Extrusions are new to FS X. Polyline buildings, bridges, and fences are the new extrusion objects.It is easy to draw polyline buildings with the Autogen Annotator, but fences and bridges must be created with BGLComp.An extrusion fence is part of an Airport element in an xml file. Hi;As a real novice at hard core scenery design I am looking for some words of wisdom on how to move some objects in FS9.I know that you are able to edit the location (lat & lon)in an xml and compile into a bgl but am not sure how to go about this in two cases.1. At my local airport (KLKU) the beacon is misplaced considerably. With the stock scenery it didn't really matter, but after I installed UT the difference is enough to bother me (the beacon is across the highway from where it should be). (veteran newbie alert! :D )Greetings,coming back to FS9 scenery design after a loooong break, I find that I have forgotten my basics. Can someone please refresh my memory?The case: I wanted to do a trivial and quick (or so I thought) job of creating just one building (an extra hangar for Gatwick EGKK) in gmax, then exporting to XML/MDL, then converting to BGL. Very simple. it doesn't even use textures.And it actually worked out just fine.The problem is that I see the building in FS9 only when located in certain places, in others I don't. Don't know if this is the correct forum for my question but here it goes:Does anyone know if Lago is still in business? I recently purchased FSE 2004 and I am looking forward to creating awesome FS2004 sceneries. Only problem is, Lago is AWOL. They haven't sent a reg. code and I'm beginning to wonder about this company. I've sent emails to Lago and Videogames.it(merchant) but no luck.Any feedback or suggestions is appreciated.Fausto

Hi all, Ok, attached is CYSJ, and airport I'm trying to make AI traffic friendly. HELP ME!! As you can see, there's only one taxiway to runway 5. I'm guessing there no way to arrange something so a plane landing wont be waiting for a plane about to come to the hold short position. I'm guessing I'd have to make another little taxiway that goes down the runway, or is there something else? Also, runway 5 is very fare from the airport, so is there a way to activate 32-14 or evne 23 so that it doens't take so long for planes to take off?

Hi,I have created some photoscenery which has the max res of 16m/pixel. While it is considerably lower in res than FSX default, it is nevertheless 'real' showing roads and lakes in the correct place. Is there a way to force FSX to use this lower res BGL rather than its own default scenery which I believe is 8m/pixel?

Does anyone know where Flight Simulator 9 stores the textures for generic scenery? They don't seem to be in the Textures folder of FS9 or the actual scenery.

HelloI have got problem with World of AI traffic. I have instaled .net framework 2.0 but I have got still a problem. Some of airlines works good like British airways, Iberia, Amierican airlines that planes are everyware but some are not like KLM, SAS, Air France or Alitalia. I mede airport bigger but still I see for example at Paris CDG airport only two or tree airf france planes. The same problem is on every airport like Amstedam or Milan. What is wrong??

Thanks to Luis, I've discovered the LWMViewer2 utility. It's great for moving buildings off roads and zapping unwanted buildings. This would have saved me a lot of time in clearing out the Punchbowl in Hononlulu. Why diddle around with exclusion zones when you can remove objects directly.Fresh from my success in rearranging half of Honolulu, I decided to tackle the Santa Monica, CA vicinity. I first got all the buildings within a ten mile radius off the roads. Then I decided to recreate Century City, since its distinctive twin towers was often used as a call out by ATC. I am using alpha layers for some of my textures in a scenery project, however I have run into a bit of a problem. My alpha layer is only black and white (no grey) so it should only either fully display a part of a texture or nothing at all. Around the edge of the part that is to be shown however (where the black meets the white on the alpha layer) there is some type of see-through effect going on (see image link below.)As you can see in the image, I can see through my other objects all the way to the default FS scenery behind it, and it's quite and eyesore.I use DXTBmp.exe to apply the alpha layer, and have tried saving in both 32-bit and DXT3 formats, with the same resul…

Not strictly scenery per se, but BGL files just the same. Would it be possible to replace approaches, legs, waypoints in FS9 scenery files by themselves through add-on scenery? That is, without replacing the entire airport they're a part of? If so could it be done on a case by case basis (i.e. replace one approach but not another for the same airport), or would you have to use the deleteAllApproaches attribute of the DeleteAirport element and redefine them all?

