MSFS 2024 is the best if you like to fly "low and slow"

Featured Replies

A good discussion from the Flight Simulation Association on the improvements in MSFS 2024. The panel seems to agree that if you like to fly "low and slow" such as bush flying or helicopter flying, MSFS 2024 is a huge improvement because of the huge advancement in terrain graphics when you are at/near ground level:

Here is a good example of bush flying in MSFS 2024:

MSFS 2024 is just amazing when it comes to bush flying.  In general, the world outside of cities looks amazing, and if you fly "low and slow" outside cities, MSFS 2024 is the flight sim that you want to use.  Now all they need to do by MSFS 2028 is to find a way to make all the cities look good, because the quality of photogrammetry can vary from city to city (some cities have good quality photogrammetry like Berlin, while other cities do not have good quality photogrammetry).

And I'm speaking as possibly one of 2024's biggest supporters for low'n'slow.

Ryzen 9 7900X, Corsair H150 AIO cooler, 64 Gb DDR5, Asus X670E Hero m/b, 3090ti, 13Tb NVMe, 8Tb SSD, 16Tb HD, 55" Philips 4k HDR monitor, EVGA 1600w ps, all in Corsair 7000D airflow case. Sims in use - 2020, 2024, XP-12 and -11, FSX/SE, P3Dv4.5 and v5.4. DCS and AFS2 installed but rarely used

Agree completely. This is going to be another waste of bandwidth between the usual protagonists...

So when the Flight Simulation Association can discuss this exact topic, but we can't discuss it, what does this make us?

This forum becomes all that much worse if we have to censor certain topics about MSFS, and legitimate topics too.  In the case of this topic, it refers directly to the conversation the Flight Simulation Association panel had and the opening post of this thread starts with the Flight Simulation Association panel video.

Are you saying that even the Flight Simulation Association panel should have censored themselves and not brought up this topic?

Feel free to discuss what some of the panelists talked about in the video timestamp. Some of the panelists are content creators and live streamers like Blu Games and Howard Forder.  If you bothered to watch the video from the timestamp cited, the whole title of this thread is based off of what Howard Forder said, "low and slow."

A flight simulation forum is a place where flight simulation enthusiasts can discuss flight simulation. When you are enthusiastic about something, you generally want to talk about it. So why do some people find it so surprising when threads like this one appear? I have started a few threads myself over the years, and sometimes I am baffled why there is not more of a response, or a show of enthusiasm. A recent case in point would be the UK Flightsim Show thread that I started in Hangar Chat. Frankly, I would have expected a lot more UK flight simmers to have contributed to that thread, and to have shown their support (and, yes.....enthusiasm) for it! This thread is no different. Abrams_tank is quite clearly enthusiastic about flight simulation, and he wants to talk about various aspects of his favourite flight simulator. There is nothing wrong with that. In fact, there is a lot right with it.

One of the BIG reasons that I enjoyed visiting the UK Flightsim Show is because I got the opportunity to engage with other like minded individuals about flight simulation face to face. That is something that I effectively never get to do at any other time. That being the case, the next best thing is to do it on this forum. It is not the same as discussing it directly, but it is better than nothing!

Maybe we could all learn a lesson from Abrams_tank's enthusiasm?

The problem is you always say MSFS 2024 is the best and compare ir it with other Sims, which calls the usual suspects to the thread and start useless and endless arguments. Can't you just discuss this Sim without saying it is the best? Looks like you do it on purpose just to troll.

And I'm one who thinks this is the best sim, but honestly this is getting old.

It's 100% the titles. It seems once a week there's a "2024 is the best at [insert subject here]" thread.

If the title just read "2024 Bush /low flying discussion thread" then NOBODY would roll their eyes. Stating something is the best (again and again) is just gonna haul people in to give the opposite opinion. Or worse start ANOTHER thread with the opposite title.

If this isn't plain enough if you walk down the street and the local church has a sign outside saying "let's talk about our faith today" then if it's your faith you might drop in for a coffee and chat if it's not you'll walk on by.

If however the sign says "our religion is the BEST folks!! " then you're just asking people to come in and start (at best) an argument.

We really need a review /press /YouTube sub forum for each sim unless antagonism is part of the grand plan.

Actually, I am usually very specific with my words.  I did not say MSFS 2024 is the "best" when it comes to say, airliner add-ons. At the moment, there are a lot of popular airliner add-ons (PMDG, iFly, etc) that are not available for MSFS 2024 as they have not been ported over yet. Nor is MSFS 2024 the best when it comes to say, having content pre-downloaded to your computer, as there is no function to pre-download default planes and marketplace add-ons at the moment.

But yes, I do think when it comes to "low and slow," MSFS 2024 is the best for that.

Actually that's BECAUSE you put it in the correct forum. I went to the Farnborough show last year for example (put the effort in to get a media pass). Put the effort in and had a great day sat in the Airbus hospitality view balcony with all my photo gear (my profile pic is from that show).

I don't check the hanger chat every day as its mostly not aviation chat. I'll check your thread out later!

Absolutely agree! If we could have an MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 forum, that would be ideal, but the mods already said they won't do it.

Short of splitting the forums into MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020, posting positive threads about MSFS 2024 is normal.  Posting negative threads about MSFS 2024 should also be normal, if it's warranted (ie. the terrible launch of MSFS 2024).

It's weird that we cannot even post something positive about MSFS 2024 here, when this is the forum to post threads about MSFS 2024.

This is the correct forum for MSFS 2024.  Until the mods decide on separate MSFS 2024 and MSFS 2020 forums, this is the correct forum for MSFS 2024, the thread I posted is relevant about MSFS 2024, and yes, it is a positive thread about MSFS 2024.
