April 30, 20224 yr Will the 12 GB VRAM limit not be an issue in MSFS? I'm still using P3D v5 with a 11GB 1080ti and with high settings can hit a CTD caused by lack of VRAM. Won't a 3090 be a better bet for future development and complexity coming into MSFS? A doubling of VRAM to 24Gb won’t be demanded by any flight sim for the foreseeable future. It would require a resolution in excess of 8K and quite frankly I don’t see that as remotely likely. Not saying we need 24 but there is nothing in the middle. If I upgrade I want to do it to make sure I'm as CTD bullet proof as possible 🙂 Shom MSFS2024 running on Win 11, 4K screen, Z790 AORUS ELITE AX-W, i9-14900K, MSI 3080Ti, Corsair 2x32GB 6000 MHz, 1+2TB M.2 NVMEs
April 30, 20224 yr I was using 14gb today with my 3090. And I frequently see 10-11 gb used up. At 4k, 100 render scale, addon airport in a storm with PsXSeecon. Edited April 30, 20224 yr by Ianrivaldosmith

April 30, 20224 yr The crazy thing is majority of people don't have anything over 8GB VRAM so Asobo better find a way to optimize the sim better to keep it 10GB or lower. / CPU: Intel i7-9700K @4.9 / RAM: 32GB G.Skill 3200 / GPU: RTX 4080 16GB / Freight Pilot
April 30, 20224 yr For the past few months I have on and off considered upgrading to a 3080ti. Currently have a i9 9900K and a 1080ti. Was easy to get basic 3080ti cards in UK but a lot more difficult to get ones with a good boost clock speed. Used the bottle neck calculator and when selecting MSFS and 4K resolution it says the 1080ti is a good balance, cpu limited on a 3080ti by about 11% I normally rotate my upgrades and this time its the expense of the GPU which I last replaced late 2017 and the cpu and motherboard about 2 or 3 years ago. Would be tempted to wait on a 4xxx series but given my electricity supplier has just increased their rates by a massive 33% on top of increases a few months ago buying hardware that will suck the life out of the power is just not for happening. Would be tempted to spend a grand on a new cpu and mb but feel the next generation will probably be due soon and the 12900 etc feels somewhat 'old'. I do try and go up 3 or 4 generations when upgrading. I've found a great balance on settings (everything ultra, 2K resolution at 150% upscale) and it seems to be doing awesome. I've got vsync on with my gsync monitor and I hold a steady smooth 40fps. Better than what my 1080ti was doing. Just wish I had 12GB version to future proof better but I'm lucky to get the price I got on the 3080. Finally a used one below MSRP! May 1, 20224 yr Author I also bit the bullet and ordered after I saw the improvement with the 3080ti,could not afford it in these times but the geek in me was activated lol Asus maximus hero z690 64 gigs ddr 5 ram I7 12700k Yes expensive but just tired of waiting for the latest and the greatest, I did consider the i9 but it's run a lot hotter and consumes a great deal more power for a small performance boost that can be closed with an over clock on the 12700k Edited May 1, 20224 yr by Jetman67 Wayne such Asus Hero Z690, Gigabyte Aorus Master 5080, I914900K, Kraken 360 AIO CPU Cooled, 96 GIGS Corsair DDR5, 32 Inch 4K by 3

May 1, 20224 yr I said it once and here again: only cause windows shows that VRAM is „used“ doesn’t mean the game needs it. It’s allocated memory which is different from used memory. If you know Java - it’s quite simple. The application allocates memory. Every now and then runs the garbage collector and frees up the memory. if you have 24 instead of 12 gb - the garbage collector says: not today! And the crappy P3D engine is not the standard anyways.
