Richard Harvey

Lake Tahoe

September, 2002

This forum and all others related to the FLY series of flight simulator, are dedicated to the memory of Richard Harvey - the lead designer for Terminal Reality's Fly.

At the AVSIM FANCON of 2002, Richard and his wife, Tara, attended. Richard was presented with AVSIM's Lifetime Achievement Award for his contribution to the flight simulation genre and his outstanding service and support of the FS community. Richard was a friend to many of us, and never hesitated to assist and inspire. Richard passed away the following March, 2003. He is sorely missed by his friends and those that were privileged to know him.

Richard in his last post to the forums said; "Try to stay away from things that are dark, dreary, introspective, tear jerkers, etc. Think HAPPY -- be HAPPY. If that is too much to ask, then I'll change the word HAPPY to POSITIVE. That's the flow of feeling I want rolling through my soul as I depart this earth from each of you, is absolute POSITIVE energy. Don't stall on me, I have to soar!"

Richard also passed this along to us in his last post; "******* Christ is my Lord and Savior. As my loving God and Lord has protected and guided me throughout my life, I pray he will do likewise for you and your family. May each of you achieve your dreams, and not be troubled by hardships. I pray for your good health. God will only give you as much load as you can bear, and never any more. Do not lose hope, nor certainly faith. Above all, do not fear evil, for though it surrounds us it can never hurt us. It may claim hollow victories, but it always suffers defeat."

We are proud to carry on Richard's undaunted support for his passion and his unstinting support of the user. Welcome to the Richard Harvey Memorial Fly Forums!

as we have announced after our "congress" in last december, we had decided to translate all the simvol site in english. It's a very hard task and a group of bi-linguist flyers works to help us (thanks Jan-Paul,Michel(2), Franck, Jean-Marie, Roman). At this time we are over the middle of this project.A great numbers of pages are translated and offer to you the possibility to download add-ons which have never uploaded on other sites.Direct access to english site at this address: http://fly.simvol.org/indexus.htmHow to know if the page is translated: there is a dot at the end of its name on the left index frame.Exemple in this pic:http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/75773.jpgE…

Could someone please explain to me what the function of these COURSE digits are and how they should be used to aid navigation. I hope you understand what I me…

  13. G'day Alejandro,Have done some testing about what Pascal said re RMI's.Yes you are correct. The pilatus RMI will work backwards IF THE PILATUS IS THE DEFAULT STARTUP AIRCRAFT. ( there may be other offending aircraft ) What's more this bug is then passed on to ALL subsequent aircraft changes! The default aircraft must set certain parameters (eg DOR of pbg's or more specically the compass card of the RMI) for all aircraft that follow. Even the Cessna 172 DG card worked backwards. However if either the Flyhawk or Kodiak is the default starup aircraft, (and possibly many others - I only tested these two; unfortuately due to exceeding 55 aircraft I was unable to test the TBM70…

after a crash to the desktop?I am still puzzled as to why occasionally FLY2 will crash to the desktop unexpectedly. When I try to restart FLY2, I get the "can't find valid video mode" error. The only clue that there's a video mode missing after FLY2 has crashed is that when I click the right mouse button on the desktop to access the "properties", all the text is grayed out.The only way to restore it is to reboot the computer. I've searched for clues on video drivers, video card related issues, WIn98 issues, and FLY2 issues. Yet, since it happens only with FLY2, I have not been able to make any progress. So far, these are my theories:1. FLY2 does not like Antialising2. FLY…
