I fired up Steam -- no mention of an update. Tried playing FSW, just get a dialog reading "Preparing to launch Flight Sim World..." which then goes away and comes back over and over. It's been at least five minutes now, and no sign it's actually going to do anything.

Okay so I caved in and decided to re-purchase/reinstall. No shame in that, just practical considerations and I would rather be on the inside offering constructive feedback than outside making the occasional snarkey remark. As my trial and error last night took my total play time over two hours, that's perma sorted as well. Anyhow to the question at hand, has anyone managed to get the AP working on those aircraft that has it fitted. There seems to be a lack of instructions or clarity as to how the system works, one of the panels has the various functions set out alongside the GPS console but no master switch I can see. On one of the twins (forget which) there was a ma…

Hi, For years I have been using Google Earth to map my addon airports. There are a couple kmz files out there that contain most of the airports in FSX. When I buy a new airport, I select the airport and it appears on the map. Why do I do this? I think it is really helpful when deciding where to fly, because I determine where to fly by finding two airports that are x distance from each other that currently have interesting weather and I have addon scenery (see pic below) . The issue that I am having is I really want a better weather overlay. The standard GE one from NOAA used to have radar in the US, but I can only see clouds now for some reason. Also, it i…

I got a chance to see our procedures trainer in its load mode and the processors supporting it. Realize this is just the procedures trainer and not the actual Full Flight Simulator i.e. it is the lowest end of training device and designed for checklist procedures, runups, and avionics integration training. It flies, but you cannot log time in it. The procedures trainer is, of course, a rack mount server with multiple blades. The main server is the Xeon E5 2670 v3 x 4 for a total of 32 cores running at 3.2 ghz.64Gb of memory support the trainer. The Instructor's Operating System is a pair of Xeon E5 2620s with 11 cores available (not sure where the 12 core went.) Visu…

After a week and a bit of playing around with Flight Sim World, largely forced upon me by having been incapacitated and forced to recuperate at home, but what the hell eh? When life gives you lemons, make lemonade. So I figured I'm sort of familiar enough with it to do, not so much a review, more of a 'my impressions of it so far' post, so for anyone interested, here goes... First, a bit of clarification: As per the title, I actually didn't buy FSW, since it was a 'freebie' from having purchased Flight School (technically that means I sort of did pay for it, since Flight School has kind of morphed into becoming FSW, even though I can still of course play Flight Schoo…

How will users with fancy hardware, and / or applications that rely on FSUIPC do ? For instance, in order to be able to use my ELITE hardware with FSX / P3D I have been using FSUIPC ( just the non-registered version, although I own the registered FSUIPC since it's very commercial release and would support Pete as much as he has been supporting the flight simulation community... )

I am sure that I am not doing something right, but the pilot side HSI is frozen; it does not turn as the airplane turns. I'm fairly certain this isn't a bug as I saw it turning in the live stream last night. I can turn the OBS heading and the compass face moves as well as the autopilot heading bug but the gyro doesn't seem to be working. I also looked for documentation so I could read up on how to configure the HSI as well as all of the instrumentation on the panel and do not find any manual of any kind. That would be very helpful for each of the airplanes.

I did a bogus order in Simmarket (funds very tight for now, just for curiosity, never placed order), when I found this rather nasty surprise: (Highlighting is mine) I'm thankful to SimMarket for meeting a big part of my FS needs but, honestly, this looks like nickel & diming. I don't feel like giving my credit card details to an additional vendor. Looks like I'll be voting with my wallet next time I feel the itch for payware... EDIT: forgot to add, this fee wasn't there before, or at least it wasn't applied in October 2016 (my last order)...

I don't care for the new cloud lighting. These are screenshots from FSW with its first update and also some XP11 shots and a few real life shots taken by me. There are a great many real life shots and videos on the web that one can look at but I only have the rights to share these (and it should be noted that they are NOT overblown -- reality can be blinding and I think a realistic sim should also be capable of being blinding) anyway first its FSW shots and then XP11 and then my real life examples (from the small selection I have - sorry) first - FSW updated. the clouds in this shot are what I see with Fair weather on a flight from KIPT to KHMZ. its summer at…

hi, i´m searching a free OSM-based autogen scenery for Germany. Something like that: http://openvfr.freyt.de/magento/index.php/downloads/openvfr-autogen.html But it should be free because i want to use it with FSW and i`m not sure if it works.

