Greetings!Long-time FS user, but total noob to scenery creation ...Is it possible to use an edited digital photograph to create a scenery object that can be placed at a specific location in FSX, to be viewed from a specific angle on the ground?I'll explain: Let's say that I create a private airstrip in an otherwise featureless area of scenery. I'll say that this airstrip is on property that I own in rural Colorado. Near one end of the runway, I want to place a building, and this building is the house that I built on the property. I have a good photo of the house, and I know how to use PhotoShop to remove all the background stuff from this photo, leaving only the actu…

I have asked this before but there may be someone who has a viable answer.I want to either alter the trigger (degrees of angle) that causes an alternate texture to be substituted within a displayed texture. Presently tree textures appear within farm fields on even small slopes. While this might be somewhat tolerable the inserted tree areas are usually some geometric zig-zag pattern that is far from reality. This detracts from the very nice hi-res FSX textures. I would like to either change the degree of slope that causes this alternate texture insertion or change the texture that is inserted. I believe that this function is numerically encoded within the ICLOOKUP.BGL. As …

Problem: For a southern Rocky Mountain project in FSX, how to create a landclass poly fill with say 90% aspen, 10% conifer autogen vegetation. The default poly fills with mixed evergreendeciduous all seem to use larch trees. While these give the correct Fall coloration, the percentage is not high enough and the models do not well represent aspen, when viewed in the texture dds files. As very nice aspen models do exist, one option would be to use the Autogen Annotator to change the vegetation mix in one of the default poly fills. However, this would mess things up everywhere else that fill is used, such as in the northwest where larch is appropriate. The ideal solution wou…

It is somewhat disappointing to notice that despite the fact that FSX now knows that the Earth is a sphere (or ellipsoid even) and properly handles this for many aspects, there are still obvious problems in other aspects.Using some airplane as a yardstick (landing it on a road and driving around a bit), it is plain to see that at moderately extreme latitudes (like 60 deg N, where I live), the width of road segments depends very much on their orientation. The closer the road segment is to the N-S direction, the narrower it is.(My first impression is that in the E-W direction does the road width actually match the StripLineWidth value in terrain.cfg. This would be kinda log…

Hi Guys I am currently compiling about 3000 sq km of very high rez aerial photosand have cut it up into tiles of about 4 sq kmOne uncompressed geotif is about 145mb and compiles to bgl aprox 6o mbmy inf settings are[source]Type = GeoTIFFSourceDir = "SourceData"SourceFile = "104.TIF"Layer = ImageryVariation = DayNullValue = 255,255,255[Destination]DestDir = "Output"DestBaseFileName = "104"DestFileType = BGLLOD = AutoSince I have done a test run compiling it all I get 242 bgls covering the 3000 sq km and a resulting 12 gigs of bglsI don't mind how many bgls are made but…

Hi All,I have over the past month or so been compiling a scenery that covers the area shown in the photo below coming from imagery from one of the online mapping sources... My initial intent was to keep it for personal use, however I have since wanted to share it with the rest of the community. So the question now becomes, is it legal to do so? Not sure if this has any bearing on the situation, but if it was to be released it would have been free of charge.Any comments or input would be appreciated!Xavierhttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/178089.jpg

HI. I have the tutorial "Making_scenery_with_Object_Placement_Tool" and can use the tool somewhat. My problem is that when I open the Object Placement Tool in FSX full screen I get the Object Placement Tool window which I cannot move. It obliterates the area that I want to add an object. I do not get any green cross-hairs either. How can I move the window and how can I see the cross-hairs? I have been able to add scenery but it has been by trial and error. Without actually seeing the scenery object it is hard to place the object and to size and rotate it. Thanks, best regards, Bob.

I've never purchased FSDS - done my scenery work in GMax in the past. I find the work involved for FSX is just too much for the little bit of scenery I make. How are users finding FSDS v3.5 to be with FSX things such as night textures, attaching effects, etc? I just haven't read much on any of the forums about how people are reacting to v3.5. Any input is appreciated.ThanksPaul Dahlen

Does anyone have any familiarity with Whisplacer 0.6 for placing scenery objects in FSX. It works GREAT except there is no tutorial or help file. I have written to the author but have not heard from him. I cannot connect to FSX. I get an error "Cannot assign requested address:connect". I went into the Connection Properties and all I see is Host: 127.0.1, Port: -1. I see no way to point it to FSX. Thanks, regards, Bob.

