FlightSim Community Survey 2026: The Results Are In!
The survey results are out, and I was very curious to see how the results for the top 2 sims (MSFS, Xplane) compared to last year. There were 42,000 responses. It looks like things are stable for the most part. The major change being that MSFS 2024 usage is now double that of last year's usage. https://navigraph.com/blog/survey-2026 primary sim usage vs last year: Xplane - 13.9% to 13.6% MSFS - 76.9% to 77.3%

Linux Mint (Cinnamon Edition)
I couldn't find my floppy disk; I must have misplaced it. But booting from my hard drive took 14.5 seconds. Why are you on an insider build of windows unless you love being a beta tester. Insider builds are prerelease bleeding-edge versions intended for testing/feedback. I personally never run an insider build on my primary computer. I'm assuming you are reporting your issues at least.

Are you trying to say I may receive ads based on places I've visited while using the map service😄 I wonder how they figured out when I arrived at home and at work without any additional data. (oh, tracking my location patterns). And I was worried about my anonymized GPU/CPU model being leaked via telemetry😁.

Linux Mint (Cinnamon Edition)
I'm not surprise to see users jumping back to windows after testing Linux. Windows is the best platform for gamers seeking compatibility and simplicity. I'm looking forward to the dedicated game mode coming later this year (Windows 11 only). Windows 11 has become my favorite OS since Windows XP. Fast boot times and I've never had a PC crash (been using since day 1 release). Stability beats windows 10 for me. My second favorite OS is Linux (Ubuntu). My windows terminal defaults to Ubuntu 24.04 LTS. Anticipating Ubuntu 26 but Linux cannot meet my needs for a primary OS. One shortcoming of Linux is that games that require kernel level-anti cheat systems are not supported. Try running a game like Destiny 2 on Linux and enjoy having your account banned by the developer. Besides that, I have too many peripherals/hardware with no Linux driver support. It's great for my DEV work though.

Will DLSS5 Take XP12 to Visual Realism Never Before Possible
You are wrong. It is much more sophisticated than a "shader you run on your iPhone when making thumbnails". It was mentioned in the hands-on videos posted above by Baber20 that it uses motion vectors. It uses both pixel color and motion vector. Without motion vector, the lighting in the image produced would not be consistent from frame to frame, resulting in flickering and other issues. In quote below, NVIDIA also makes this clear. The previews look amazing to me. I think the lighting may look amazing in-flight simulation also. If NVIDIA can use frame gen to give us double/triple frames and now with DLSS 5 can produce more natural/realistic lighting, I see no issue. IMO, all the top games will have this in short order. Most talking it down will be on AMD or will be anti-AI on graphics. Some users online are zooming to the Nth degree trying to find issues that will be unnoticeable in Realtime.

Do you have photogrammetry enabled or disabled in MSFS 2024?
I have it enabled! It's an important feature of the sim for me.

X-Crafts dev interview...
The level of the ridiculous comments is mind boggling. I'm telling myself people can't possibly believe the nonsense that they are spreading. Let's not turn this thread into slander with all the disinformation. I agree with charliearon.

X-Crafts dev interview...
I think you are getting the wrong impression from reading the forums. Linux is still only 3% maybe 4% of the PC market from the latest figures. It is hardly worth the investment for many companies producing commercial software. As a result, it relies heavily on open-source software. While hardware support has improved a lot since I first used it 25+ years ago, many users will find that a lot of hardware still will not work on Linux. Even amongst the 3-4% share, a lot of users will still dual boot to windows. I don't see it approaching 10% any time soon. It's still a good OS for users that understand what they are getting into though.

X-Plane 12.4 vs. MSFS 2024 SU4
Hahahaha. This gave me good laugh

X-Plane 12.4 vs. MSFS 2024 SU4
I restrict the stunt flying with the 450 and 750 helis to the simulators (RealFlight RC and Aerofly RC). Several years back in Brooklyn (NYC), a guy took his own head off with one of these when he lost control.

