I saw this on the news tonight. It's good to see some screeners on their toes. What I wonder is how come they were allowed to get that far on the taxiway.Brenthttp://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,56750,00.html

I am going to be enrolled in the San Joaquin Valley College: Aviation Division. I will be trained for my Aviation Mechanical Technicial Certification. Plane Mechanic, to keep it simple! It'll be about a year and a half long, about 4000 hours or total training time. When I graduate, a FAA Examiner will come to the school to test me, and if i pass, I will be a certified FAA AMT. AMT's get very well paying jobs, so I hear (maybe someone here can verify that?) so when I get a job working as an AMT, I'll use that money to put it towards my PPL, Instrument rating, and Multi-Engine rating. The flying school I plan to go to, Mazzei Flying Service ( http://www.flymfs.com/ ), offer…

Hello All,I was wondering how STAR's and landing runways are selected in real live. Are they selected by the pilot before take-off or are they appointed by ATC in-flight? If the pilot can select them how does he know which landing runway to choose (especialy on long flights when wind conditions can change)? Thanks,Huppel

Just out of curiosity when are flaps used at their various settings? I realize that this is pretty broad in regards to various aircraft but what is a general rule of thumb.ie. When do you use partial flaps, full flaps, takeoff setting and decending?I have a pretty good idea, and do use various settings, depending on the aircraft but I am just curious as to how far out in left field I might be.http://members.shaw.ca/dan_cyxc/sigcard.jpg

Hi simulator people!I just have to share this with you, this is so great. A week ago I bought AS2 airline simulator. I finally knocked the price down to 20 euros (20!), and to my wifes suprise I came home with yet another flight simulator program. I already have MSFS5, -98, -2000, 2002, ProPilot99, X-plane, and the best airliner addons for MSFS (PSS and Dreamfleet).Yes, AS2 has "year 1992 graphics" and it is programmed for MD-DOS. I knew it. I just thought that who cares, I paid only 20 euros for an airline simulator, no matter what. I love airliner simulations! Then I opened the box. After a moment I realised that I had bought a simulator PLUS:- a great manual including 1…

KTLA, my only direct link to LA through satellite (Dish Network), is not showing ANY of it.I called KTLA and was told that they're "understaffed because of the holiday."Yes, on a major holiday for the US, with terrorist warning high, the last thing you would want in your news department is any staff.Unbelievable. It doesn't matter if these events were organized terrorist attacks or not (and they probably aren't, at least the plane crash isn't). You'd think a superstaion would be staffed on, of all days, the fourth of July.Silly me. So I'll stay with CNN.

Hi all,I am trying to find information (mainly the history) on an aircraft called the Jetstream 3 (or Century Jetstream 3) manufactured by Century Aircraft (US) and Volpar. Its ICAO designator is JS3, so it must have existed somehow.Contrary to what one may think, it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the family of Jetstream corporate jets manufactured first by Handley Page, then Scottish Aviation, Jetstream and finally British Aerospace. These were (in chronological order) the Jetstream 1, Jetstream 200, Jetstream 31, Jetstream 41 (and some variants). Their ICAO designators are respectively JS1, JS20, JS31/JS32 and JS41. But... I cannot find anything called Jetstre…

To use FS2000 adventures in 2002, one is supposed to place them in the .../flights/fs2kadv folder and they are meant to show up in the list on the menu.I have tried several, including the (excellent) Michael Vone ones for 2000 but nothing appears in the list. Has anyone else found this?I have tried putting one in the "fs2kflts" folder, which seems to be for the default FS2000 flights and it appears and loads though cannot handle the flight plan. The message on the system specifically specifies the "fs2kadv" folder for the earlier files so what's wrong, I wonder? Thanks for any feedback

Today (July 4) a shooting has taken place at Los Angeles International. Reports say a man walked into the airport, shot a person, then opened fire again. Police at the airport then shot the man. They don't know if it has any terrorist significance or not yet.

:)Borders no longer matter. Missiles cross oceans. Terror...can be imported.Today marks a historic event in this country. WE...the collective WE are now suffering the slings and arrows the rest of this planet knows entirely too well. Shooting at LAX, obviously an act of "terror". {Edit} "First reports say there were others involved." Another incident, the crashing of a light A/C into an amusement park. {Edit} Reports now say pilot called "engine out.""We" asked for it. Our fascination with the topic of 4th of July terror, the "we" being our media. Polls, news 24 X 7. Even if you are not a terrorist in the classic sense of the word, if you want your 15 minutes, f…

CNN is reporting live on the shooting at LAX airport as I write. While the shooter has been killed (thankfully) by security at El Al checkin counter, LAX is shutdown. So, any who have flights out of or into LAX should most definately call the airport.2 Dead (including the shooter) and 2 wounded. Thankfully, it looks fully contained, but a sad event of course none the less.Elrond
