Can/should I upgrade my FSX system from using DX9 to DX10? How do I do this? What are the factors affecting the decision? My system is Win7 Home Premium with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX590.

I'm trying to figure out what's going on. Either my FSX is messed up, Tongass Fjords X is messed up or I'm doing something wrong. Look at the pic. I'm set to approach Kake. I've tuned in the Kake VOR and NDB. However, VOR refuses to show up on the gauges. Can someone do quick flyby near PAFE, Kake, AK tuned into the 114.40 VOR and see it is 'found' on your plane/FSX system? I am a bit stumped why the VOR signal can not be picked up by any plane I've tried. Click on image 2 time to make full size.

I've been using the Airbus X Extended for my Drukair company on Air Hauler. I almost always manually bring in and land my planes (unless conditions do not permit), and I usually get -50 to -200 touchdown FPM on manual landings with all my PMDG aircraft, MJC Dash 8 Q400, and SimCheck A300B4. The problem I am getting is when I land the AXE, I have trouble getting good landings. I usually end up having long landings because when the plane tells me to flare, I flare but usually end up flaring too much and hovering off the runway for a lot longer than desired, risking a MAP or an excursion. In the 5 years that FSX exists, I have collected an enormous amount of addons. Aircraft, environment, utilities and of coarse scenery. Aerosoft's Stavanger X being the latest (since last night :( ).Especially with airport sceneries, I've noticed that I've lost track on what I actually have. I've simply forgotten what I have.The result is that I mainly fly to the recent added airports or the ones that are simply so good, they've stuck in my memory.This leaves at least a 100+ airports left that are installed but never get visited anymore.It made me wondering how other people do this. I have been running into recurring OOMs in FSX, even with windows 7 64bit as my OS, ever since the middle of last year. Apparently all the new high fidelity addons are starting to take a toll on my system. I am hoping to lessen the chance of these issues by shutting down unnecessary applications while I run FSX, and I remember back about 2 years ago or so when it was recommended to use a special game launcher application that was specifically designed to shut down extraneous applications and processes. Hello all. I am a few weeks out from building a new rig and getting back into FSX (waiting on haswell to come out). And now that ill finally have a powerful enough rig to handle good scenery, i plan on greatly enhancing my FSX world. And this is where i need help as i have been out of the loop for the last few years. A little info on what im looking for and the kind of flying i do. I pretty much only fly the bigger airliners, so wont be doing any VFR flying. And my favorite area to fly is Europe and North America. With all the great payware planes, scenery, environment textures and programs like FSCaptain IdealFlight FSpax Vroute etc etc etc Im quite surprised there hasn't been a payware FSInn or squawk box released yet.. FSX/P3D have really settled in being stable platforms to build on. Im not in the developing circles but I think with the amount of talent out there it'd be great to have an easy to use "model matching" prog that makes online flying more of a joy than a setting up puzzle.. I have just purchased FSX Gold and wish to install it for the very first time on my pc. Whilst I am sure this won't cause me too many headaches,would the community advise any tips before I set about the installation.I read somewhere it's best to install as 'admin',is this true? If it helps,I am running my pc with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit,i7-920 processor,quad core,GTX 580 1.5 GB graphics card,6 GB RAM,1 TB SATA 7200 RPM hardrive. Hi guys, when I hit the opus button before take off the view zooms out a bit and sort of repostions a bit (this is standard right?) however when I click on the hud it cuts off half of the display. How can I fix this? thanks in advance :-)

I've recently installed a whole bunch of the MSEv2 Photoscenery (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Lousiana). I'm new to using photoscenery and I'm trying to get it tweaked to display best on my system. It seems I might be having a problem with blurry textures, however at this point, I'm still trying to determine what is "normal" and what isn't. If I'm flying around the Western Panhandle of Florida at 10,000 feet and 350 knots everything seems pretty good. On the other hand, if I start a flight at Pensacola Florida, load into my flight on the runway, and takeoff....as I climb through 3000 feet at around 250 knots and look out the cano…

Hey Simmers, I need a little help, as much as i want to do a complete flight from the ground up, time constraints dont let me ;(. I could use a little help to my dilemma, I basically want to fly an approach using STAR, i want to just slew the aircraft to any point near an airport, select the correct runway, load the STAR in the FMC including ILS and fly manually. I fly all the best out there, PMDG 747,md1 NGX, JS41. i did try myself in the 747, i got program error when i try to select the STar. Please help Thanks in advance, Thejus Mathew

I need some help with visual approach using PMDG 737. I always use ILS autolanding so I have no knowledge about manual landing. In some airports like Skiathos, there is no ILS so I have to land it manually. I programmed the FMC till the runways with NDB approach. It descends until 2000 feet but doesn't line up with runway. LNAV finishes around 10nm to the runway so I had to manually turn the plane aligning the plane and descend manually. Can someone explain the steps for it? Thanks

I am having to reset the Track IR scan frequency in the GUI each time I launch OpusFSX. It is always defaulting to 12. Version 3.00.0 is my install. Thanks again for a great product.

