Do you know when you have a period in this hobby, where everything goes wrong?  Not that it seems to go wrong - everything does actually go wrong.

So, I have just bought the TFDi MD-11, and I am absolutely unable to install it, using the "TFDI MD-11 Install Manager".

When I run the installer, my whole PC gets absolutely frozen - nothing works and no other tasks can be undertaken.  Then, after 15 minutes of it just hanging, I get this:-

 

What on Earth????    I have a completely standard Win 11 PC, with a strong internet connection... I just don't understand why an installer would fail like this.   To make it worse, it takes 15 minutes each attempt and I can't even abort or do anything..... my whole PC gets absolutely frazzled by this installer.

Yes, I'm submitting another  ticket... (all I've done this week is submit tickets).

Just wondering if anyone else has seen this?

 

 

I had a similar issue with the installer and it was the path too long issue. It never indicates that and didn't show up in the TFDI log. I edited the registry to allow long paths and it resolved the issue I had.

Not sure if you use Discord but TFDI or someone who had the same issue can respond very quickly.

That's what it was for me too.  

They should be making that much clearer - it's not exactly usual that you need to edit your registry to get an FS addon installed.    I found it buried in their FAQs somewhere on the website.

Anyway, I have a much more pressing issue - when you put the side window shade on, the EFB disappears.   How on Earth do you get it back?!?!?   (It's been 15 minutes of searching and clicking in random areas to try to find a clickspot!).   Thought it may be something intuitive.

Click on the USB port located on the aft end of the side panel.

As long as the shade is still out you can't bring it back. What would it attach to after all? So stow the shade and then click on the USB Display port jack to get the EFB back.

That's why I keep my community folder outside of default path and store my community on separate SSD.

Much like Microsoft and Asobo, TFDi have to try to cover all levels of skill and willingness to 
investigate if things do not immediately work as expected.
They also have to follow default locations, for those who don't know any different.

My last question tonight on the MD-11 (I promise!)..... I notice it's been installed with no liveries, apart from TFDI house.   Are there any provided liveries?

If all your doing is submitting multiple support tickets and PC gets absolutely frazzled it might be time to do a complete reinstall of windows 11 and start afresh. You would probably be up and running again quicker than multipule support tickets get answerd and probably spend hours with multiple discussion with support over days.

You may need to 'shorten' the File name for those or you will probably get the 'file name too long' message. The way I did it was to unzip the file then drill down 1 level[the 1st level  file name is repeated] Copy the 2nd level file name to your C:\user\etc Community24 folder.

Another thing to consider when installing any software from a NAS (or network share) is that security settings can prevent the installer from working correctly.  Simple solution is to copy the installer to a local folder on the PC (not a restricted folder) i.e. C:\Temp 

I agree with your frustration, software side of technology is increasingly more difficult to manage (especially firmware updates on electronic devices … USB controllers, Dashcam, cameras, lenses, etc. etc. 

But a positive spin, the MD-11 is well worth it:

Thanks, but it was just the long file path name issue.

All sorted now.  No issues with the MD-11.   She's a beauty.