I am attempting to place airport beacons back in FS2004. I used to be able to do this on XP, but now i am running Vista Ultimate Edition and BGLcomp is not compatable with Vista.I have verified the incompatability by assuring the following:UAC is disabledBGLComp has full admin privilidgesBGLComp is set to run in compatability mode for XP SP2There is no Spyware or Antivirus tool running that would block this (the machine I am working on is strictly a flight sim so no need for such software).Is there an alternate program that can convert an XML file into a BGL File that works in Vista?Thanks. Gottfried Razek has created several examples of 1.1m/pixel photo scenery for FS9. It clings to the underlying mesh. My question is, since FS9 can display 1.1m stuff could it be made to display 1.1m landclass texture tiles such as used in FSX??? I'm using FS9. I decided to clean out the generic buildings cluttering the National Memorial Cemetery located in the 'Punchbowl' crater in Honolulu, HI. I used ExcBuilder to create a bgl file which didn't work. I had the bgl placed in ..fs9addon sceneryhawaiiscenery and have the hawaii folder installed in the Priority 1 slot (temporarily) in the scenery library.The weird thing is, I can't seem to get EB to produce another bgl file! I input the data, create the xml code and compile and nothing. No error messages but no bgl file either. I tried different areas besides Hawaii, but that didn't work. Any ideas as to what is going wrong here?Tawni

Has anybody yet written (and is willing to provide) a (free) tool to safely manipulate the terrain.cfg file in FSX?I would like to eventually distribute some (free) (free as in Open Source) new road and rail textures that would for instance actually show proper lane markings depending on the number of lanes of the road and not use the same texture for 2-lane and 4-lane roads, and have concrete sleeper and also single-track railway textures. (Hmm, maybe even overhead lines for electrified track, wonder if the extrusions stuff could be used for that?) Hope to get some answers to this one. Can FS9 scenery created with FSDS be converted to use in FSX? Hi All,I've rummaged through a lot of the posts in the forum here, including the beginer's guide. However, as I have seen many tools mentioned for photoscenery and DEM, it's rather unclear as to where to obtain the best sources of data, and the appropriate program to use to obtain the best results. Needless to say, having everything in multiple posts is senseless and creates a large amount of distortion into the concept and confusion. I'm looking to do a small area, and have no idea of where to start, or what kind of data is best. Guys,Am having a small issue with GMAX. If I have IE7 open and try and launch GMAX the program does not launch on screen although I can it in the Task Manager. In all other instances GMAX launches without a problem.Any idea why this might be happening?Shez

Subject says it all. :-lol I know .api macros are considered naf since the introduction of xml-based scenery (and I am a confirmed .xml scenic designer); however, Jim Jackson (of Northern Exposure.com fame) produced some really excellent macros. I've just discovered an early version of Object Placer that can place .api macros into FS (slew, note location, and compile .bgl) and I am now on the search for some particular macros to finish a project I currently have underway. If anyone has any of Jim's .api's in their scenery design cache I would be most appreciative if they could pm or email me. After exporting my mdl file from Gmax, I don't get an xml file. I'm trying to add a scenery object that I'm creating to FSX and I need an xml file so that I can use bglcomp to create a bgl file from the xml file. I tried making an xml file but when I compile it I get an error in every line of code and don't get a bgl file after compiling. What is the correct format for an xml file for a scenery object that I want to add to FSX? I'll mention that I'm using Vista 64-bit operating system incase that's my problem.

I have failed to find any explanation what the 3_PLUS_1, 3_PLUS_4 and 7_PLUS_4 texture layouts exactly mean, and why they are needed. Anyone? I could also not find anything in the DirectX SDK documentation about these layouts, is this an FSX internal thing and not something DirectX would know about?I have read the SDK's Environment KitTerrain SDKTerrain Configuration File.html file but it just says, for 3_PLUS_4 for instance: "Three vertical strips and one strip with four subdivisions: one half, one quarter, and two one eighth sections." Hi All:I have been using the FSArquitec program, from pouksim, which now is free.(or donationware)It have an option to create Photo Texture Grid that alows to have a background imagen, as a ground texture, so if you have a satelite photo or an aereal photo you can put ir easily on FS as a pohotreal texture.But even when I have set the proper alpha channel for the file, (where I set full black to the area where I don't want the imagen replicated on the FS, light grey where I want a semitransparent area basically for the taxyways and runways, and full white for the areas where I want the photo to be shown fully.When I compile the scenery using SCASM (or even FreeSC) the pho…

Is there value anywhere that one can adjust scenery object scaling?Default terminals are at minimum, 2x as high as they should be. I have not figured out if they are oversize laterally yet.I know that Autogen is oversized by design, I'm sure and a fair compromise. I can live with that :)