Some thoughts...as I've previously mentioned in 2015, DTG's only competition in their desired marketplace is themselves, and only themselves. Most of you reading this are not in their target marketplace and would move to P3D, Xplane, DCS, or even (shrugs shoulders) Aerofly (if you dont already have one or more). All DTG has to do is stop selling FSX-SE for FSW to flourish. The business of software is quite a bit different from the hobby of FlightSim despite how important the current user community believes itself to be.

Well, I really need to share this experience with you, because it turned out to be a positive confirmation of how the default Steam Restore of a backuped game content works, and at the same time rises a question the answer to I really would like to learn ... 1) After the first install of FSW in my home PC, with a slow, and rather stressed this last two weeks, internet connection, an install of work stuff, and at the time of a day I should really be occupying with sleep, inadvertently erased one folder of DTG FSW that was bellow my "AppData" folder using a Python script I had created ( and no, I'm not using Python to automatize game uninstalling :-) )... I shut d…

Now before you reply saying it's only a motion simulator, I'd like to make the point that FSX, P3D pilots can fly with real motion after logging some hours on good aircraft addons (PMDG and the like). I am not saying they are professional, talented pilots, but they could take over as pilot if and emergency (knock on wood) were to happen midflight. Watch the video below. I'd also like to say that the person who landed the plane in the video has used the PMDG 737 and trained himself on it. He is not a first time FSX flyer. He knows what to do, and he only mentions that he needs to add more stick force, because hey, Saitek and real aircraft yokes aren't the same.

Today is the day! We are delighted to (finally) let you know that Flight Sim World™, will be released into Steam’s Early Access program in the coming weeks.Copy from the press release is as follows: Based on benchmark flight simulation technology, Flight Sim World will provide players with an unprecedented level of realism and detail. Its officially licensed GA aircraft will be the most authentic and detailed in-sim representations on the market, faithfully replicating their real world counterparts, with every gauge and switch fully operational. Not only do these aircraft look like the real thing, but they also interact with the environment in an accurate w…

I have a 2GB GPU, and FSW generally uses between 1.6 and 1.9GB. I'm almost certain than the game actually needs more VRAM, and is just moving some of that data onto my hard drive or RAM because my VRAM isn't enough. So, for those of you with 4GB+ GPUs, how much VRAM does FSW actually use?

Curiosity got the best of me, last evening, and while I scrolled through the Steam Announcements (i don't frequent Steam often), I saw FSW advertised (as well as other games of interest), so I bit the bullet and purchased the Early Access release of FSW. Some of you may ask why, and my answer is this: In order to truly understand everything the sim has to offer, you have to experience it for yourself, so for a mere $25, I took the plunge. After about an hour, everything downloaded and was ready. Before I started, I gave considerable thought into how I was going to approach this simulator, considering all of the talk lately, laden with reviews, arguments, strong op…

So with the imminent release of P3Dv4 and A2A having announced full support of their products into the new release on day 1, I want to know why we're not seeing similar announcements for FSW that 3PP devs are supporting FSW. If DTG thinks for one minute that I'm going to wait and see, they have another thing coming. I spent my $25 on the sim to show my support, but when the guy down the street is releasing his product and getting 3PP support from day one, that sends me a very strong message indeed. So let this be a warning shot over the bow of the FSW ship. I don't think I am alone in this because I think it's safe to say we will go where there is 3PP support is at...…

Just wanted to know if FSW has the same problem like FSX/P3D. When approaching mountains the mesh changes to higher LODs which results into suddenly transforming mountain shapes, a bit of a realism killer...at least when you are flying VFR.

Okay, I've had Steam for years and was surprised to note when I just checked that I have 82 games/sims on it in my library. Now, apparently these grant 'Trading Cards' whatever those are, of which I evidently have about 90, granted from various titles in my Steam library. Four of those are from Flight Sim World, which I think were granted because I've done some of the missions in the sim. These trading cards are apparently worth '22 Gems' each (whatever that means), the Gems can also be converted into 'Booster Packs' (again, no idea). So does anyone know what that all means?
