Hi,I've tried to make photorealistic sceneries with Photo Scenery Maker but the scenery does not appear in FS2004.:( In fact, I've followed the tutorial but my scenery generated in 2 seconds and the *.bgl file size was less than 1 Mo. Strange ... :-rollNormally, it should take more time to generate. Could you tell me what I've done wrong ?Thank you for your help.;-)Damien BRUNET.e-mail : [email protected]

Hi all:Gilles Gauthier and I are writing a short tutorial on adjusting lake elevations for default and add-on terrain mesh. One of the steps would be much quicker if we knew the naming convention of the FS2002 Scenedb HYP*.bgl files.I figured out the naming convention for the FS9 equivalents (see below) but was surprised to notice that those files have entirely different names in FS2002. I searched this forum but couldn't find any information. How can I find a specific file given its lat/long (other than figuring out the regional subfolder)? Does anyone know? Cheers, Holger--------This what I came up with for the FS9 files:Each of the vector/polygon files covers a LOD5 gr…

There's got to be a better way to do this...Right now, to harden a surface for something like a helipad on top of an API macro object that I insert (Like an oil rig), I place an "invisible" runway at the height I want the pad at. I then add a flatten Polygon to prevent FS from heaving the ground up to the invisible runway level...Problem is, If you fly away from the rig, say more then 15-20 NM, then return to it, you see the terrain rising up to the runway height, which of course pushes my 3D object (the rig) up on the "hill" FS has created. I then fall through the helipad....The only fix for this I've found is to refresh my scenery upon returning to the rig, which is a…

Hi all,I just got thru my first photoreal scenery (actually a learning prototype) with TerraBuilder Lite and I have some questions after going through this tedious process.First some screens. The scenery was put together with b&w USGS Aerial photos (8m/p) downloaded and stitched with USAPhotoMaps.exe. It is roughly a 33x24 Km area around KROA. All layed over top of FS Genesis high res mesh.I haven't learned how to paint the photos yet; so I just used ColorBMP.EXE to get going with something, and then hacked around with PSP8 to change things around (so it is quite ugly right now). http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/38120.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/38121.j…

Hello All,I noticed that the surface of a Lake that I like to fly around is about 150 ft lower in altitude than it is in reality. Is there a way to modify the altitude of an eisting body of water in FS? Is this what Coastline Maker is used for?TIA,

Hi all, been away lately...I have recently finished my scenery of Welshpool airfield and used poly's for Taxiways and Aprons, which unfortunately give rather precise lines to their borders.I would like to create to create a single Bitmap of the airfield. How easy is this to achieve?I am struggling with what resolution to work in, other than High..Working in a High res is not a problem, like 100cm/pixel, but the problem is what to do if the plan your working from is low Res. GSummons achieves some tremendous results with his textures at(1024*1024),overlayed with more detailed 1024*1024 images, I wonder whether this to do with resolution in Fs.This is another issue, my runwa…

Polynesia 2000 was a nice little bit of FS2000 scenery, but it had a great deal of trouble running in FS2002. If I tweaked scenery.cfg with Flattens & Excludes and disabled Southwest Pacific I could make it marginally acceptable.I just tried to install it in FS9

Hope someone can give a steer on my problem. I have used Ground 2k to produce terrain where it was originally flat ground (on islands). When approaching (say 30miles plus distance) the surrounding water seems to be "pulled up" into the hills. As I get closer it all pops into place okay.I think it is my video card as I have flattened the sea around the island but any help would be appreciated.Thanks. Colin

Hi all,First, no I have not started making some kind of zoo :D. I have finished the first beta version of my new Conditional Animation Tool or CAT for short. What can this tool do for you? It provides an easy way to make the kind of changes to your GMax source file that I describe in my Frequency Controlled Animation tutorial. So you don't need to spend hours tweaking it, it will only take you a few mouse clicks now.Besides that it also contains some new things I have "discovered" after I had finished the tutorial. You can for example display different animations depending on the value of a variable (for example if you make a gate you could display a different animation dep…

