Hello all, Every day I check the sites of Fselite, Airdailyx, FlightdeckX and of course, AVSIM front page, for any news of the flight sim world. I find these an invaluable insight into new releases etc. Lately though, I find very few updates on the AirdailyX site to the extent that I believe there is some justification to a name change to Air(almost weekly)X news. Now, I have to state that this is tongue in cheek stuff, but does anybody know what is going on there, and is there a reason for the inactivity? It used to be such a good site for news on FSX and P3D releases and recently, actually acknowledged the existence of XPlane 11 with some news of their new re…

We just a never too young thread here. Here's a never too old one. At the risk of sounding like bragging dad I just got this from my youngest daughter... Not going to lie...a little nervous...I mean who the hell signs up for their first 100 miler at 54 Bridget had been a runner since high school. She used to run with me back then. A few years ago she reached her goal of having run 25 marathons by her 50th birthday. Since then she's added ultras (50 mile runs) to her repertoire. This morning she was notified she has been selected to run in the Leadville 100 next summer. A 100 mile run at elevations up to 13,000ft in the Colorado Rockies. She's no …

Hi, For the last couple of years I have only used Navigraph for both FMS data, and Charts, however, ever since Navigraph changed to Jeppensen Charts (again), I've found myself struggling with the iPad app (as in I don't find it as convenient as Before, and generally I've always used LIDO charts). Hence, I have lately been thinking of moving to Navdatapro to get Charts (so that I can use LIDO), but still use Navigraph for FMS data. So, I was wondering if it is possible to do it this way? Also, considering the providers should use the same AIRAC at all times, the Charts (from Navdatapro) should still match the FMS data (from Navigraph) even though I get it from diff…

To experienced tubeliner drivers this probably won't sound like much, but tonight I had my first proper FMC-programmed flight and completed it successfully. More or less. I've always done GA/bush flying until now with too many 3rd party airliners left gathering dust in the hangar. Enough is enough, I thought, I can't keep putting this off. I picked the Quality Wings 757 tutorial flight as the inaugural hop. A good choice as it turned out, because while it isn't near the likes of PMDG in terms of depth it provided more than enough complexity to keep me busy through the flight, although busier than I would have been if I'd done things properly. The tutorial flight…

Does anyone know how to report images posted on fsfiles.org? I've used the general contact form to leave a message, but I'm not sure how often that is accessed or paid attention to. There are two images which need removing ASAP. Strangely enough they appear to have been posted by a "guest" I don't want to go into any detail here on AVSIM, suffice to say they're not aircraft porn...

In honor of it snowing a few inches in Savannah today (something it only does about once a couple decades), I took a short flight from Savannah (KSAV) to Hilton Head (KXHD) tonight in weather set to heavy snow (only snow setting available right now) in the Cub. Tower would not give me clearance to taxi to runway as it was IFR only so I had to ignore them. Same thing when landing at KXHD, no clearance to land as it was IFR only. I did get a route to parking though after landing. Aside from those things, it was a cool flight and took a little getting used to in heavy snow.

Here's a general question for Avsim membership. Jim and I were having a conversation about the forums and I was telling him that using my iPhone 6S Plus on ios10 that I am unable to get the phone to switch the forums from the mobile version to the desktop site. Typically this can be accomplished in Safari by using the Send To/Request Desktop Site on the phone and it will reload a website from mobile to desktop version, however I can't get it to work on the Avsim forums. I also tried using the Chrome browsers and it also will not work, however it works on other sites. So my question for other forum members that use iPhones to browse the forums, are you able …

Yesterday I got my copy of "Flying" and as always turned to the back to find Les Abends article. For those who may not know Les is a 777-300 Captain for AAL out of KJFK. This month he tells of being on the KJFK-EGLL run. An old friend was flying not far behind out of KORD in a 787. They had dinner in London and Les ribbed his buddy about his "plastic jet". Next day they were both in Ops. preparing for the return flights and compared their dispatch packages. Because of mid Atlantic turbulence Les was routed on northern tracks. Because of the wing, the 77-300 had to stay in the low 30s. The 787 was capable of FL420 and was able to top the turbulence. Long story short, the …