Hi all,I have several animated parts that look fine in GMAX, but the synchronisation is all off in FS9... it seems as if they are starting all at random keyframes (instead at keyframe 0) and are running at slightly different speeds. All animations are Bezier Position Type... Any ideas how to get them to move "all together"?

Hi,I'm working on an update for my Puerto Rico project and I have a question for the experts. I'm trying to redo the entire shoreline of the island but the shapefile that I have contains a collection of "outer polygons" that represents the sea...so one can imply that a side of a polygon could be considered a shoreline. If you look at the picture, the gray areas are the outer polygons.http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/178037.jpgThe question is, is there an util or program that can facilitate the creation of the inner polygon without having to plot it by hand? Thanks to Luis for his excellent tutorial document! I was able to add sandy beaches to PR!Regards,Juan

I apologize if this is not the correct forum for this question, but how do I correct an error in the elevation of a default airport. The airport in question is Ban Houeisay (VLHS) in Laos. It seems when Microsoft made this airport for FS9, the designer misread the elevation data as 420 FEET instead of 420 METERS. How do I fix this? All I want to do is fix the elevation for this particular airport, I do want to have to spend hours learning about scenery design for something I'll never do again. So a quick and dirty solution is what I'm looking for. Thanks in advance!

Hey guys, I have some doors keyframed for an "aircraft", but on the scenery version, I'm not sure how I can trigger them in FSX.http://i91.photobucket.com/albums/k282/Ben...nterprise55.jpgBasically, I'd like a "visitor" to the scenery to trigger an animation. How can I do that for FSX?Thanks for any suggestions.

I recently purchased FSDS V3.5. Is there a way to add more points to boxes. When I create a box there are 8 points for the box but I want to design a building that is more complex than a normal box and I need more than 8 points on the box to manipulate the shape of the building I want to create since it's not really going to be box shaped.

Hi folks,This seems about the most appropriate forum for this inquiry. I am hoping to find information about how I can change the default grass textures for airports in FSX. Specifically, 3D grass like that in the FS2004 FlightScenery Portland release is preferred. Is this a particular texture file or a group of texture files? I have downloaded a "detail1.bmp" upgrade here at Avsim, but this just doesn't have the appearance I was hoping for. Whatever the third party developers are doing with scenery these days is quite amazing, and I would like to think that this can be incorporated into default FSX airports. (I hope!) If there is a payware product out there that accompli…

Airport Design Editor is a tool to create, modify or enahnce FSX airports. It has been a work in progress for a number of months. Although still incomplete we have set up a dedicated web site at http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk.There is a new version of ADE that can be downloaded if you wish to try it out. Please be aware that ADE is not as far developed as FSX Planner or AFX but does have much of the needed functionality.

I'm looking for a way to make a runway in FS X that is actually completely invisible in scenery and even has no flattens. For the visual part of the scenery I would use custom ground textures, mesh is so precise it already produces a flat and even airport surface, all I would like to add to this airport (and it's grass, so visible textures are really disturbing) is some code that will make it visible in airport list and in GPS and useable for AI traffic and without any visual element for runway or taxiway elements or flatten. Is something like this at all possible in FS X?

Which is the best way, from FSX performance perspective, to add true-to-reality shaped forest areas, parks, grass fields, parking lots, container yards etc?As PKX polygons in a shp2vec produced bgl file? Or as polygon regions in an agn file?I think I have a pretty good understanding of the shp2vec style vector terrain (and I have written some software to mangle a certain source of road, water etc data into form for FSX's shp2vec, and it works as expected and I am happy). The autogen (annotator) stuff is more of a mystery to me...To use the agn stuff, does that always require one has corresponding aerial/satellite imagery that will then cover landclass-based generic terrai…
