I haven't heard anything in a long time. Something interesting is showing up over at EBWorld. "Jane's civilian Flight Simulator". Now what could this be? No way could XiCat have started from scratch. Whose code could they have purchased? Everything they have made to date in the flight sim arena is based off of someone else's work. Anyone dare to speculate? Pro Pilot 2000 may be off base, Flight Unlimited is dead, and the Fly series is in hibernation, but what else is there that may have slipped by us?CH

Hi,I have installed several meshes for different parts of Europe and the USA and was wondering if I need to disable those that would not be applicable in the Addon Scenery Menu or does the program load just those that are to be used. I have a full install with everything on my hard drive. For example if I am flying in Alaska should I disable all those from other areas, Switzerland and such. The load time for my last flight was 15 minutes! Thanks a lot,Joe Hallstein

I was messing around in the Caravan today and accidentally hit the spoiler key. I switched to external view and lookie what I saw:http://ftp.avsim.com/dcforum/User_files/3d79360726c8424b.jpgThey don't seem to be modeled though, because it has no effect on the aircraft performance. Am I the only one that didn't know about this?

Gerrish Gray just released Version 3 of his fantastic trees. So what? you say. Well -- if you fly any of the GZR_Sceneries you are using Gerrish Gray's trees. This new release will upgrade all GZR_Scenery trees or any other author using his trees to become state of the art. Just download his new release and follow the readme. Not only will you get better trees but the frame rates go up as well. Technical stuff: The .api's (which the scenery design program uses to place the trees is much larger.) But, the textures the end user loads is cut in to half size of the previous issue. That means better trees at half the CPU load. Neat. Just finished changing over all my scenerie…

For those of you who don't want to shell out $25 just now for the new Marchetti, it seems you can get a taste of just how good these guys are at flight modelling on their freeware page. They have airfiles there for the Cessna 182S and land-based Caravan 208B, which I certainly hadn't found before; together with some very detailed repaints of the 182. Those of you who promptly yell "WHAT? Default 'planes? Forgeddaboudit!" need read no further: but you will be missing something. They've also put together some sexy metallic textures for the 182 with real detail.I haven't even tried the Caravan file yet; but the smaller Cessna files like a dream! Man, oh man. I already had…

I've been flying plane and helo simulators since the early '80s, usually without going to great length to learn the proper way to fly. I figured if I was able to fly the Apache, A-10 and WWI + II prop planes without learning things like the correct procedures for landing I was fine.I decided to finally attempt to learn how things should be done so I bought FS2002 and a joystick. I started with the training flights and was instantly captured.Although I still feel compelled to take flights without knowing what I'm doing I am really looking forward to learning how to use my radio, VOR and ILS properly. I can't wait to learn how to get in the proper pattern for landing and ge…

'allo 'allo!Sorry, I know this post isn't about MS flight sim, but:I've been looking into the upcoming Reno air races, visiting the official site, and I have to say it sounds incredibly exciting! I totally wish I could go just to see it, but I might have to wait a few years before that can happen!Anyway, I just wanted to know who's going, who's been and any accounts of your experiences with it. I think I'm getting into a racing phase having recently downloaded the demo version of xtreme air racing, and I tell you, it's good! So let me know if you've been, how good it really is, and if you're going, then we can catch up and you can let me know how it went!Happy simming!Jam…

I have started to experience problems with "Rudder Spikes".I use CH Pro pedals (USB) and find that the rudder now has a mind of its own.To confirm this phenomenon, I cleared all weather (thinking it was gusts) but to no avail.I noticed a checkbox in FSUIPC (I'm using version 2.89) called "eliminate rudder spikes" but this did not work either.Furthermore, when looking at the Joystick Tab on FSUIPC I note that the rudder values are continuously changing (jumping)I have tried deleting FS2002.cfg and allowing system to rebuild it.Has anyone else experienced this problem and can anyone shed light on its cause (and hopefully its solution)?

I have searched the FS2002 preference panels with a fine tooth comb, particularly the "realism" one and I cannot find a way to disable the engine auto-start every time I begin a flight.I'd like to go through the pre-flight checklist but the damn engines are always roaring away as soon as the flight begins.I end up having to shut everything down and start all over which as you can imagine is a big waste of time. Thanks for any assistance

While waiting for my new DELL P4 2.5 Ghz to arrive I thought about how much damage I've prolly done to my existing DELL P3 in the past 3 1/2 years. IE and Outlook Express have become bears with crashes, freezes, hangs, etc., and then I've loaded a dozen utilities on the P3 for internet and other security, privacy, protection, etc. Even though I close this stuff down before activating FS ahd have 90-94% resources available, I feel sure that somehow over time, the performance of the machine has been degraded progressively. So I decided that when the new P4 arrives, I am not going to load anything onto it other than FS2002. I will transfer some FS2002 data from the P3 via …

I do not want to disparage an otherwise excellent freeware, and cannot say there is a connection, but my trouble with square waves began after I installed the Grumman Duck and the special effects files with it. I also noticed that I was not getting proper smoke effects on the duck (just a grey straight line smudge (blocky in a way)), and lost all smoke effects on my other aircraft. That's about the time I began to notice my problems. Is there a cause and effect, here? And, for that matter, are waves controlled as texture or as effect? Sherman KaplanHighland Park IL
