Is it the launch of P3Dv4 that's causing the slow down? Its SO slow for me here in the UK at the moment, that I get occasional time-outs! Maybe there's maintenance going on?

I tried to fill a flightplan, but when I first contacted the Ground frequency I didn't receive any flightplan instructions or acknowledgement, and was told no flight plan could be filled because the airport was under IMC requiring IFR. If I had completed the full Flight School, would an IFR flight plan be available, or is this ATC feature still not implemented ?

The planes in FSW don't have 2D panels, so why would anyone want a 2D view? I use it for scenery screenshots by putting the plane in slew mode, switching to 2D view and hiding the panel if one is present (Shift-W usually goes directly to the hidden panel view), then positioning the aircraft for the shot. I added the camera config below into the FSW Cameras.cfg file. Easy way to access the folder containing this file is to click on the Start menu, then type %APPDATA%\Dovetail Games\FSW and press Enter. Edit the Camera.cfg with Notepad or better yet Notepad++. The camera config disables access via view cycling (ie pressing the 'A' key), so you need to access the …

Having finally adjusted the settings so I can take off without spiraling into the terrain and the autopillock working so it follows the GPS track, decided it was time to check out some of the scenic wonders of the world. Where else to start but the Grand Canyon. Took off from Page with a flight plan along the Canyon landing at Kayenta. First off launching from Page evident the scenery still looks bleached and washed out. There should be vivid desert colours - reds, browns and yellows. Approaching and then tracking the canyon, I felt I'd gone back in time to 1997 - when we bought add on scenery based on glossy pictures on the box and instead got crudely painted triang…

With the passing of the years I occasionally have flashbacks to movies I watched in my youth (or books I read) but can't for the life of me remember what they were called. The three airline related ones are as follows: 1. The Infamous plane crash in the desert where all the flight crew are dead. The ghosts amuse themselves by playing baseball then towards the end of the movie one by one start to vanish as a recovery team finds and buries their remains, save for one who's body is away from the wreckage. I say infamous because this one comes up quite a bit. Other forums I've looked on like to suggest this is the 1970's TV movie Sole Survivor, starring William Shatner. …

Im trying to find ways to maintain interest in this sim. I just flew the Blender mission and although I landed and it logged my flight hours it gave me no credit for actually having done the mission. What did I do wrong? Did I fail because I didn't land exactly at the little green arrows at the threshold of 26L? this seems similar to when you land but you exit the runway 'too fast' and the system doesn't log your flight hours...apparently because it thinks you didn't land I guess.

I want to simulate giving sightseeing tours around high mountains. I want to fly around FL220. What would a real pilot/company do? would you: 1. fly a pressurized plane or 2. fly a plane that would have better views but then install an oxygen system and let pax use nose nacelles/tube? Would this be comfortable for the passengers? I'm thinking more of #1, yes? or do they do both? Thanks.

I got FSW the first day, as I was a Flight School purchaser. I tried it right away, and, I have to admit, I was very underwhelmed. Tried it again after the update, and was a little more impressed.. Now I find that each time I run it, I like it a little bit more. There is something about the way the aircraft feel that is different from FSX or P3D, but I can't really put my finger on it. If they keep updating and adding features without messing up that feel, I will definitely keep using it. Also, I'm hoping for some tubeliners pretty soon! Russ

Not exactly scientific, but interesting all the same. Here's the default FSW Piper Cub on a quick circuit at LFPG with fair weather, followed by the default FSX-SE Piper Cub on a quick circuit at LFPG also with default fair weather. So it's a reasonably close comparison since both sims have been tweaked settings-wise to get about 30 fps in the VC and about 50 fps on external views in flight with things dropping to about 15-20 fps at busy payware airports in FSX-SE. I put the FPS counter up on screen for both sims although you should be aware that FRAPs tends to impact the frame rate a bit and make things a bit jerky in both sims when it streams a full screen recordin…

Have you noticed, critics always have the loudest voices, but the smallest brains! Oh, most of them are great with the pen, and always use the heading constructive criticism before spuing their vitriolic comments and all but destroying the artist or filmmaker in the process. I'm pretty sure God looks at these poor excuses for human beings and eventually consigns them to the failed bin (along with politicians).Which brings me neatly to main thrust of this comment, which is....I give up! I have been a member of this community for a few years now, and in to simulations since the advent of the Sinclair Spectrum, I have seen simulators go from a small dot on a blue or gre…

Here's something that could set FSW apart from other sims: automated checklists and a virtual copilot. MS Flight did something with checklists... that was about the only thing I liked about it What I mean is: a virtual copilot calls out the checklist items, then the player can either perform the required actions himself or simply hit Enter to simulate that the copilot handles the switches. In more complex aircraft, there could be an option to let the copilot handle the gear, flaps and radios. Come to think of it, I haven't found a way to view checklists in FSW. The file is present in the folder and there is an entry in the aircraft.cfg, but there doesn't appear …

I am one week in to my month long trip in europe. My british airways non stop from phoenix to london last week was nice. Long but nice. In europe i have not flown. I took the dover ferry to get to france. I am on an escorted tour which ends on june 23rd, then back to phoenix on british airways 747-400. This marks the 40th anniversary of my first trip to europe which i took with a high school group. Still remember the dc8-63 i flew on back then, quite a different aircraft from the 747. Going back to jfk we had to stop for fuel in shannon ireland and gander newfoundland. Anyway it's time to check into my hotel in madrid. The only thing i miss from home? Simming, …

wooohooo From the Flight School Facebook Page "Following the announcement of Flight Sim World earlier this week, we would like to take a quick moment to thank the virtual pilots who have stuck with us over the course of the past year. As a way of showing our appreciation for your support, we will be gifting a copy of Flight Sim World to everyone who invested in Flight School. We can't wait to welcome you aboard!"

Hi flightsimmers, I am struggling at the moment how to proceed astutely with the change in flight simulation. Especially when I see X-Plane vs. P3D v4. The most confusing is, it's not clear, how and in which platform to invest. I still use FSX and have spend a punch of Money into it. I also want to buy the FSL A320, and till the release of P3D v4 I can buy the FSX Version and update to P3D v4 for free; so I would have both version. Do you think it's worth buying it now? The Airbus for X-Plane look really good, it XP has slope runways and rain effects. Anyway I don't know about the flight dynamics.

I bought it because: It was only 25 bucks. Now how many times have you bought a new aircraft for P3D or FSX or Xplane and flew it only a few times and now it just sits in your hangar? How much did that hangar queen cost you,,more than 25 bucks I would imagine. I look at FSW as a great cheap way to get several very nice new planes plus a new look and feel flight sim. So 25 bucks for FSW or 50 bucks for my next hangar queen? Do I like it? I am not sure at this point. I like the graphics and the quality of the stock planes and I really like the weather effects. I look at it like it is my rainy day simulator just as Xplane11 is my night simulator and P3D is m…

I am playing around 1 or 2 missions per day during the last few days since I started to give missions a try. They're great to play. This particular one, among the USA territory missions, turns out as an excellent test for even the seasoned simmer pilot. Set your Realism settings to "Hard" and fly the mission the best you can. It's under the "Easy" classification, but I failed it twice and really felt bad, but a smile showed on my face when I though to myself... Duh! That's a BASIC ONE José !!!!! You should have done it right from the beginning....
