Greetings forum!Often the question is asked: "Does being an experienced sim pilot make it easier to become a real pilot?" I'd like to turn the question upside down: "Does being a real pilot make it easier to become a sim pilot?"As for myself: yes, it did. Due to initially financial and later on medical conditions I haven't piloted a real aircraft in over 25 years, and my experience was very limited to begin with. Yet these limited and half forgotten experiences have definitely been very helpful, when after FS2002 hit the market I finally decided to give simming a go. What do others think? Be, stay, live and think well!Jaap Verduijn.

  2. While working on the Duck project, with Bill Morad and Bob Familton doing the panel work, I had decided to have him delete a landing light switch since in none of the many photos I had examined could I see any.Bill broght up a very good question though. If flying that plane today, would it have to have any?Or is there some sort of legal waiver for historical aircraft?I have no idea!!Heather

...how to keep the dashboard view (shift + enter) in cockpit mode that is much needed, especially on landings, to remain at my last setting instead of resetting back to the default view when I change views? I'm sure there's probably a way to change it in the .cfg file but I don't want it to be permanantly like that...just not to change back until I change it manually using shift + backspace. Thanks,ROBBYG

Does anybody know how you set up the Instructor Station with a Direct (serial) Connection? I am trying to connect my laptop to my desktop with the laptop as the Instructor Station. I followed all help file instructions, but I do not have the choice of a serial or a modem protocol in MSFS2K2 "Multiplayer Connect" window. (Although the help file says that they are supposed to be on the list.) Only TCP/IP and IPX protocols are available on the menu. Both computers are connected through a serial cable and with the "Direct Cable Connection" setup program inC:WINDOWSStart MenuProgramsAccessoriesCommunicationson both computers completed. Both computer are handshaking properly an…

Has anybody any idea why after about 10-20 mins of flying my FS2002 program crashes & it is always caused by atc.dll. I have tried uninstalling & deleting the directory and then a fresh new install with no extra aircraft scenery etc. I have also tried uninstalling my Radeon drivers, going to the registry and deleting anything to do with Radeon in there, all to no avail. My PC runs fine without any lockups from any other programs. I am running an AMD 2000+ (I

  11. Hello all,I use Saitek45 joystick for my FS2002 with PIC767, latest version of FSUIPC, and with my joystick calibrated using FSUIPC routine. I set scale to 64 and null to 0 as instructed in the document. I cannot see an option for rudder sensitivity from within FS2002 setting menu as I guess the rudder is built into Saitek. I have tried to recalibrate the rudder on different tries but my aircraft veers left and right like crazy on the runway. When I tried to simulate pushback by using the slew mode, I am unable to do so since the aircraft would slowly spin in a circle. Once I am in the air, the ailerons and elevators work fine. I am using Win2000 to run FS. My spec…

We are having a heatwave in New England, so these thoughts must be viewed as addled, but as I have been tinkering with settings to eke out another frame per second (and wringing out my brains over whether to ditch my Radeon 8500 for a GF4 4400, or maybe wait for the Radeon 9700), a fundamental principle occurred to me that I thought I would share--and a question. There is a fundamental principle in nature expressed in the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle that says, in the most general terms, you can't measure anything without perturbing it, and therefore what you measured ain't what it was before the measurement. Examples abound beyond the electron, which is what Heisen…

I see these posts from time to time and they range anywhere from real pilots bashing flightsim as a game to others defending FS as a sustitute to real flight. I just started working on my PPL after a 14 year hiatus (I had 13 hours from 1988) and here's what I found. In 1988 I started lessons in a Part 61 school. I had been flying FS for several years even back then and my instructor was impressed with how quickly I progressed. I soloed after only 5 hours and quit after 13 hours only because I ran out of money. Since then MSFS has been pretty much my only outlet in terms of flying. During the early years I got a thrill out of flying under bridges (in the sim) or down busy s…

Ok Here we go again. Who knows where the 2002 fixes are for the Md-80/87 panels by P Golding? I know they are unauthorized or non distributed maybe but unless someone has a better panel to recommend for 2002 I really prefer his. I downloaded the AP fix for the MD 80 from the italian website but wasn't really impressed. It still shuts down and falls out of the sky if I accidentally open the overhead. Any thing on the MD 87 to get Ap to work Flaps etc? Paul you out there anywhere? An update of your activities would be nice. I know you have a life -I don't expect an update of your old files but maybe some direction eh? Best WishesSteveCome fly Hawaii!

  16. Well, sort of....but read on, I surprised myself today:Like many, I've wondered for some time how or if I can use an MS Force Feedback stick with my CH USB yoke and CH USB pedals. I now know that I can, sort of...!I bought a BELKIN 4-port USB hub from DELL for $29.95 and got a new MS FFB 2 joystick from Page Computer online for $75.I plugged the CH yoke into port 1, the pedals into port 2, and they worked fine. Five days later (today), I plugged the newly arrived MS FFB stick into port 3. For some reason, the MS game controller software worked first time round (!!) and I used the MS factory pre-set profile of FS2000 for Fs2002. I then went into FS2002 and assigned set…

Hello,Even after AP captures the ILS frequency and seems to turn the aircraft just right and is gliding down to what seems (to me at least) a perfect landing, it always lands (crashes) the aircraft a few hundred feet short of the runway. This is happening with all the aircraft. Any idea what I'm doing wrong ?

  20. I am considering purchasing the Greatest Airlines 737-400, since I understand that it is the best addon on the market for medium size aircraft. 1. Do you agree that the GA737-400 is currently the best addon for the medium size aircraft? If not what is your choice?2. Although the software is on a CD, the 80 page "Quick Start" manual, and 200 page "Operations" manual must be downloaded from the GA web site. Is this correct? I have a 56bps dial up modem and the time to download the operations manual is over 2 1/2 hours. Is there any edition of this software with the manuals on the CD? I believe there is a site in the UK selling this software with the manuals on the …

Thanks for your reply. It turned out to be the joystick. Something had broken. I bought a new Sidewinder Precison Pro 2 last night and it started right up.One thing I had failed to mention was that my 5 year old grandson picked it up and ran with it while it was plugged in. I caught him just before the USB plug popped out, but it might have caused some stretching in the cable. Thanks again,Joe

I am trying to find out if my P-4 2.2 GHz chip with 512k of L2 cache (.13 micon) is running too hot in FS2002.My idle temps (computer on but not running anything) runs around 38-42C (100.4F to 107.6F). After running FS2002 and or after system lock-ups 46-54C (114.8 to 129.2F). Intel says my 2.2GHz chip max temp should be 69C (156.2F).My case only came with 6 cooling fans and I am using the CPU fan that Intel shipped with the chip. No over clocking. The average room temp is 70-75F. Terry
