What is relevant is the fact that your GPU usage is way below 90%, indicating the clear cut CPU limit. Proof you already did yourselves with the render scale test. I would always put the settings as such that you have around 90-100% GPU load, then you avoid those nasty CPU lag spikes at best. There is also NO drawback with near 100% GPU load in contrast to what many people believe. It is not like CPU or other hardware, where 100% load results in a stutterfest, running the GPU at 100% might only be an "issue" when temps are critical or you want to reduce power consumption. But for this, external tools to limit FPS and/or reducing PT, voltage etc. is the way to go. Reducing settings to avoid high GPU load is simply wasting the ressources you have... Yeah, makes sense. I thought about getting a faster CPU, but I am not totally convinced a 12900K would make much sense to me, as I am now focusing on "performance per watt" instead of just raw power. Might get 5-10fps more on some occasions, but the absurd price and wattage difference is not worth it imho. Thanks for the feedback everyone! But the results for some are not amazing. Around 30 fps EGLL 4k for the examples cited, it makes nobody dream. Balanced settings is also the way to go. MSFS in ultra and 4k will not bring much more difference visually than my photo if we made a useless comparison. I'm already in Ultra / High. (1440P) And in my case Vsync 30 fps compared to fps unlocked it's day and night. My best find.

I am aware why it is done, I’m telling you, it is not the solution for everyone. Again, 30fps in 2022? Absurd. Sure you can limit to 30fps and eliminate stuttering because the cpu has less strain on it. But I dare anyone to look out the side windows at 30fps below 3000ft, and tell me it’s smooth? It’s not. It’s Juddery. Looking straight ahead, sure. But in the days of trackIR etc… who just sits and looks straight Ahead? I don’t. I personally lock at 40fps with a 120hz screen, vsync 20. That extra 10fps makes the world of difference. And even then I long for 60 fps, because that is the ultimate goal. For fluidity. Edited May 8, 20224 yr by Ianrivaldosmith
May 8, 20224 yr I too got used to 30FPS over the decades of simming with the old sims, but honestly, locked FPS at 30 within MSFS simply does not look good with my config. My guess for my config, the reason is simple: it is due to the change from nVIDIA to AMD. Somehow with my 6900XT, frametimes are waaaay better from 40FPS upwards compared to my former 1080ti, where 30FPS were perfectly fine... Maybe it is placebo, but I so far did not find the ideal settings for my AMD card, while I had it for the old nVIDIA card. Bummer that no guides for AMD cards are available... You will be pleased (I suppose, I don't know what your current card is), I am currently parked at FlyTampa YSSY, with ORBX Sydney, and am hovering around 45 fps with AIG traffic. With all that said however I am only in the Cessna, not the PMDG 737 that I will be in on Tuesday Australian time. My only real concern has been keeping an eye on GPU temps, at the moment they're in the low 60 degrees celsius. EDIT: The MSI RTX 3080TI Ventus 3X 12G OC has no RGB, in case that was a factor. I currently have a 1080TI, I did run into a little snag, the new card is about 1cm too long. I have a big Coolermaster case originally from 2012 (I guess GPU's were not that big back then lol) there is a column of HDD caddie's which limits the room I have for a new GPU (Can you hear me banging my head against my desk!!!) My case doesn't have a glass panel and sits under my desk so a plain card is ok by me. Anyway the seller will keep hold of the card until I figure out if I can somehow create some extra space or buy a new case. He will give me first refusal if he gets another offer. Fantastic and good for you, I’m happy for you. However it’s not a solution for everybody, as I mentioned. There is one other person in the thread that doesn’t like locked 30 and I am sure there are probably lots more too. There is a very big ‘pull the ladder up’ mentality here in avsim sometimes. “it’s fine for me”, “‘Mines fine” etc etc good for you.
