I am not a pilot so I am unsure if this question is even valid in a real world scenario. However in FSX when choosing an IFR plan when should you use GPS? Looking online I see a bunch of tutorials using the GPS direct to an airport destination. My question is if ATC is providing you instructions on where you should be, can you use GPS? I have a flight plan from KSNA to KLAS. The plan takes me from KSNA --> APLES --> JIPEM --> 15THR --> KLAS. When I take off, ATC is already instructing me what heading to be at, if I turn on GPS to follow my flight plan, ATC will complain and continue to instruct me to the heading they want me on. Hi, today I got inspired to have the CT-114 Canadian Snowbirds acrobatic team as one of my flying options. I have this plane in my FS9. I did the install of the freeware version that is available and also installed the update and HD texture package that is available. I ensured that the gauge folder was correctly placed, the sound.cfg was aliased to a working sound folder, put the two sets of planes in Simobjects - Aircraft folder. I can load up the plane from the menu under Canadair. There are several issues that need to be sorted out. 1. when switching to VC view its possible to see out the canopy window but after a second or two it goes black. 2. the out…

Hi, I am a pilot and have an airline interview next month in a B737-800 SIM. I can not afford to go out and buy some 737 SIM time at around $500-700 an hour so here I am hoping to prep my interview using computer based sim. Please help me out. What software and hardware do I buy? Do I just go to Amazon.com and order me the newest microsoft sim and a yoke/joy stick and go from there? I have Apple macpro. Do I need to buy a PC to use the SIM? For reference I have zero hours or experience in a JET or any other JET based sim. All my flight hours are in a Cessnas. Thank you!!!

I had to reinstall my FSX\gold onto a new/used computer with win7 Pro 32. I used to have Ult. I'm in the middle of installing Andreas Koerners' a-5 for FSX which I can succesfuly install by unzipping to a temp and from there moving the folder to simobject\airplanes folder.There is a nice by 2D panel for the Icon A5 for FSX, by Dan Cowan which requires replacing some folders. amongst other the .air file which I don't have. I checked all my a/c's in my installation and non of them have their .air file.Or is not being shown? I use a number of different route planners, EFB, FS Commander, PMDG FMC, Simroutes, Routefinder etc. When looking at SIDS and STARS they are sometimes different. Is there a way to sync them, like buy the latest from navigraph?

I mainly fly the PMDG 737 NGX. Lately I am flying it a bit more realistic and hence I had a look at TOPCAT. Now I wondered... why should I get it? The FMC will calculate ZWF, CG, take off speeds and landing speeds for me so... why should I bother with TOPCAT? I usually take off with fill throttle and I never have a problem with it and I also never have a problem with landing. I had a look at the TOPCAT manual and it looks interesting and detailed but I still wonder why people use it... Is it because it is more realistic? Because as far as I can tell I don't really NEED it... Or is there a reason for using TOPCAT that I overlook? Just curious. ^_^

I am NOT very familiar with modifying FSX files. How can I get it to rebuild my SimObjects (preferably aircraft only) after a minor change to one of my aircraft? On my other computer which I also run FSX I use FSPS Extreme and there is a button to select to rebuild SimObjects. I don't want to pay for another version of that program and I have searched and searched the forums and can not seem to find an answer. hey all, Since I am the proud owner of a GTX670 4Gb Edition and a i7-3770K I am able to enjoy fsx way more because of the awesome performance I get out of this rig. but I'm still experiencing a little stutters and I think it's because of the bufferpools entry in my fsx.cfg I'm using UsePools=0 and the default RejectThreshold from the Venetubo fsx tweak. I just completed a complete uninstall and reinstall of FSX. Now as I am attempted to start reinstalling required addons I find when I went to reinstall FSUIPC there is no modules file folder in my FSX program. I have the GOLD addition of FSX, which includes all the SPs and I did a complete defrag of my systems after the reinstall. My question(s) are what happened to my modules file and is FSUIPC required with the Gold edition? Thanks for your help.

Anyone did a comparison between the improved wx engine in REX Essential PLUS and OpusFSX yet?

