September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

So now with 10.2, FlyII gives me a menu bar and seems quicker, but I can't get it to use my joystick (Cyborg 3D USB) for flight controls. The program sees the stick, and the buttons and hat switch work but nada on the axis. Help!!Vern

It seems that after 3 or 4 hours in the air the 747-300 develops electrical problems and low oil pressure. I have no idea to fix it so I switch to another 747 in the middle of a flight. Doesn't anyone have any ideas?Andy

We still have my daughter's new eMac here as we needed the long weekend to finish setting it up before moving it to her dorm. As you can suspect, I found the Fly II Installation CD :DThe computer (shipped on 8-23) came with 10.1.4 but had the Jag disks packed with it. Upgraded almost immediately. Nice bit of kit altogether. The only Fly files I loaded were the Fly CD1 and the HID patch for OSX. Interesting--when I double-click the patch folder to see what's in it, it launches Fly. Do this from OS9 and you can see it has contents. On regular launching, the graphics set-up box recognized the nVidea GF2 card correctly. I used 1024x768x32x32.Did my old "we don't need no stinkin…

I have had a great time flying this aircraft. My only problem is landing. Even in a 0 wind situation below 1000 feet it's very difficult to get this bird centered on the runway. It seems to have a habit of wanting to land anywhere but the runway. The closer I get to the ground the more difficult it is to control horizontally and veritacally.Any Suggestions?Andy

    a) did it run and the joystick work under 10.1.5:( if not, have you installed the OSX patch at http://www.ina-support.com/faq/fly2downloads_mac.asp ?It consists of an updated HID Manager Support Bundle, as I recall.Just a thought.

...something I thought would never happen given my limited processing power and vidcard.Did a nice LAX > ORD hop today in the new 747-300 at FL360, the highest I've attempted. Went to an exterior view and there were the contrails.

Does anyone out there run Fly 2K using the G4 I-Mac? What performance are you getting? Does it even work with OS 9.2? I enjoy reasonable success using my current setup on Fly 2K with the Rob Young models and C4TO, but the new G4 I-Mac sure looks attractive. I just finished installing 10.2 on my Mac and ran Fly! II... definitely much better than before. I'm getting performance in the 10-15 or 20 FPS range consistently. (Unfortunately, I can no longer print to my HP PSC 950 - you win some, you lose some. :))-Franklin------------------------------Franklin TesslerDP 800Fly! for Mac Co-moderator
