I've been reading this forum for quite some time now and I have seen users of all types, ranging from novices to experts. Some of the stuff I read here is truly informative and the level of expertise of some people truly amazes me. All of this has made me curious about something. I was wondering how many of you guys are real life pilots? I was also wondering in particular about the guys who have never flown an aircraft in their life. In terms of FS9, how did you guys start off and then learn so much? How did you guys make transitions from GA to commercial aircraft like the 737 and 747? I'd really love to know the learning process or path that some of you took. What resour…

Hi All,I recently installed another version of FS9 on a new hard drive (slave) on my pc - I have been trying to follow different posts in the forums but I think I have got a little lost now...These are the steps that I follewed:Renamed FS9.exe and FS9.confg files to FS9old.exe and FS9old.configInstalled FS on Drive F (slave)When I boot up the oringinal FS on my C drive all is well. And the same goes for the new version on the F Drive but where does the new version save its .confg file? etc. (do they share the same somehow)? And is it possible to re-instal various add-ons to my new F drive without any problems? Please help...ThanksPHILBAW843

I have a preference to save my default M$FS9 aircraft with a Cold and Dark Cockpit. I have experienced that when I create a flight with an add-on panel/aircraft, the engines will not start using the normal ignition switches on the panel, unless I first start the engines with CTRL+E and then shut everything back off and save that particular flight. Everything is fine on a reload and the panel works correctly with engines igniting using the panel switches provided. So my question is: Is this a quirk in FS9 or is it a coding problem in the add-on panel? If it is the latter, does anyone know how to add some instructions to the aircraft.cfg or whatever to alleviate the problem…

What is the correct way to start engines on airliners like the 727, 737, 747..?Do you engage the starters and at 20% turn the fuel starters on? I think I rememeber seeing a pilot for a 747-400 start the fuel first and then the starters. Thanks,Bill

Hi all,So you can begin your "The High and the Mighty" flight properly, I've released a scenery package for Honolulu as it was in 1959 (before the opening of the new terminal in very late 1962). You will finish the flight at my 1959 SFO, of course (part of the California 1959/1962 scenery package). It uses the same scenery folders as the California 1959/1962 scenery, so the installation for those who have that installed will be very easy.I've also eliminated the skyscrapers in the area, and reduced the size of the city to backdate the area to 1959.http://www.calclassic.com/Temp/phnl.jpgThe "Aloha tower" lights up at night:http://www.calclassic.com/Images/phnl_night.jpgAva…

Hey everyone,I am using FS Real Time and I love it for keeping track of my real time here in NY, but if I fly from, let's say, Texas the time is adjusted for NY time and its not correct if I am flying out of Dallas and I was wondering is there a way to fix it or a setting that I have to set or another program that will automatically adjust for the real time zones in the US or even the world?thanksPaul

Hi all. Great to have a dedicated hideaway for Aerosim fans! Anyone tell the company yet?Has anyone found a source of flight plan data for the FMS other than the samples included with the gauges supplied? I am going to start building up my 1980's L-1011 routes for Cathay, but don't want to waste time on this if it has already been done!MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maamlogo2.jpg[/a]

I was thinkin' today..I have a 2nd HD in my computer that I'm not really using all that much (DV capture every once in a while). Is there any advantage to installing a separate copy of XP and FS9 on that drive or is this a waste of time? It would be nice to have an 'untouched by updates' copy running on my machine. Also, does XP detect two OSes and ask you which one you want to use? Thanks much,Mark

Robert Sanderson, designer of the award-winning Sea Hurricane, has almost finished work on his Stearman 75 450 hp, 1955 crop duster version. He has given me a view of it (and permission to leak this info!)... unsurprisingly, it's superb -- wonderful VC, great visual model and animation, sounds, dusting FX, and FDE (including sideslips and some spinning), etc. In my opinion, easily his best yet. No final release date, but could be a matter of days. Cheers,Grant

Hello everyone!I have just recently heard about FSBoarding and got intrigued - downloaded and istalled it. The version is 2.2.1a and FSUIPC is 3.2.0.2.Once I try to load FSBoarding in connection w/FS I get the annuouncement that FSBoarding would only work w/ registered versions of FSUIPC.Whereas it appears reasonable, it still seems quite odd to me, since all other and LARGER applications run with FSUIPC just fine. Furthermore, FSBoarding was originally designed for FS2002 and hasn't been updated since (or has it?).Do I just a) have to live with it :( get the full version of FSUIPC or c) change any settings I don't know about and get it running? Thanks for any help....CF

For all the folks jumping in and on CS 707, nothing like starting another thread, eh...?The HJG Boeing 707 series is very good indeed. The visual and flight models are excellent. I tweaked some parameters but basically, the cfg file is already really nifty. You can takeoff, fly, and land at flaps 30 or flaps 50 on published Boeing 707 numbers.I use the 707 panel by Chris Alevritis (ca707pnl.zip) and it works well; it's basic and unsophisticated, but full of atmosphere with "steam gauges" and has good basic functionality. It works well with all of my GoFlight hardware as it uses the default MS autopilot. I use the Dan Careri 737 sounds that he designed for FS2000 (!),…

Donny AKA ShalomarFly 2 ROCKS!!!I recently "discovered" the Extra 300. After demonstrating it to my brother, it's his favorite plane. The ground handling seems to be acting up sometimes. Were there any improvements put out by third parties, like the ones for the J3? I have tried searching he library and forums, but all I got were repaints and threads on TOTALLY different subjects. A few more questions:Locking the tail wheel doesn't seem to help, does it have one? (a lock)Is it just me or is it almost impossible to taxi? Even at low speed I initiate a turn and it just keeps spinning. Is the real thing steered with differential brakes? When I input rudder and both brakes, I …

Can anyone tell me if they have purchased Aerosim's Tristar add-on and let me know what British liveries they have included. I am specifically looking for a Caledonian or Peach Air.

The RMI on the Tristar panel gives NAV1 and NAV2 by default. I can find no way to switch it to show ADF readings (NDBs, in other words), even though the visual image shows ADF selection.Am I missing a switch, or is this just how it is? If so, there's no way to read out ADF bearings (which do function in the panel, the audio part works OK) and I may have to swap out this RMI. Sure, it's not relevant when navigating in NAV mode linked to the FMS/INS, but the option of RADIO navigation should be functional.MarkMark "Dark Moment" BeaumontVP Fleet, DC-3 AirwaysTeam Member, MAAM-SIM[a href=http://www.swiremariners.com/cathayhk.html" target="_blank]http://www.paxship.com/maam…

Ok so I've just created a simple flightplan ,using Routefinder, from KJFK to KORD. I get the following result.KJFK PELUE2 NEKDE DCT DRAPE J60 DJB OXI3 KORDI would like to understand exactly what I am seeing here in more detail. First of all why are certain things marked in BOLD? I understand that DCT means direct but what does PELUE2 mean? Any basic info would be greatly appreciated or if you can point me to a resource that will help me to understand the basics of flight planning. Thank you.
