This may seem on the face of it a pretty simple question, but I have to ask... so please indulgeIve been gettign by witha 17inch monitor for flight sim (secondary 15 inchers for fsnav, etc.)Ive been looking at a 21 inch monitor at our local computer storeBut I was wondering, is there that much difference between a21 and, say, a 19 inch, in terms of what you can really see in flight sim?I figure that if you go bigger, you dont really see more, just thatit seems bigger.LIke I said, it must seem like a previous obvious, no-brainer questionbut sometimes there are hidden issues in even the most lowly questionthat maybe most people dont think of.Thanks in advance.John W'Newbur…

I just experienced a strange situation with FS9.I want to do a flight around Madrid (SP). Due to heavy fog the tower admitted only IFR flights. So I redraw the flight plan within FS9 with the different VORs I want to fly over and specifying IFR. To my surprise the controllers did not bother about my flight plan and made me fly "directly" to the nearby target airport Torrejon. The GPS was showing the intended flight path over the different VORs. But the pilot desire and the controller decide.Did anybody else experienced this?Roger Potie

Hi, There was a thread about this on Usenet. Some people think that it is a great feature to have a way to 'write' messages whileflying, like Radio frequencies, Flight plans, controllerinstructions etc. so, I've set up a new service (using the FlightSimulator 2004 Kneeboard) If you want more details or if you wantto download the little utility go here:http://www.simradar.com/File/2371/SPN___Si...ot_Network.html

I just noted in today's uploaded scenery listing several files called France Thermals. Are thermals caused by terrain properties modeled? ITRW thermals and other air currents can occur due to wind over terrain surface slope, terrain type due to sun reflectivity, and other causes. With real world piloting of small GA aircraft traveling at 105 to 140 IAS, I noted the altitude changes due to reflectivity and heat storage properties of terrain such a lift produced over lake water on a sunny day. As a passenger on an airliner ascending or descending over a dense cloud layer (Minneapolis), I would often see in the cloud pattern the outline of the river below and cloud builds ove…

I really like the package except for one nagging problem that I can't solve. When I'm on the ground, I get really bad stutters/pauses. Frame rates show as 23-30, but it stutters 2-3 times per second. And only on the ground. In the air it's smooth. Makes no difference which airport/complexity/AI level/etc. Has anyone else seen this?

Hi allI'm posting this here giving you simmers who like bad and challenging weather the chance to fly into airports like Gatwick or Heathrow tommorrow in bad conditions.A storm is approaching from the west, isobars tightly packed therefore winds will be a strong. Forecast to be southerly at 70mph or greater. If the wind remains as a southerly it will be a crosswind at these airports. I don't know what the crosswind limits are on airliners, but something tells me not many a/c will be landing tommorrow. The full strength looks like it will be overhead at 1200GMT.Enjoy, and safe flying. Will

One of the features I miss from FS2002 is the lack of a notepad in the kneeboard to write quick radio frequencies. The fs9 kneeboard is HTML based, so no writing/posting is allowed... well, until today :) this new utility is actually a replacement for one of the kneeboard pages, it gives you a web based notepad, a weather service (very neat because it does not just give the METAR, but weather conditions explained in detail) and web based bookmarks for users to save links to other sites they wish to visit while flying (like sites with online charts for example) this bookmark utility stores them for you!!Here's the link to download it for those interested:You'll need your o…

I found a way to reduce the abrupt wind shear effect in FS2k4 that's causing so many problem including myself. All you have to do is go into FSUIPC (registered version) and change the, 'Smooth Wind Changes" option under the 'Winds' tab to 50 or above (look for the text stating 'FOR VERY SLOW CHANGES', the bottom box on the page). Solved my problem....

When my plane is on the ground and I use the slew option my plane would just launch foward (like stepping on the gas in a car with the parking brake on....release the break and the car launches foward) after I hit the "Y" key to get out of the slew mode. How do I stop this from happening?

Well, I decided to take some time off from bugs in this version of FS and was wondering about the next version. With all the folks on this forum from outside the US I was wondering what you'd like to see in the next version. Honestly I don't know too much about what aviation is like "over there" but here's a little list I came up with. Anyone care to add-on (with constructive comments if you don't mind)?(Oh, it would also be good to know what country you're from in your post!)* Airbus: Okay, this is low-hanging fruit but if so, which one(s)? If you could have only one, which one, and why?* ATC: Different accents for sure but what about the logic? There are lots of diffe…

Dear All,I have searched this forum and the tips forum and cannot find any information on using dual monitors with FS9, maybe I am not using the correct combination of wording or something ??Anyrate - I have just received a second monitor and Graphics card (Geforce MX400 AGP) from a friend, and was wondering what software etc. I would require in order to link this with FS9 and have say the FMS and radio stack showing on the 2nd monitor? and what I need to do in order to get this to work ?I also fly online frequently and it would be handy to have SB on a separate monitor too (If this is possible) ?using FS9 and PMDG 737Appreciate your comments !!Kind RegardsPHIL

Is there a quick fix to allow the com radio to increment in smaller numbers? I'm trying to tune an ATIS (135.98, I believe) but the radio tuning increments are too high. I can get 136 and 135.97 but not 135.98. Thx.billg

No graphics cards, no downloads, no bashing the freeware people, just good ol' flying questions.Hi all, hope you can answer some questions that have been bugging me since I got FS9 a couple of weeks ago. Some are just out of curiousity, others are a bit more problematic. All planes referred to are the MS default types. Here goes:1/ Why has the sim rate adjuster been removed from the cockpit?2/ Can I change the distance AI planes come into view (without mucking around with the innards of the game/computer programmes)?3/ I get approach vectors from ATC anywhere from 19 to 31nms from my destination. Why the variance?4/ Why has the LVL button gone from the 737, but not the 777?…

HiCould someone please tell me if this is even possible and if so how?:-) What I would like to do is, on the main monitor have the virtual cockpit view looking out the side of the aircraft AND on the second monitor the main panel and forward view (2D or Virtual, doesn't matter)for flying. So far I've managed to get main monitor set up the way I want it and the panel on the second monitor showing but with no outside view to see where I am going.I am trying to set up a tutorial / training session for search and rescue scanning procedures whereby the trainee could practice scanning techniques while I can still fly the plane using the second monitorHope this is possibleThanksV…