I played around with this a little in 2k2 but my real intent there was to add some hires mesh to an area with some rivers and the MS mesh had no valleys for them. I ended up throwing photoreal on top because when the mesh was in the right place all the rivers and roads weren't. I only had greyscale images so I spent forever coloring them. I tossed in some autogen and a few GMax buildings and bridges and I thought it was a big improvement. This time I've got color sat pics of the west coast of Florida. Mesh isn't an issue because there pretty much aren't any hills on the coast of Florida. My first issue is water. The sat pics I've got show alot of color variation. Espe…

Greetings allI'm fairly new to creating scenery and have run into a problem with the aircraft macros I'm using. I'm using FS Scenery Creator, and yes, I've posted a note in that forum but haven't had any responses. The textures are of the older style created for use in FS2000. I get a compile error and the aircraft shows up in the scenery without any textures. Any ideas? Are these just not usable in FS9? Does anyone know where I can get some good small GA aircraft macros for FS9? Thanks for all your helpDave

I've been furiously working on my KRDG scenery for FS9 to get it done in time for the Avsim conference. While it won't be complete, attendees should get a pretty good preview of it at the gathering. I'm also presenting a paper on scenery design in which I detail the processes I went through in making this airport as real as I could. Here's a dev screenshot -- if you're interested, there are more at http://www.spottedantelope.com/bwomack to see. Now for some more coffee!thanks,

I have been flying at Oshkosh a bunch and while doing some tweaking, I noticed all the aircraft parked at Oshkosh if you bump up the scenery density slider. They look like blocky versions of the aircraft that come as default AI, the Cessna's, Cherokee, Mooney etc. I was wondering if it would be possible to use them as API macros for our scenery programs. With row upon row of these things displayed there is little or no frame rate hit here. They look fine for scenery additions and it would allow us to populate airports easily and with good frame rates. Plus they lok better than most API aircraft macros I have seen. I was thinking whoever recently did the autogen buildings …

Is there a way to make all of your macro's appear from a closer range. I have far too many macro's in my Waikiki scenery to adjust each one individually so I'd like to adjust them all at once to increase frame rates a little.

Just uploaded first scenery file, hon.zip which adds over 1,000 api's to the Waikiki area of honolulu. Please feedback as to whether it works correctly. Note: This is a work in progress which will be updated as I add more files. Also, I neglected to credit the wonderful macro designers, I will rectify this in an updated version in the near future. Please excuse me not doing so as of yet I'm very new at this but wanted to share this scenery. There is no way that this file could have been created without the wonderful freeware macros designed by these people.

Hi there!I'm new to scenery design. I'm creating a new scenery for my local airport for FS2002/04, I made the building with Gmax. Now I'm at the stage of creating the ground scenery. Which freeware program do you guys suggest for this purpose? I would like to create my own runways, taxyways and parking area by using my own textures and I was thinking to use Airport 2.60. Is this any good? Thanks !!

Well, we all know that the standard FS mesh texture resolution is roughly 4.8m per pixel.Well, 4.8m is the resolution with the default 256x256 pixel textures, so, so logically using a 512x512 pixel texture instead concludes in 2.4m resolution per pixel.I tried it and DXT textures with that size are fully visible in FS2004.Sure, simple resizing the current FS texture is ridiculous (no more detail) but for custom hand drawn textures that 2,4m thing surely can be an improvement.I dunno if it's possible with 1024x1024 DXT textures ... will conclude in 1.2 m resolution.Mario :-)

Ok Anyone have thier airport program compiling the sceneries to fs9 correctly? Maybe you could post how you have it set up, worked like a champ in 2002 but i cant seem to make it do things right in fs9. I have reset the default directories to fs9 ones, but nothing is getting put where it belongs, and I get error messages saying the FS2002 directories dont exist..no kidding its uninstalled. This shows even after i edited all the default bgl/scenery directory locations in the preferences screen.Hornit

I hope someone can answer this question for me.I have just loaded FS9 and once again I find that the smaller town scenery is not much better then the previous version.I have a detail scenery file of Rochester NY, which has a large amount of the city buildings on the lat/long locations. I made this file and used it with FS98 and then with FS2002.FS9 has a much better Airport (runways etc etc).My question is:Is there a way to bring the buildings and anything else from my scenery file into FS9 and combine them together?