X-Plane 12.4 vs. MSFS 2024 SU4
I hope you know that all software has expiration dates. It could be due to server shutdown, hardware changes or even OS updates. But essentially once the developer ends support and moves on to the next version, you can consider it expired. Just like expired food, you can continue to use it. However, your life will become more difficult over time at which point you'll want to move on. You won't find many people flying MSFS 2002 or xplane 8 regardless of how much money they invested in them. Technology moves on. In the digital era, you don't own anything. What you are paying for is a license to use the software. Can you sell your copy or give it to a friend? If your answer is no, then you don't own it. Check out the End User License Agreement (EULA), you can't. Especially now where the license is tied to your email or an account and you have to connect to authentication servers. It's not based on having the Disc you own in your drive anymore. This is why stores that sell used copies of games are going out of business. By the way, if you don't follow the EULA, your right to use a game can be revoked. When I buy games that connect to online services, I know there is a limited lifespan. If I can get 10 years out of it, I'm really happy. By that time, I'll want the newest version with the updated tech anyway. I still do like games that can be played completely off though.

One of the most Study Level ever addons..(all platforms)
I do not like these types of posts: No information about the subject in the title. and also, no information about the subject in the post itself. But if you want to know what my post is about, click my link to visit another site where maybe you'll get more info. But... But... if you want to know where the link is going, you'll have to hover over it. Reminds me of Marketing where you have to call or give your information to learn the price of a product End result... mini rant and promptly exiting the post without clicking.

Roadmap update
One of my favorite light business jets and it's better than a lot of payware. Background: The manufacturer reached out to Microsoft and requested for it to be included in the default lineup. I'd assume to get users as well as potential customers familiar with it. They did a partnership with FlightFX. From the interview I saw, Cirrus' CEO was happy with the final product.

Interesting....Boeing using MSFS as training platform
When they say PMDG's "simulation technology", I'm assuming this includes the aircraft systems simulation. This would mean a feedback loop exists between PMDG and Boeing, which would ultimately result in improved consumer products from PMDG. Maybe the question of what plans Microsoft has for the commercial space should be posed to Jorg on the next dev stream.

Scenery update - what are your (realistic) expectations?
Could not be further from the truth

Interesting....Boeing using MSFS as training platform
The cloud technology is already in place. MSFS on Ipad is possible via Xbox Cloud. With my game pass subscription, I was able to launch it in the safari browsers. I paired my Xbox controller via Bluetooth to my iPad, and I was able to fly around.

Interesting....Boeing using MSFS as training platform
Jorg did say they were receiving a lot of requests from flight schools to use MSFS as part of their training curriculum. He said they MAY go down that path eventually, so I was expecting a commercial license eventually. I wasn't expecting a professional version, and it would be very interesting if one now exists.

MSFS or X-Plane for better flight physics?
I'm offended Prepar3d was not mentioned. P3D - "Am I invisible to you?"

What I like about XP12
As far as I know, Asobo takes the forces on the fuselage into consideration. I recall seeing it demonstrated on one of the DEV streams where the CFD was being discussed. There are fuselage parameters that can be configured via flight_model.cfg. On the xplane side, I read this post from Austin a while back. https://developer.x-plane.com/2018/05/better-fuselages-through-science/

Ini A340 update 1.01 when?
Where? Isn't this plane only available via the marketplace? How can the update be out before the marketplace, if you can only get the update from the marketplace?

How is this possible on a home PC?
I saw that you posted this earlier and thought your statement was wrong initially. I went back and rewatched that section of the dev stream and you are right. He basically said trying to spread over too many cores is overall more expensive and uses more resources. Even though it initially resulted in faster frames, in the end it is more expensive on the system. My understanding of what he said: In 2024 they made everything multithreaded spread across multiple cores (CFD, weather, surface simulation, etc.). It was multithreaded but the SIM still had to wait for the other cores to finish before it could move on to finish the frame. With the latest sim update 4, they moved some simulations back onto a single core but not the main thread. SU4 made things asynchronous, so the main thread isn't blocked waiting for the work on the other cores to be completed. This resulted in better performance. Basically, a reminder that multi-threading/multi-cores is a not miracle solution. Simply putting more things on more cores could result in overall less performance. Sometimes less cores equal better.

Images speak louder than a thousand words and in response to the culling comment. I personally see no issue with your post.
