I have a question that maybe someone can answer? When a airline mothballs a fleet of aircraft and ends up storing them in the desert, how do other airlines around the world know that airline "x" has aircraft for sale? Where are the aircraft advertised "for sale" so the rest of the world can buy them? Is it on the Internet? If so, what site?Anyone know?

Could someone clear this up for me? From my understanding, the FAA limits pilots to 8 hours of flying time before they have to be relieved from duty. So, if a pilot is flying a long distance flight that required 9 hours (Say from ATL to LGW), the last hour of the flight, someone else much step in and land. I assume that there is a relief pilot onboard. Does this time limitation apply just for passenger flights or for both passenger and cargo flights? Or, am I mistaken about the time limitation issue? Thanks,RH

Well, we were held up 2 hours on the 26th about 4 PM eastern. There was so much air traffic that Miami ARTCC refused our plane to take off. We were just going to be passing through to CYWG from POP. Finally all of a sudden the packs turned off. The wife said that looks like a bad sign as though we were going to deplane. I knew then that we were going to head out.JimCYWG

Normally, we would not report this kind of news, but because of the resulting Tsunami that has innundated much of SE Asia, our concerns are for fellow flight simmers that may have been caught up in this disaster. With over 7,000 reported dead in Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, India, Sri Lanka, Thailand and elsewhere, our thoughts go out to all, and to our fellow flight simmers in those areas. Reporting also states that hundreds of European and other tourists were caught in the floods at many holiday areas, including Phuket and the Maldives. Total devestation has yet to be fully reported, along with the final count of those lost.If you are a simmer living in any of the areas h…

Hi there,First post here. Let me explain my situation gang. I'm Maltese (living in Malta) and have had a dream to become a pilot since the age of ten. Due to some personal issues I didn't have the cash to do my PPL, NR, Multi, frosen ATPL in the past. Now I have the cash I have run into another problem - AGE. I'm 31 (december 10th) and I have been told locally that I'm too old to become an airline pilot i.e. start training now. Can any realworld pilots out there shine a light on this? Do I just give up or is it worth a shot? Any replies would be of great help as I don't know what to do. It seems that some airlines would rather judge a person by their age rather than flyin…

Is it me, or is customer support quickly becoming a thing of the past?Latest case in point.I purchase Lago's Honolulu scenery because of my fondness of the area, and the fact that I lived there for over 6 years. In a word, it's brilliant. No complaints, until, that is, I asked for a little support.I purchased the scenery from SimMarket. Ok, fair enough. However, after I downloaded from SimMarket I noticed the version of the SimMarket download is 2.01.On Lago's website, their version was 2.10Well, thinking I am out of date, I look to upgrade to the latest. There's no patch from 2.01 to 2.10, so I ask on the forum about it.NO RESPONSE.Ok, then, lets ask in e-mail.After…

Given the world we live in today, I count my blessings every day knowing that I have hundreds, if not thousands, of friends in this community who share a common interest. Our community is truly an example of how the world should get along. Yes, we have our dust ups, and sometimes we do cross over the line, but for the most part, we have found common ground where all religions, genders, political views and philosophies can co-exist, and prosper. As the publisher and head muckty muck at AVSIM, I also daily am in wonder at the 40 or so volunteers that bring this system to you. From former Naval and Air Force officers, retired executives, newbie IT gurus, farmers, and many oth…

Hi all,Ever wonder what Community means? IMHO, it means people coming together to help one another in a common cause. If you download programs of any sort, you will no doubt have to obtain support for some of them from time to time. I know I do.Now what does that require?Well, normally it requires you to register for umpteen number of forums, sites, or even email support when a product does not have a forum.Count up how many forums you have registered for just to get a few questions answered. You should not have to do this, IMHO.I don't feel a person should be required to only ask questions at a certain place. And I certainly don't feel a person should be ridiculed for as…

We got a letter from the US Claims Service. It seems very legitimate... they have all of our info correct, and they are saying that we have some $700 that is unclaimed. Does anyone know if this is a scam or if it is an actual claims service?

Hi all, Couldn't think of where else to post this question. Does anyone know about how much it costs to paint an airliner, or entire fleet? It sounds expensive and with bankruptcies, union bargaining and downsizing going on (US Air, Continental, United, etc), I would think re-paints would be low on the priorty list. I have seen re-paints of United, Delta, Northwest. Is it just that aircraft need re-painting periodically (as maint.) and they put the color schemes on then or is it someone in sales and marketing with a "great idea"? Just curious.ThanksSteve

My very recent post concerning payware was locked, after only a day. After only 1 response. Did not look to be going "south" as the moderators are fond of saying. My name is Braun Tacon. The copious vendors out there know me well. I just did a check of my payware folder, and to date I have made 89 purchases from vendors such as RealAir, Flight1, FSD, Lyons, Wilco, and the list goes on and on. Do I support payware? Yes, and I vote with my wallet, voting often. My question is what are we becoming if we cannot openly and honestly discuss topics that are of interest, and freely offer opinions without fear of ridicule or censure? I clearly noted in my post it was only my …

Santa Claus, like all pilots, gets regular visits from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). It was shortly before Christmas when the FAA examiner arrived. In preparation, Santa had the elves wash the sled and bathe all the reindeer. Santa got his logbook out and made sure all his paperwork was in order. The examiner walked slowly around the sled. He checked the reindeer harnesses, the landing gear and Rudolph's nose. He painstakingly reviewed Santa's weight and balance calculations for the sled's enormous payload. Finally, they were ready for the checkride. Santa got in and fastened his seat belt and shoulder harness and checked the compass. Then the examiner hopped in…