Hi OpusFSX team, I really like your software, the wx-generator is very good! Some suggestions regarding the addon-menu (in FSX): - Would it be possible to place all the menu items in one folder OpusFSX? - Is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to some of the items. I prefer to look at the local wx-report when i enter the sim and during flight and it would be nice to be able to quickly call-up and remove the menu this way. Kind regards, André

Hi all i'm going to start a round the world flight come the new year in my a2a b-17 what im looking for is a website that will for example say i takeoff from Heathrow that is my departure airport and i have a max range of say 1000 miles is there a website that i can put my departure airport in and set the distance to this and it will list the closest airports in that 1000 mile range. Has anyone have this happen to them? This is a first for me! I was flying the NGX on a flight with many segments (Which I often do) This one was Southwest Flight#294 from KPIT-KMCO-KMSY-KDAL-KMCI-KPDX-KSLC-KLAS-KSAN. Everything went fine up until I got to Kansas City. On the next segment to KPDX the Flight Number changed itself to Southwest #5355, which I'm flying now, Other then the flight number change, everything is working perfectly, but I never seen this happen before! I haven't reloaded the aircraft, and I checked the aircraft.cfg file to see if it took the flight number from the fltsim section but even that was different. This is for those of you who have made changes to the FSX.CFG file. I used to get the "FSX not responding" message accompanied by an 8 or 9 minute freeze of the program. It happened randomly and without any apparent reason. I read where deleting the .CFG file and allowing FSX to rebuild it on the next startup may help get rid of some of the side effects of changing the file. I tried it and so far, FSX is running well. The only problem I'm having is disappearing aircraft texures when the scenery is transitioning from dusk to night with the PMDG 747. HIGHMEMFIX did nothing. It's annoying, but I can live with it. I have a half request, half just a thing to say. It would be really nice if we got more airports (ORBX especially) for around YVR, with the new FSDreamTeam scenery. The closest airport with scheduled flights would be Bella Coola, but there are much more airports with more flights that are just as "ORBXstyle" as the others. What do people think. Hi folks...looking for a little help. Most of my scenery is Orbx US and ANZ...but I bit on end of year sales and bought MegScenery for Connecticut and Pennsylvania. They were really big downloads, and I then ran the installers and installed them in their own directory and added them ( I thought) to the scenery library. What I get now whenever I start up is an error as follows (wanted to post jpeg or pdf of the message but the rules are so strict and complicated I figured I'd just retype the error): SECENERY.CFG file error. I am looking to install EFB on to a lap top and run it along side FSX in order to have visible moving map etc.and also possibly to transfer over FS Build. I have a PC with a DVI - D connection but my lap top has a VGA connection. Can anyone tell me how to link up the 2 computers and what I need to do so. Many thanks in anticipation. Michael

I am currently using EFB on a 30 day trial and fully intend to purchase it when this period expires. I have one issue though; When I am on the Route Set Up page and I open my aircraft box I only have the following aircraft listed; FSX Airbus 321 FSX Being 737-800 FSX Cessna 172 FSX Mooney Bravo My PMDG 737-800 does not show up as well as some other add on planes. Any fix for crashing into trees and buildings your not even hitting? to reach out and grab your plane and cause a crash if your anywhere near them (but not touching them) is there a fix? Example of this is I was turning my Dc3 around at kcmw all of a sudden crash the closest thing was a tree that was a good 10 feet from my wing tip

I have a new LED 40", HDMI 1080p TV I am using as a second monitor. I run FSX on the this big monitor and use my 22" Samsung 3D monitor for running Plan-G, FSC, and displaying charts etc. I had a LCD version of the same thing above. I could get a flawless sharp FSX with no jagged lines on this HDTV...mostly showing on aircraft cockpit, along wings etc and runways, building roofs etc. I have pretty much a "Word Not Allowed Guide" setup. I have my resolution set to the max HD. I know that anisotropic filtering setting might be a factor but I haven't changed anything when I moved from one monitor type to the other except gone from an LCD to LED monitor. Do…
