  1. Hi guys, I have just spent time learning the techniques for using Ground2k. Its all coming together, and I'm enjoying the challenge of marrying the srtm elevation data to a topo map, and adding lakes, etc. Good fun.Only bummer is this error621, lake/line crossing itself. Now I keep thinking I've got it, and yet I don't. I'm trying to add coast with "poly with shore", making the lmw land. I've tried clicking off "joins ends of line", which seems to take away a chance for the line to cross itself, but this doesn't fix it. I've tried not crossing area boundarys....no go. I find that VERY simple shapes don't produce the error, but tracing real shorelines does produce i…

Hi Folks,i have a little problem with Ground2K. At my scenery i have an area with 5 LOD8-cells. Streets and other lines crossing the LOD8-borders getting very thin short of the border and dissapear totally at the border. I've tried everything, as example i placed the points short bevore the border, at the border or with a little distance to the border. I also splittet the street-line but, the result was always the same.....Does anyone had the same prob or a solution ??ThanksDirk

I built another test pad. This time a 2.5m square, .1m thick, elevated 20m above the surface on a cylinder that is 1 meter in diameter. I place the invisible plane/mesh as usual, however, unlike my previous experiment above a 5m diameter cylinder, the helicopter now falls through the helipad after just a couple of seconds.Thinking this might be a contact point problem after reviewing the contact points, I added contact points to provide landing surface close enough togeather to land on such a small pad. This changed nothing.Am I missing something? Has anyone had and solved this problem?Patrick

I tried to download the Kerkira Greek scenery mentioned on the front page. It sounds great. I went there and started to download it with my 1.5M DSL and it downloaded at a rediculous 0.4k/sec. I canceled the download. Would anyone who downloaded it please upload it here to the library here so we can download it at a reasonable rate. Thanks, regards, Bob.

I created a watermasked area using Terrabuilder. It appears correctly in FS2004. Now I want to re-introduce parts of the original underlying texture by using Landfills from Ground2K. The problem is that none of the Ground2K items appear. I also tried to just place a straight section of road accross the water area but it would not appear. The watermasked BGL is at a lower priority in the Scenery Library than the Ground2K BGLs. The only way I can see the Ground2K items is to place the watermasked BGL below the normal North America East scenery of FS2004. Now the watermasked area does not appear since it is superceded by the normal textures/scenery. Therefore, it seems that i…

Hi all:I'm working with Landsat 7 ETM 15-m data in the Rocky Mountains of B.C. and I'm looking for ideas to minimize the 'blockiness' of the source data. The pictures below show the obvious pixels after running resample.exe (v1) with the raw 15-m data (please disregard the missing or off-tone colors; right now I'm just concerned with resolution and image placement). Most blocks are 4x4 pixels, i.e. ~20m. It appears that resample.exe uses a nearest-neighbour approach to resampling (to 4.8m) rather than a bilinear or bicubic transform. I have experimented with changing pixel size in Photoshop (7.5m or 3.75m, with bicubic transform) prior to using resample.exe and it helps t…

Hi again,Ok, when I export, should crash be OFF (I doing crash ON)? I notice that after landing on the pad and sitting awhile, I'll get a crash, and landings are extra sensitive.I tried it OFF and thought it didn't work, but maybe my test was messed up.It seems that no matter how I adjust the plane up or down a bit, I get this problem. Thanks, Patrick

OK, I need help with something. Ive followed the tutorials on creating a landable surface using Gmax and FSRegen, and have readall the threads on Avsim under the word "landable", but it still doesnet seem to work. Here's what I do.1. Create a plane in Gmax.2. Add an editMesh modifier.3. Create a new material, make it pure blue. (0,0,255), and make sure the luminence or whatever is 100 percent so that the little mountain shows up on the right hand side of the editor. Click apply.4. Add a MapUV modifier.5. Export using Makemdl to the FSregen folder (making sure "save files" is checked and '"crash" is unchecked).6. Close Gmax, run FSregen.7. Load .asm file and open. (I get…

  15. Hi,I'm trying to make a simple helipad on top of a simple cylinder.Attached is the GMax and texture file I created to do this with FSREGEN. When I run FSREGEN, I leave 0 in the altitude per recommendatons from others, and leave the get from FS box unchecked.I note to that it says zero lines of new code when done. Is this right?Anyway, I hope someone can tell me what I'm doing wrong, it's about to drive me crazy after two days searching the forums and trying things. =)Thanks, Patrick

  16. Who wants to get the domain www.scenery-design.info?I've decided to close my website in a few days. Due to my job at Aerosoft and my very large website about bicycle travelling (www.fietspad.de) it's not possible for me anymore too keep my website up to date. Therefore I offer this domain for free to anyone else. The only condition is, that the new webiste on www.scenery-design.info should have something in common with scenery-design. Everyone who's interested can send me an e-mail ([email protected]).Best regardsSasa

Hey,Got everything setup per directions, export fine, 3 textures to be updated found fine, compiles fine in FSREGEN, then in FS9, no joy.Crash detect is on, using latest makemdl.exe.Here's what I'm doing in GMax:- Create a plane object and convert it to editable mesh. - Give it a material named "landable1" (etc. there are 3)- Set specular color to pure red, blue, or green (255,0,0 for example.- Set specular level to 100.- Save & Export with Keep files set.- Open the asm file with FsRegen.- Select each material in step 2 in turn.- Select "Landing Area" in step 3 and click on parameters. Set the altitude to 3209 (also tried the FS option).- On step 4 process the mater…

I made animated gates using gmax and Arno's technique which worked fine in FS2002. When I transferred it into FS2004, the gates don't animate anymore.I wonder if something has changed between FS2002 and FS2004, maybe in the way the variables are used. Has anyone experienced the same problem or is it just me?Thanks to any replies.Manny AquinoPFSGPhilskies.Net

Would any scenery designer here be willing to do Des Moines, Iowa for FS2k2 complete with buildings, gates, the new runways and taxiways, NAVAIDS, and taxiway signs? I would be happy to provide pictures, charts, freq's, maps and any other materials you might require. Just e-mail me at [email protected].

  22. I went thru the process you had posted with using MicroDEM and Map Maker to reproject ortho's, and after a couple of adjustments I was able to get what I consider oustanding results. You are a Gee-knee-us with a capital "Gee".I may repost the instructions with some modifications/clarifications that I found. The only problem I've run into is that MicroDEM sometimes flakes out about memory and won't let me save an image over a certain size (32 Mb ?). But a clean reboot fixes the problem. Now on to figuring out how to make my photo look goooooood.Cheers,

Hey guys,I want to create a landable surface using FSREGEN. So....In GMax I create a plane, assign a material with the name "Landable", a specular color 255, 0, 0, a specular level of 100, with no maps. Then, I 'export', and Middleman 1.3 comes up. Under options, I check: "Keep files", "SaveX File", "Fix Specular", & "Compile X File".When I check the diretory, no myfile_0.asm that FSREGEN needs. No joy. What am I doing wrong??Thanks, Patrick

Hi,I guess this is something of a longshot, but would anyone have airfield charts or data for Tribhuvan Int'l, Kathmandu.I'm working on a scenery for it and have the basic layout, but I'm lacking detailed information, particularly with regards to precise lighting (i.e. Apron/Taxiway/Runway/Approach). Ramp plans woulds also be dead handy.Any info or links would be hugely appreciated.Cheers,C.J.
