks like a decent improvement.

I know mac bashing has become popular here in the last months for a number of reasons and I do not want to make this board into that alone. I have found a great deal of help here that has allowed me to enjoy Fly 2k a great deal!! In any case, these discussions have started me thinking about our attachment to Apple and I think this is a time we should look seriously at our loyalty (aside from the sim side of things). I have been with Apple since the Apple II plus and have been about as vocal about my devotion as anyone. In the past, I have been able to take on ANY PC discussion and crush it with a far better computer and computer company. I would seek these con…

Hi all,I'm curious to know if any other Mac users have experimented with using two monitors to play Fly II. I have a G4/400 2x AGP machine and I've tried using the standard Apple ATI 16 meg Rage 128 cards (one in the PCI slot the other in AGP) with little success. Various inquiries to GODGAMES and Infogrames techsupport have revealed that two displays are likely not supported, but I've been given no definitive answer. Anyone tried the new Radeon 7000 with two display's? FYI, I've been using the Bell Sim with pedals, throtle, joystick - I had a buddy who is an CFI (R22, R44, Jet Ranger) come test my configuration and he reported that the Sim is quite credible. Althoug…

I posted this in the General Forum: Until now we have always asked Rich/TRI for improving the Mac version of fly! If I understand well the post of Rich, Apple could help in a substantial way to make FlyII for Mac much better ....Why do we not join together and confront Apple with these facts? They boast themselves about Fly!II, - why not tell them what we Mac Users think about it and ask them for real help, not only publicity?- By the way, I can't afford to buy a G4 for Rich, but I could contribute to it if other MacUsers would join ..smilie(':)')Max

I had lunch with Eric a couple of times a few years ago, and he showed us some of his development tools while he was working on Screamin Demons. To this day I still encourage people to give A-10 Cuba a try; I saw a new boxed copy at GameStop the other day for $5. That's got to be the most underrated flight sim ever produced.Any ideas what he's doing these days?Rich

Hi Mac usersI would like to buy a Ati Radeon 7500 DDram 64 Mo graphic card or even a 8500 128 Mo or a nVidia GeForce 4 Ti for my G4 but I can't find these products for Mac in France, only for PC.I believe that I have no AGP slot... only PCI slots but I'm not sure...because my G4 / 400 Mhz is the first G4....Could you tell me where I could find one in Usa ? with international shipping.Thank you very much.I'm tired to have a poor number of fps with my 16 Mo Rage....Christian PetersFrench PyreneesG4/400Ati Radeon Rage Pro 16 Mo1Go sdramFly!2k & Fly!II
