When I wrote about the movie The Body Snatchers and the mudbaths in Calistoga I am familiar with them and with the area since my parents moved out of their home in Mill Valley and moved to a mobile home park in Calistoga right next to the gliderport. When I was stationed at Hill Field in Utah I used to drive to California to visit my brother and parents. In fact I once flew my kids out there in a Cherokee 180. That's when they still lived in Mill Valley and I landed at Gnoss Field in Novato where my brother picked me up. I'll have to tell you about that flight sometime. It was my second longest cross country. I landed in Reno to refuel. I addition to my first m…

The only trick is if we do something like tie a toy on a long string and throw it over the couch, the cat will jump up on top the couch and fish for it. But I don't think it does so to please us, only to please itself. I notice this guy gives a stern command and knows how to train.

  10. Can any airport owner in the USA call their field an International Airport? Whitfield International Airport (has no ICAO code) is 4,600 feet long, asphalt that changes to dirt as you roll along its length. It averages 5 flights a day. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_Canyon_Bar_10_Airport The Airport Hotel:

After decades of simming but no IRL pilot experience I’m amazed this question never occurred to me before. Considering the people and their training, the hardware and software to run everything etc., I’m guessing every pilot has to pay for their ATC? Is it charged per flight plan / distance and if so how much? How much does a standard flight following request cost?!

  13. In today's news: " A man opened an emergency exit of a United Airlines jet, walked onto a wing as the plane taxied at Chicago’s O’Hare International Airport and jumped onto the tarmac early Thursday", police said. Police said when the man jumped onto the tarmac, he attempted to guide the aircraft to the gate. There was just as much mental illness 40 years ago as today. But there weren't video games. You never heard this kind of thing happening back then. I don't think passenger was 'crazy', just felt entitled to do this own thing. That's my guess. https://apnews.com/article/arrests-chicago-california-escondido-3d9fe9c1d005269603b0689dc8e47bf6

These sort of things always make me a bit pensive, as I think about the cost of an adrenaline rush, and the need for ever more striking spectacles to hold the attention of advertisers and paying audiences... Beyond that, I'm curious why everyone seems to be treating this as an aviation related incident, as the two airplanes racing the truck don't seem to to have been involved in any way, and seem to have incurred no damage. So.... Why is the FAA getting involved?

  18. I've noticed this before. One of our four cats will be in the living room and come up to my chair and beg for a Temptations treat. I'll give him or her one and soon the other three cats appear from other rooms or even from outside and gather by the chair wanting their treat. I think I've noticed this on nature shows where cats are hunting as a team and the chase cat seems to be able to tell the other cat or cats where to head off the one in the herd she's going to cut off. 19. With a few remarkable exceptions, some that I seldom recall because it goes such a LOOOOONG time since I last tried it ( Flight Unlimited "1" ) and in some way SilentWings, in other aspects Condorsoaring, I am yet to feel a glider being well represented among the various sims I have used. This applies to both the performance ( although some can get close to their RW polars within a short range of speeds ), but very particularly regarding the "feel" when flying a glider, with it's inherent flight dynamics peculiarities like the augmented adverse yaw, stuff like overbanking and the need for use of cross-controls to coordinate steeper turns, the effects of flaps ( for t…

  22. I found this today. Whether you're a believer or sceptic of psychic phenomena I think its worth watching. The presentation is about an hour and then there are some questions at the end. The 'presentiment' section was fascinating once I understood the study. Apparently some of the studies have been repeated by sceptics and some results confirmed. I'm sure at least one person here will have many negative things to say about the presenter. I hope not though. I recall that we've discussed things like premonitions on these boards before and a number of us members have had personal experiences that aren't easily explained. I tend to keep quiet about experiences where I a…

Not really, but I don't understand such large fire stations like this ( Asobo / EIDW). Dublin, But every day in even a much smaller medium size city you hear fire trucks daily. But how often do the trucks roll out from a large airport station? Seems to me that's a lot of station bays and trucks. A lot of money to run the system. There's how many fires or paramedic emergencies at a large airport in a decade? I'm making a wild ill informed guess of about as many as the city itself has in a day.
