Far Too Many Aircraft But a Solution for FS2028

Featured Replies

This Sim Includes Far Too Many Aircraft

For starters, this sim costs about 3 times the Maxiumum I would usually pay for any software.  I have preordered Premium Deluxe and I have no regrets about this (because it's flight sim!), and it includes 160 hand crafted airports. However it also includes 95 aircraft.  This is Far too many!  Now I Do Expect these aircraft to be a good standard with quality avionics thanks to Dev partners and WT etc. However there are still 95 of them.  Far too many!

Solution for FS2028

I think for FS2028, there should be a "custom deluxe" package also. What that means is that after install, you start the sim for the first time and enter the marketplace with a set number of points to spend on aircraft and airports.  For example, say all airports are worth 1 point each and aircraft are either 2 or 4 points depending on complexity.  And you start with 300 points total.
So I may choose 10 complex aircraft, 10 regular  aircraft  which comes to 60 points. Then I would have 240 airports to choose.
Someone else may choose 30 complex aircraft, 50 regular aircraft which comes to 220 points.  Then they can pick up to 80 airports.

This way simmers can customize the package to their own liking.

Not a bad idea.  I think though, in 2024, we can choose which aircraft to download and place in the hangar.

You won't have 95 aircraft and several hundred liveries sitting on your hard drive. They will be made available as and when you choose which one you want. As much as I trimmed the fat on MSFS2020 as much as possible as I hated having aircraft (and particularly liveries) I would never use, I feel less bothered about the next iteration if they are all just there in the cloud until I pick one. As long as I still have access to all the files on my payware, I don't care so much about the default.

Who'd be creating the additional 140 airports?

And Asobo can hire at least one person dealing with the zillion of people asking to have their points resetted because they "bought" the "wrong airport/aircraft". Good luck with such an approach 😉

in 2024 you can buy the higher edition aircraft separately.

Jorg didn't say if you could also do the same with airports.

How is this even problem? Have you tried racing simulators with upwards of 500+ cars? As long as the planes are good which appears to be the case with so many 1st party partners assisting. For me, I'll end up flying planes I likely would not have considered in the marketplace.

Won't the planes be available separately anyway for purchase?

Wouldn't it be simpler then to skip the point system, just sell the base package and have people buy the extra's they want in the marketplace, with money?

I've achieved the same with MS2020.  Easily.  Just spent some time  in Content Manager whittling down the number of models installed as well as the all of those two sets of liveries.  I also have several world updates on the same "side rail" so to speak.

I've been thinking about this and after browsing through my aircraft list, yeah, the bloat is getting to be a thing.

I think if 2024 has any sort of robust swap/install config feature for aircraft that's relatively easy to use, that this will be resolved. Like the idea of custom bundles but MS is weighting certain aircraft at a higher $ value than others based on what they cost to develop no doubt (Jetson One isn't going to be the same cost as the A330 I'm sure), so determining pricing could be a nightmare, only to save maybe sub-$10.

Holy, 2024 is not even out and some poeple speaking/thinking of MSFS2028 and you don't even know if it will appear at all - what a world and people on it 😅🤣

cheers 😉

Microsoft created a thin client with faster load times, smaller install footprint, but you are saying it is bloat? The key is being able to optionally install the planes we desire or choosing to stream it.

I just didn't understand what you mean by bloat when the sim has been trimmed down to 30-50GB vs 150GB for MSFS2020.

It's UI bloat, I thought that was relatively clear.

The UI to clear the bloat is also... bloaty... it's not a very friendly interface to pluck content out of the sim right now (i.e. if you want to remove 1 airport from a WU, have to find the WU, unfold it, and then you have all unsorted addons in the manager now)

They just need to refresh the UI to make an improvement in that area and it'll be fine. Custom a la carte pricing model isn't the plan and would be so complicated that it would be a huge commercial turnoff. People don't buy things they don't understand, and if a sale is too complex, they pass on it. GTM strategy, pricing, and marketing is my full-time job - the pricing model is appropriately simple for mass market appeal. Overcomplicating it turns off the casual purchaser that might've been upsold to mid-tier, but if they have to fill out a form or select from a list of 50+ airplanes what they want before buying, they're never actually going to get the game out of their cart.

It's mainly a psychological thing.