Well up here near CYWG it is -22C or -8F. The contrails from a 747 going from KORD to PANC stretched all the way from as far as I could see in the south east to all the way I could see in the north west. Looks like they hadn't moved at all. Neat to see. Jim

I am enjoying Xplane11 and P3DV4 so much I have a challenge getting out of my home, LOL! I am spending several hours a day between the two sims, both very fluid and stable. I have a P3DV4 video out of Spanish Fork (I flew an LSA with a friend out of there back in 2006), Utah and an Xplane11 video out of Glendale, Arizona, which I posted in the videos forum. I was not making videos, I found that commercial programs did not work well when uploading the videos to youtube, there was no sound. But then when I saw a recent video I asked what software was being used, and I found out that the GEForce Experience program included with my system offered free recording of video (…

  17. I wonder why the Commander was fired as well? http://www.foxnews.com/travel/2018/01/09/jet-airways-fires-pilots-who-fought-on-flight-left-cockpit-unattended.html What a mess...... Jet Airways has ultimately decided to terminate the employment of two employees who got into a heated in-flight fight on New Year's Day, during which the male co-pilot allegedly slapped his female commander and later left the cockpit completely unattended. "Consequent to the review of the events … Jet Airways has terminated services of both the cockpit crew with immediate effect," said the airline in a statement obtained by the AFP. Jet Airways had initially grouned the two p…

Hi guys, I was just looking for some feedback on both as to which one is better, if at all. I currently have AS16 and Cloud Art and I understand that REX Sky Force is a weather engine also and I'm trying to find out if it would justify paying for Sky Force if I have AS16 already. Any help appreciated. Thanks, Greg

Hi guys Am considering buying FSW but have a couple of questions: 1. I notice at the Dovetail store it is on special for $8.69, however it is $24.99 on Steam. Is there a catch? 2. Does FSW have an inbuilt map so you can navigate where you are going (I know there is a payware one) 3. I have FS and P3D. At $8.69, is it worth it. I am most interested in the scenery eye candy. 4. If I buy from the Dovetail store, will I get the updates? Many thanks John

  20. I was wondering if at large airports with parallel runways if the planned arrival gate is taken into consideration when assigning landing runway. Consider 27L might be the best assignment for an airliner inbound from the south but his arrival gate might be on the other side of the airport causing a very long taxi. Giving him an approach to 27R would necessitate vectoring through the approach or arrival paths of 27L being unpractical on a busy day even though his gate may be just off 27R. I was wondering if his destination on the airport proper is even considered by ATC assigning STARS and approaches or would they even know or care apart from pilot request which may be un…

Hey, I just stumbled upon this new TV Show on Fox - LA to Vegas. It is a spoof airline show with all sorts of interesting characters. Finally a show like it is based on the "Airplane" movies. Loving the Dice hanging in the 737 Cockpit. Yes, the show has all the stripper/pilot/crew jokes. Maybe I should take the LA to Vegas flight in real vs East coast to Vegas (Return flight to Vegas to East coast is so tiring flight, everyone is beat especially taking the 5-6am flight depature). Hoping that show gets picked for multiple seasons, usually all the shows I like on FOX tends to get cancelled after season 1.

The skies in FSW have been missing airliner traffic. So, until there is a compatible add-on, I've been trying to get some AI add-ons to function. Just Flight's TrafficX works with some simple modifications. The models are FSX compatible so they work in FSW, however the schedules are not realistic - but at least the skies are alive! If you're interested in the method, I've made a short YouTube tutorial. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w_HjL_8iPbs&t=2s Hope someone finds this useful, it makes my flying more enjoyable!
