Every reviewer has a right to express an opinion, and I am sure Gavin Hendrie has his own valid reasons for not being too impressed with the Simudesigns scenery for Lyon, however, when he refers to the add-on module requiring FSUIPC, I take exception to use of the phrase "This module requires a free version of Pete Dowson

It seems that my RSS readers are not picking up an Avsim RSS feed. I poked around on the home page and I don't see any rss logos. So far, it looks like AVSIM is not offering this service. These readers are all the rage these days . . . and real handy too. For instance, Simflight has this service. I'm using it now and it's a great way to 'quick browse' though their headlines. These flightsims are really right out there on the leading edge of computer technology. It'd be great to have the site also on the leading the edge of web technology. RSS readers have me completely spoiled. It's funny how after only a couple of months, I can't imagine how I managed without it! If you …

Just a note of thanks to those of you at AVSIM regarding your interest in Hop Races by placing a poll regarding the fact on your site, and quickly at that I might add! No sooner did I notify you of the news of monthly Hop Races for payware prizes over at my site, www.farmboyzimsflightsims.com on the first of February, when faster than a speeding Learjet, the poll was posted the following day! Again thanks for the interest, and more information on the Races can be found at,http://www.farmboyzimsflightsims.com/FEB07_Race.htmlBy the way, the races are FREE and FUN!!!Thanks again!Farmboyzimwww.farmboyzimsflightsims.com

I made a donation to AVSIM in early November and was checking to see if you received it when I noticed that your acknowledgements for November and December donations contains exactly the same names. Strange...is it possible tht something is awry with your system? Thought you would like to know.As I am a long time and frequent user of AVSIM I feel that it is my responsibility to support your great site efforts to serve the flightsim community, so I am not looking for your thanks but merely want to be sure that you received the donations that I make. Thanks and Happy New YearRodger C. Hi,I would like to make a suggestion. On numerous occasions I have wanted or did download a file that, in its header or description states it requires another file. Yet, the other file is not found in the AVSIM file library. Is it not logical that a rule for posting or uploading files to AVSIM which require an associated file would require the uploading individual to also send that required file? The straw the broke the camels back and caused this e-mail was the DTW textures file by Mike Magner which require a FSNOVA file. I see after typing this that the readme directs you to FSNOVA. Very frustrating generally I pass by these type downloads for this very reason of t…

Brian,Since you have been elevated to the level of a thread locker, from SimConnect Forum Moderator, a word of wisdom if I may.If you feel a thread or post is inappropriate, just state that the post is locked. Your opinion is not needed. Doing so reveals your bias and removes your neutrality status.S.D.

I am looking for a flight sim like IL-2, but with better graphics. My son Gabe (10 yrs) and I are exploring flight and enjoying it. Il-2 FB and PF is quite fun but we are looking for anything prettier as far as land graphics. I have a 4 node LAN with very powerful computers that will run most anything so I'm not concerned about horsepower for the graphics. I know that FS2004 has some add-ons and MS Combat Flight Simulator had Firepower and others. I would appreciate some information on what's out there and available and for what flight sim.Chuck

I realize that this type of thing is not a requirement of Avsim, but would certainly be a helpful gauge of customer satisfaction with the increasing amount of payware vendors. Many of you probably know of the service provided by http://www.resellerratings.com/. It's a listing of vendors and reviews by customers based on their experience with the vendors. Just recently I read a post concerning a FS payware developer that includes a number of similarities to what I have experienced with this same vendor. And I am sure many others. Is there a way we could perhaps create a repository of vendor reviews, scoring based on the experience of the customer, which would allow , the …

Recently I see question marks in text on AVSim, where I expect apostrophes or quotation marks. Also characters with something special (like an acute accent or an umlaut) are replaced with question marks.Just an observation and a friendly request to fix it when possible.Jozef K. http://homepages.onsnet.nu/~jkusters/signature.jpg

  12. Three or four users posted letters to the Editors today, especially in response to Jim Goldman's message, and rather than approve them for posting, I apparently deleted them. My apologies. A fat finger issue, and I hope you understand. Please repost your Letters, and I promise not to delete them again.

Despite the "dramatic" news tht the long anticipated CYYC package has been released, having the news announcement on AVSIM's front page label this package as FREEWARE in caps is both erroneous and ouright misleading. The package is Donationware masquerading as a demo. Nowhere in avsim's paragraph announcing this "news" is it indicated that this is not truly a functional, non-visually abused by demo signage package.I installed the package based on the assumption it was, as described by AVSIM, freeware. Now I have to remove it because I feel mislead - both by yourselves and by the producers. (I may get it later...but that's a different story.)I realize you guys need to make …

This is an excellent website and forum. Why would you allow a flight adventure of flying dope with an airplane to be put in the file choice selections?...Especially with younger people using flight simulators?

Just enjoying the Bear's third instalment. At one point he writes: "After Normandy, German field commanders were still complaining about the Spitfires attacking the Luftwaffe over Europe, but in reality there were no Spitfires used over Europe (Spitfires lacked the range to operate as nothing more than a local defensive aircraft)." I don't want to take anything away from the Hurricane think this is right (assuming Normandy means D-Day). I am just reading Johnnie Johnson's autobiography and happen to be on the bit where his Spitfire wing was one of the first into France after Normandy - and indeed had been ranging widely across the Channel for ages. True they could not…

Dear editorsI truly enjoy your high quality website with good and trustworthy Information and reviewing.Your review on the new Legacy 600 prompted me to buy that product at Wilco's website via download. I was very annoyed coming to end with a 45 min. download time caused by a bandwidth of 20 KB/sec. That is far under standard, especially for costly products. Normal commercial bandwidth rates as you know are between 125 KB/sec. and 2000 KB/sec. Bandwidth is cheap now and there is no reason for a commercial company to not meet these standards.I suggest you warn readers in your reviews on non standard bandwith rates (lower then 125 KB/sec.) forcing companies that take good m…

  21. I read with intrest how you responded to the edit I am posting below. What is interesting is that no matter how much you put into AVSIM, people still can't seem to accept that you might have to charge more then Walmart to sell the product. It is sad to see that people want you to give all but will only pay for minimum. I'am sorry but the customers mentioned below have NOT understandably questioned you.We have further verified that a major retail chain in the USA is offering the deluxe edition of FS-X to our customers at a price far below even the wholesale distribution price that we pay for the product. Several of our customers have understandably questioned how we can…

I'm absolutely enjoying the screenshot tribute to FS9, but found an error in the comments on the second part (Golden Age). In it, Mr. Cartwright states "The only pilot to have flown a GeeBee more than 15 hours of total flight time, and survive, was the equally famous pilot, Jimmy Doolittle (in all Jimmy Doolittle achieved 27 hours total flying time in his red & white No. 7 GeeBee, with which he won the 1932 Thompson Trophy)." This is true regarding the time of the air races, however, a pilot has flown over more hours in the GeeBee and even toured the airshow circuits in the late 90's and early 2000's doing aerobatics, yes aerobatics, in one. His name is Delmar Benja…
