Hi, Just above the landing gear lever in the 737NG there's a small placard with the maximum operating speed for flaps, where it says: FLAPS LIMIT (IAS) 1 - 250kts 2 - 250kts etc... Having said that, one would think that is the case, however, during many of my approches, I have noticed that this applies for flaps 1-5, however, thereafter, the amber band on top of the speed tape, tends to go below 210kts (which is the stated flaps 10 speed on the placard) and as far as I'm aware, the amber band displays what the overspeed area will move to once you select the next stage of flaps. In other words, that makes me think that the max flap speed for (in this case) flaps …

I got FSX-SE in mid/late 2015. Never used any other sim. So I am wondering here... Do I play this game too much or I'm just a true aviation fan?

So, I was playing War Thunder in a Simulator battle when I saw the unique looking flight stick of the BF-109. An idea popped in my head for a replica flight stick from different famous warbirds such as the P-40, P-51, F4U, BF-109, etc. My thought process is in order to make it cheap, yet strong, it would be made out of fiberglass and Bondo. The flight stick would simply be a shell that replaces a current flight stick. For example, take the Logitech Extreme 3D Pro. The process would be to take apart the original flight stick and replace it with a replica counterpart. This is my ultimate question, would this be a something for flight simmers such as yourselves? There …

Hey, I have only read materials on fractional ownership with Netjets; and I am wondering on what happens after 5 years of fractional ownership period ends? (Apparently Netjets offers to buy your share? what does this mean, they buy the plane back?) Does the customer again has to buy ownership in a new plane and drop cash. What if the owner wants to keep his/her share for like 10 years or so? I bet it would suck to buy an airplane share again in few years when it might just be cheaper to own and maintain a aircraft say for like 10 years or so. Just wondering on how this process works? None the material on the internet answers these questions of mine. …

I noticed something slightly odd yesterday when I was testing various pattern trajectories in the PMDG 737 NGX at EGPD Aberdeen. I informed ATC that I would be returning to the airport (remaining in the pattern), and started pushback. A Lufthansa A321 was also getting ready to depart, and the AI pilot was asked to wait for me. However, ATC reported that I was on the runway, not the taxiway. I was quite surprised, as I have never heard ATC make that mistake before. I wondered if it was a glitch, so I decided to start P3D again, and load the same scenario. The same incorrect announcement was made. Since I normally ask ATC for clearance to depart straight out (or in a partic…

While in the shower this morning for some reason this very old Marine joke popped into my head. I first heard about a century ago when I was a young Marine stationed at Camp Pendleton waiting to go to Korea. An English professor and an old Marine sergeant were on an early television game show. As fate would have it the professor and the Marine had tie scores at the end of the game. The emcee announced that after the commercial to break the tie each contestant had to come up with a four line poem and the last work had to be Timbuktu. The audience would decide the winner with their applause. After the commercial break the two came back and the English prof…

I have been flying the PMDG 737 NGX around the UK and Ireland over the past few months, using a database of waypoints and navaids to input basic flightplans into the FMC. However, it seems that there are a LOT more navaids available than I can find on UK waypoint/navaid maps, and the NATS AIS database etc. These other waypoints would be extremely useful to me for "fine tuning" my flightplans (I do not worry about whether my plans match real world routes), so I would like to know how I can find a map that shows ALL of them. Do I need a Navigraph (or other) subscription for this, or is this information available to download for free? If so, where can I find it? As an e…

Definitely not aviation or flight sim related, but thought I'd get some opinions from the Avsim community. Looking for a reasonably priced outdoor wireless video camera system (single camera) that streams to my local home network only. Most of the systems I've reviewed (incl., Nest, Ring) require an internet connection and consume up/down bandwidth for normal operation. Want a local system only. Our puppy likes to dig in our new backyard sod, so I'd like to monitor her when she's out to try and stop the behavior. This allows me to stay seated at my PC during flights, and not have to go lurk outside and physically spy on her. Thanks for your time!

UPS confirmed not long ago that they are getting additional 14 747-8F giving the queen another few years of life. Now I wonder if global cargo transport growth and sending the 8F into a backlog since they only build a few per year will make other potential customers interested in securing few more frames in near future. I don't know how much can B ramp up production but do you guys think we might see some more airlines ordering them? My fav cargo bird so this news made me happy :)

Which Antivirus software are you using? I used to use payware but had to start cutting costs, so eventually went over to freeware. Trouble with these is they tend to take over the PC. What's the current consensus here on freeware products?

Where do you get the best wallpapers for the Desktop? I mostly use Google picture search, but I ran out of tags to search for... for example: Aviation, Boeing, Airbus, Aircraft and so on. Google is showing always the same things. I am just curious where other people get awesome pictures for the desktop.

To celebrate 100 years of the RAF, the RAF museum are holding 8 special events across the year at both sites of the RAF museum where there will be 100 open cockpits for you sit in and examine. In fact all year there are special events to mark the centenary. At Hendon you can sit in a mk16 spit I believe. Anyway I booked all the events which wasn't cheap but I feel is a once in a lifetime experience when you see the list! List for the first two events this month: British Aircraft Corporation TSR 2 (close view only) SEPECAT Jaguar ACT Demonstrator Fairey FD2 Saunders-Roe SR53 Hawker-Siddeley Kestrel FGA.1 Avro Lincoln B2 (limited access) …

Just thought I'd ask: How many of you simmers are into flying drones? My Daughters (all grown) know of my love for aviation, and they got me a DGI Phantom 4 last October for my Birthday / Retirement. It is totally awesome, and you have to patiently download firmware and frequent updates, but the results are truly rewarding in every way. Equipped with a 4K camera, it provides videos that are spectacular....even in your own neighborhood. I've seen my neighborhood from a totally different perspective, and it's beyond what I thought it looked like. The Phantom 4 has obstacle avoidance as well, and that is a superb feature. Technology being what it is, the drone has …

...but you might find it challenging anyway. From time to time I like to play the default card games in Windows. Especially Freecell. A couple years ago I read where every Freecell game is winnable so I started playing almost on a daily basis and today I won my 200th game without a loss. This afternoon was a tough one. I backed up and started over a half dozen times. That's happened before several times. But perseverance pays off. Most of them are pretty easy once you get the hang of it. But sometimes a difficult one pops up. There have some that I saved and came back to the next day. But I haven't been stumped yet. Noel