Hi, I use PMDG 737-800 NGX and have recently run into a problem that occurs on all my flights. I use the autoland system, no problem, flare arms without rollout then i disengage autopilot, touch down, use reversers to 60kts, then apply manual braking. As far as I know, I haven't done anything wrong. Then, as I come to about 30kts, the brakes stop working altogether including my parking brake; I just keep rolling. The only way I have been able to stop from this point onwards is to use my reversers again. I've looked online and found no solution to this, please help! Thanks in advance.

I've been simming since the square cloud days but still have sort of a "newbie" question. Why do my framerates drop dramatically near the end of most of my flights? Using PMDG 737NGX, Radar Contact, Topcat, Active Sky 2012, REX, FSC9 on a fairly high-end machine. Is there some sort of cache that is cumlative throughout the flight that might slow me down near the end? If so, how do I adjust it? Would appreciate any help/suggestions. Jeff Even Rocklin, CA

:t4020: I have an older system [Dell 8250 Desktop] that runs Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. I have been totally unable to get the Expansion Pack installed, I think Microsoft does not intend that we will be able to re-install [on Windows 7]! Consequently, I have given up trying to re-install the Expansion Pack. What I am now looking for is a workaround that will allow me to install the F-18 and the aircraft carriers from my Expansion Pack disk [after all I paid for them!]. Does anyone know how to do that? Hey all, I've been pretty critical of the BBS A320, but as I had not tried it since v0.5, I thought I would give the latest version a spin, to see how it's behaving. It's not bad, but things like the sounds for the overhead switches etc are still very 'cheap' sounding, and could be so much better. Okay, my first question; In the BlackBox Simultion folder in the FSX root, there is a file called "Panel" and within that, there are some keyboard assignable commands, for the FCU, etc ......................... however, rather than appearing to accept actual keyboard commands, they seem to have a (coded?) series of numbers next to each command? Hi, I mostly fly planes that is supported by FS2Crew, and today I was wondering if I should go Airbus Extended or Majestic Dash for my next plane. In the end I decided for the Airbus because FS2Crew support for it is coming soon. I can see on the FS2Crew forum that support probably would be coming IF there is a SDK available for the plane, so: My question is: Is such a SDK forthcoming? I am sure its a great plane, but without FS2Crew it just doesn't feel real to me, others may/will ofcourse have other opinions Helge

If you want to descend and slow down in a hurry, besides full flaps at allowed speed, is it wrong to un-feather the prop of an idling engine? Not sure if un-feather is the proper term but put the prop blades flat side forward against the wind so slow the plane down. Also, is turning solely with the rudder much of the time considered a no no?

I load a the default Boeing 737-800. I selected gate 33 at Chicago-o-hare airport. Right after loading, the aircraft disapears from the screen and a red text in a green box at the top of the says CRASH. What is going on?

Hi all I have scoured the forum to find a dedicated Airbus X forum but can't find it. Apologies if i've missed it. Is there a way to load a default FSX flight plan into the Airbus X? I use vroute to plan a flight and then load it into Radar Contact. RC needs to know what the plan is before I load up flight sim. Is there any way to do this? Thanks

Im curious to know about this idea, or actually implementation of using an external flight dynamics engine outside of FSX is really the future of development. Majestic did it with the Q400, and I believe the FSLabs is doing it with their 320. Not sure if PMDG is implementing this as well in their upcoming projects. If so, then it would seem it kinda gives FSX some further vitality to continue on. However there must be disadvantages to what appears to be good advantages such as not having such a burden on the system. I've been running .70 zoom with wideaspect = true in my fsx.cfg. Just wondering what people feel is a realistic zoom or the best compromise between real and functional in FSX without a Track IR investment? Seems like with .70 I can easily tilt the view down just a hair with the hat switch to bring the HSI (or electronic variant on a glass cockpit) into view enough to keep track of my pitch and fpm during landing or takeoff. 1.0 zoom I know is supposed to be realistic but it looks like my chin is on the glareshield at that point.
